Top Gear Ground Force Sports Relief 2008 WS PDTV XviD-SPAREL

Fifth Gear on five is not so good when compared to Top Gear, a competing UK car review show which airs on BBC2. Watching the last fifth gear release, I was too disappointed to post it here as I thought it could be a waste of time. Good thing, a recent Top Gear Special was freshly released by UK group SPAREL. Speaking of which, I was recently alerted to a post on our lovely forums detailing leaked information about who the hosts will be for the upcoming USA Top Gear. Sports relief is some sort of BBC fundraising initiative, to help people leading incredibly ‘tough lives’. And so the top gear team does their own episode. Make sure to try if you’re one of those many TG fans.

The Top Gear team of James May, Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond swap the steering wheel for the shovel as they embark on a Ground Force style makeover challenge as part of Sport Relief.

Just so people know, Sport Relief isn’t a charity set up by the BBC, it is shown on BBC1 because it is Britains main channel and there are no adverts, it would be kind of immoral to advertise during a charity show don’t you think? Anyway I don’t think the money should go to Britain and the 3rd world, I think all the money should go to people who need it in Britain.

Oh thank yo Mr. X, I have been seriously jonesing for ANYTHING top gear related because quite frankly, and although I have been giving it a fair try, Fifth Gear is no Top Gear. I’m sorry they are the Mtv of car review shows, they have moments but Top Gear is just gold all the way through, anyway, thank you for the post, and hope to see more like this in the future.

I am fan of Top Gear, but this episode was just stupid. To much of their “accidents” happened. And this episode had just 5% relevance to automobiles.
    Ruined my Saturday morning :)

If ANY of it wasn’t staged i’d be suprised! Top Gear has become a bit toooo scripted these days, but i’ll still watch it because it’s great :D

Oh and the mini digger…. absolutely hilarious!! Every single time :D

    March 16th, 2008 | 02:43

    @19

You miss the point, this is a prog about celebs (the Top Gear crew) raising money for a charity - it’s their celeb status which they are selling not their auto knowledge. Same thing happened with their ‘Top of the Pops’ show - they know nothing (James excepted) about music and probably even less about pop music (other than hating what their kids play- which is a parent thing)’

Always entertaining - long may they reign (And 5th Gear is a shadow of Top Gear)

Forgive me if I’m being dumb here but I’m in Australia where we didn’t get this show and aren’t likely to. We get the series eventually but this Ground Force special isn’t looking like being shown. Some places I went to to watch have it as a two part special but all the links I saw supplied here look like a one off show of one episode. Is there a second part coming or was it all done in the one show? Thanks and thanks to those who supplied links - much appreciated by a deprived Aussie :-)

Sandy, this is a one-off “sketch” for a big televised charity event that lasts for many hours. It’s highly unlikely it will ever be shown anywhere else or ever again.

I don’t really watch 5th Gear but from what I can tell it’s more like what Top Gear was supposed to be; a program where they review mostly normal cars.

Top Gear has become a big-boys show that’s entirely about comedy and really expensive cars. It’s a different kettle of fish.

    March 16th, 2008 | 16:17

I’m a huge top gear fan, believe me, but this was just ridiculous. The only funny thing was when hamster toppled over. I mean sure top gear is always a bit over the top but they usually maintain a certain degree of integrity, but this was so over the top that it crossed the line and just kept going.

I love TG but this was terrible. What a waste of time.

  39. Crunch
    March 17th, 2008 | 01:10

Some of you are missing the point. It’s not Top Gear, it’s Top Gear Ground Force, and it’s a one-off special produced for the BBC’s annual Sport Relief charity event.

It’s the Top Gear team, doing the sort of challenge we’re used to seeing on Top Gear, but it’s a take on “Ground Force”, a garden makeover show, with the target of the makeover being a well known sporting celebrity (in Britain anyway).

If you’re expecting a show about automobiles you’re looking in the wrong place, if you’re looking for the dry humour you’d expect from the Top Gear team you’re in for plenty of laughs.
