This was released quite some time ago (Almost 2 weeks) but we somehow missed it and i felt i had to post it and making it a staff pick as its another one of my favourite movies of all time! Total Recall is a 1990 science fiction with Arnold Schwarzenegger starring as Douglas Quaid, a construction worker who is haunted by a dream about a journey to Mars. He hopes to find out more about this dream and buys a holiday at Rekall Inc. where they sell implanted memories. But something goes wrong with the memory implantation and he remembers being a secret agent fighting against the evil Mars administrator Cohaagen.
Against the wishes of his sexy blonde wife (Sharon Stone), Quaid goes to Rekall, a company that implants artificial memories, so he can “remember” visiting the red planet that is now being settled by human inhabitants. However, Quaid is actually an amnesiac secret agent from Mars or is he? Enemy agents led by a thug named Richter (Michael Ironside) start trying to kill him before Quaid remembers anything more. Bullets and bone-crunching mayhem follow in large doses as Quaid heads to Mars to deal with mutants, ancient alien races, and Cohagen (Ronny Cox), a greedy capitalist controlling the colonists’ air supply, in an effort to remember his real identity.

Love this movie.
This is the Matrix done right!
No long and monotonous explaination halfway through the movie killing the suspense.
i downloaded the 720p hddvd rip, which is very grainy. Does this one look better than the hddvd version?

Why even bother posting such compressed garbage, or at least why do you never post any good quality HD rips like 10-14GB 1080 rips or retail blu-rays?

ffs. how abt some modern movies from the scene. terminator salvation etc.
so disappointing to check out rlslog for a few days and the only movie releases are low bufget horrow or films made in the 90's.

its excellent on certain sets, mainly 720p sets or 1080p sets under 37". Anything bigger than that they look horrible imo.

This is one of the instances in which the HDDVD version was clearly superior to the Blu-ray… The Blu disc of this film uses MPEG2 encoding, which causes grain and compression artifacts. The HDDVD was much better – I think one of the disc review sites looked at them side-by-side, and tossed in the original and SE DVD version in the comparison.

I try to keep up with scene standards but I can't find anything on what standards there are for the "BD5" tag. They're always about 300MB short of a DVD5. Would someone please fill me in.

Where does this play?
BD5 is meant for playback on pc/popcorn/htpc/ps3/bluray-player
How does it work?
For playback on pc simply extract and play the mkv in your favorite player.
Another option is to create the bluray/image for playback with powerdvd.
For playback on ps3/bluray-player run mkv2bluray.bat and chose "B". This will convert the mkv to bluray and create an image that will play in the PS3 or a Bluray Player.
How's the quality?
Qualiy is to be considered the same as BluRay releases.
Why is BD5 "undersized"?
The conversion to bluray takes up some 200-300MB space which is the bluray overhead. Because of this the mkv is sligthly "undersized".
Why doesn't everything get released as BD5?
We don't know and there is no logical reason. However, as time goes on other groups cannot continue to ignore the bluray community by stubbornly releasing incompatible BluRay releases. It's like releasing DVDR's that don't run in DVD Players.
These types of releases are also meant to replace BluRay releases in archives.
This standard should be nuked. Their logic doesn't make sense, it's like saying all AVI's should play on DVD Players. It's a BluRay player NOT a media streamer. The standard shouldn't be set on BluRay or PS3 or Xbox but on true media streamers like Popcorn Hour, the WD and SageTV. Just like the scene avi standard is catered to standalone Divx players. Afterall, tools like Gotsent are there to fill the gap. Just like ConvertX is there for DVD.

They should make all of bd5. It's ridiculous how many hours I spent processing with ripbot but I do bcuz I want to play it on superior hardware (PS3) I have a very nice setup: HTPC DVI to Sony Bravia 52". No matter how I tweak the PS3-Bravia combo is an unbeatable combo (can we say HDMI v1.4?).
