TRADINGSTANDARDS: Epic Fail

First of all, let me establish one thing. I appreciate the work that all scene groups do. Even the groups that are less experienced than others; even those that get every second release nuked. If a group does their best to adhere to scene rules and keeps putting out releases, then to me they deserve respect, whether they get nuked or not. Its when a group knowingly breaks a major scene rule and still puts out the release that a line has to be drawn. Of course many groups these days are suspected of doing this, but some just don’t cover their tracks too well.

Its the case of TRADINGSTANDARDS vs. PLUBE. Plube? Is that a scene group? No. Its a one time p2p release “group” made up of one person. This person also happens to be the Admin of Plube.com and one of my moderators on the RLSLOG Forums. About two days ago, he made a DVDRip of a film called Mutant Chronicles, which had been anticipated by some people on our forums. Proof to this can be found HERE. The source was a DVDR from a torrent tracker (Mutant Chronicles 2008 Pal DVDRo-BcF). Then today, TRADINGSTANDARD happened.

They pred “their” release of the exact same film earlier this morning (Central European Time). First reaction was naturally some suspicion, but nothing more. Then their rls got nuked for DUPE of plubes release, which was pretty funny. But then a closer look at the TRADINGSTANDARDS rls gave the greatest laugh of all:

[click on image for full size in new tab]

Obviously, TRADINGSTANDARDS didn’t even bother to cover the most simple of tracks.

I’m sure a lot of you will say, “who cares, we’re all stealing anyways”, but those who say that don’t truly have an idea of the effort and risk many scene groups go through to put out releases (even though they’re not meant for you). Groups like TRADINGSTANDARDS make a mockery of that effort.

For people who say they dont give a fack and they just want to download these. Well groups do this because of the fame and acknowledgement, if people start taking the credit for things they didnt release then groups will stop releasing and then who will give you your precious stolen movies?

its true, the whole ’scene’ thing is ridiculous, you people are so precious about the whole thing. good grief. if you rlslog boys were that ’scene’ you wouldnt have this site - you’d be on irc or something, not dealing out TORRENTS and RAPIDSHARE LINKS… jesus christ…

I think people are missing something here. Rlslog aren’t the one’s saying that Scene releases are intended for the Scene only, most Scene groups say that. Most Scene groups say bad stuff about p2p and whatnot. Rlslog isn’t stating opinion, they aren’t being high and mighty saying “Scene releases are intended for Scene members only.” They aren’t saying you shouldn’t be able to get the releases. They are just saying that the majority of ’sceners’ would prefer that no one non-scene have it, or at least that is the traditional scene opinion.

It looks like the vast majority of posts, really think this is over-the-top!

    And I have to agree.

Stealing is stealing.. But i know how pissy sceners and coders get when their stuff is taken.

This should of been behind close doors, and not have been posted to the public like this!

Great for plube.com, as it will now get 1000’s of more hits, and even for TRADINGSTANDARDS!!!

    Any publicity is good publicity!

But, it should not be discussed or be fighting about it here!

If you had any decency, you wouldn’t dare to post about scene rules, ReeGeed. Your very website is a disgrace to the scene, like every popular release lister/linker. The scene is meant to be underground, its leeching has become normal, well..
Nothing against your website, but please, don’t claim you’re anything related to the scene. You’re not.

I don’t understand why Reeg is getting so much hate for this post. Rlslog posts scene info… This particular article is the epitome of scene info. *shrugs*

Granted, the scene is secretive… I would think most people know that, but it’s also understood that people are curious and sites like this and people within the scene itself feed that curiosity. While that is commonplace, then I think such posts should be embraced. If for nothing but general knowledge about the scene should be appreciated. I for one love knowing things like this.

How can you steal from something that is already stolen or illegal anyway? Its like RLSLOG taking something from Scene Releases minutes or hours after they posted and taking the credit or vice versa, Its like tech news being copied word for word from the originating website. No one ever gives credit nowadays from where they get there torrents or info from this site included so by going overboard on the tradingstandards v Plube scenario its like the pot calling the kettle black.

As someone who’s been involved with pirated software since before some of you were born, I have to say that this whole “scene” thing is a load of ego stroking bullsh*t. It’s only purpose is to try to make some folks feel important. Either you’re into making software available or you’re not.

It’s great to warn others about poor products, bad cracks and rips, etc. but no one cares who stole what from someone else. Either it’s a good release or it isn’t. There isn’t a person using this site that wouldn’t grab a great release if they wanted it, simply because it didn’t adhere to the “scene” code of conduct…

@159 - You’ve obviously been a leeching piece of sh!t since before I was born too. You’ve clearly never spent 6+ hours analyzing and reversing a custom piracy protection so some leeching POS, like yourself, could use it for free. Credit clearly needs to be given to someone with that kind of dedication. Don’t get pissed because you’re too stupid to understand the skills needed to accomplish something like that.

Btw, P2P uploaders DO give credit to scene groups. You don’t see ThePirateBay etc removing the DiAMOND name from their releases. So the scene should show them the same respect, and ban all these P2P/Usenet thieving douche bags.

As a member in one of the oldest dvdr groups around, i’ve seen tons of this behavior. Whenever we release a dvdr of an odd movie, someone release a dvdrip within a few days. We even say it’s ok in our nfo IF they name us as their source or even make a greet to us. I think
thats happend once or twice in 2-300 times, but hey, it’s ok.

About this scene vs p2p crap. 99,9% of the stuff released in the scene is our own source but there are always ppl stealing those few p2p things made by some random guy. Those who do gets banned most of the time. It’s mostly cam/ts/tc groups like Tradingstandard.

The whole “Scene leaked” stuff is just bs. Most groups wants their stuff to get to as many ppl as possible. I know i dont want to run cce all night then upload and then fxp to a load of sites and have my gadmin to pre a movie JUST for a few other group members and their curries. If someone up a movie to a tracker, fine. More ppl will get to see if. I do understand why most sceners dont use torrents since it’s soo much easier to get nicked by the cops, but not one of the ppl i know “hate” torrents. They’re just like me.

Oh and about rlslog. I dont download from you, but i do love to read both the reviews and the comments. I’d miss lots of stuff if no one wrote about it. Got recommended so many great movies by you and your users, so thanx.

It’s lame that the site only covers scene releases. It should cover ALL releases, scene or not. If someone else releases it first, and it’s good, cover it. Scene is not the be all, end all. They are typically just a bunch of children with e-peen issues.

Trading Standards is just a couple of socially challenged 16 year old (maybe younger, judging by their NFO’s) nerds trying to feel important.
Anyone of us could do the exact same thing with some free stolen software and a low self esteem; needing to be “recognized” as an unpopular scene group…Any press is good press to these bandwidth wasters.
Until these guys come out with a truly original release they will continue to be the joke of the release scene.
And if they had any BALLS…they would post an E-mail or website address instead of hiding behind countless proxies and invisible IP’s

with everyone else and their mother weighing in, i figured i might as well share my two cents as well…

it seems like much of the discussion on this comments section boils down to whether their should be honor among thieves. whether or not their “should” be, history shows that underground societies that operate with some level of honor and rule tend to last longer (see the mafia) while organizations where everyone stabs each other in the back tend not to last for very long (see american street gangs).

i’m not saying we should virtually drag the trading standards guys/gals out of their homes and virtually lynch them, but i think some honor and decency should be expected. as someone who has spent some time encoding video and uploading torrents, there is a lot of work that goes into it for the uploader/ripper, and their is an art to doing it correctly. Their efforts should be recognized and appreciated, not stolen without credit.

I think the best course of action is to stay neutral and give us news on ALL good quality releases regardless of source, after all those downloading really dont care who did it as long as its quality, hell even some don’t care if they get that crappy cam copy hours after release at the cinema just so they can say they saw it. This site has affiliated itself with the scene for far too long and it’s slowly eating away at this site. As for the scene knocking p2p… where do you think they started? when you watch that downloaded movie or play that cracked game how many of us sit back and take the time to think of all the work that went into it? If you do then how much time do you spend thinking about it? how can stealing from a theif be a crime it wasn’t their property in the first place, and all those older dvdrips for a start can easily be borrowed from Blockbuster and ripped, in fact I suspect many get their old movies like that but shall we slam that now too because it isn’t “scene”?

Where my rips good, I mean technically good? Nope, I’m not scene, not an aXXo , I’m just a guy with a steam powered laptop.

Other people have taken my rips and made them better. Sometimes they credit me, sometimes they don’t. ITS REAL NICE when they do, y’know?

anyone remember fomDB? how that dumb girl put pics and videos of herself all over the site?

Thats being outed as a pirate, giving plube the little credit he’s due isnt. (as I understand plube.com isa RS rls site anyway so it stands to reason its admin is active in the ’scene’ or whatever)

btw everytime you tossers refer to yourselves as the ’scene’ you sound like 14 year old hipsters.

It takes a thief to catch a thief…

Anywayz, the ripping off of one groups release only makes it more difficult for the likes of RIAA and MPAA to find “the culprit”.

Maintaining “guild-standards” for gray area activties is laudable even if ultimately self-destructive.

didn’t scene group consider posting aXXo releases although it’s not scenes’?

    It’s pretty simply.

Rlslog - if you don’t like a particular group simply don’t mention them. For them, any attention is good attention. The best way is to simply ignore them.

People/leechers - Don’t like a release, Rlslog writer or anything else - simply don’t click it. just scroll past and ignore it. It’s not difficult.

Personally, I thank people in the scene for the movies and TV episodes which I like to watch. I have no idea what their motivation is - whether it’s personal glory OR they only release things for their own benefit. Regardless of motivation, I still enjoy the results.

Also, yes some of the rules seem very petty BUT I think having set standards (such as always using Xvid, minimum quality standards, fixed file sizes) etc is a good thing. We don’t want to be flooded with all sorts of poor quality rips using weird codecs. You download a 700Mb DVDrip and you KNOW what quality it will be.. that can only be a GOOD thing.

Finally justice has been served and one now there is one less in this horrible group.. HORRAY! VICTORY! Group is so bad they cant even spell their group name correctly before releasing. Anytime we see a tradingstandards person they will get run down.
