Top Gear Filming with not one but THREE Bugatti Veyron loaners in the UAE

Photoshoot goes into Top Gear

ABU DHABI - Psst, buddy, can you spare me a sports car? Yes, evidently, three of them. This weekend Top Gear, the UK-based car magazine, which is in the country for a photo shoot, sent out an urgent request for an unusual car, the million-dollar Bugatti Veyron.

It was hoping for one. Instead, it was offered three of the vehicles, which cost more than Dhs 4.4 million (USD $1.2m) each. “No other place in the world could we have found three Bugattis in a span of 48 hours,” said a relieved Charlie Turner, the creative director for the magazine.

The cars were tracked down by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority and belong to local owners who wish to remain anonymous. Built by Volkswagen, the 1,000-horsepower vehicle can reach 255 MPH (407 KPH). One car in the shoot, a gleaming aluminium-bodied model, is one of only five in the world.

The Corniche area and Jabel Hafeet were briefly closed off for the shoot, which featured the Stig, Top Gear’s mysterious, overall-clad driver. Top Gear, paired with a BBC television show of the same name, sells more than a million copies a month.

Well here we are folks in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Top Gear UK’s favorite and definitely my favorite TV show and magazine is filming with THREE Bugatti Veyrons. The BBC show’s crew was jaw droppingly surprised to find all 3 loaner Bugatti Veyrons. The team racecar driver THE STIG was also there. All the Veyrons were heading to the Marina Mall in downtown Abu Dhabi. Transport Officers had to close several roads for the photoshoot.

Oh almost forgot, part of the shoot was on top of the Jabel Hafeet mountains, and the amazing roads leading upto and through it. Boy, would this be a helluva fun joyride! ;)

More Pics of the this superb driving road - HERE.

Lastly, there is also a rumor going around that there was a Koenigsegg CCX spotted during the photoshoot. So will they do some sort of a race with THE STIG, involving the 3 Veryons & the CCX?? Anybody’s guess but I defnitely cannot wait for the 11th season of this show to get started here shortly this summer. :D Oh and I really hope they get something with the US version up and going, too bad Jay Leno refused to host it.

I do IT work a museum in Los Angeles. We have one there. I’ve been able to drive it once. When not driving the car daily you have to plug it in to keep the computer running. If the car loses power you have to pay $3,300 for someone to come out and reboot the computer. You can look for a blue and silver one on the 405 and 101 freeways around midnight to 4am once a month here in LA. I like the key between the drivers side door and the seat that you have to turn if you want to do 255mph. the tire also only last for 3000 miles and the rims need replacing at 6000 miles.

It would be nice to finally get a proper match-up between the Veyron and the CCX. Volkswagen is refusing the Koenigsegg team to pick up on the challenge and test the CCX on their 5,5 mile straight track. The “record” is therefore grosely misleading since the CCX had to set it’s record on a oval.

The new biofuel CCXR Edition will however smoke it regardless and is reported of doing 260+ MPH in Koenigsegg’s unofficial testing.

The Koneigsegg CCXR Edition presented by Christian von Koenigsegg:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsPPALNYcQk

The Topgear test of the CCX:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh2VwtZbJb4&feature=related

And with the “Topgear wing” (actually an option ever since Koenigseggs first car. The team was nice enough to ablige the goons at Topgear, but the problem was actually Topgear not setting the suspension from top speed performance to handling performance):

The real reason VW sold so few of these cars isn’t because of a lack of market segment (the originals sold out v quickly) but because they lost $4 million on everyone sold. The cost $5 million to make. The whole exercise was a publicity stunt/PR exercise, they were never out to make money.

is any indication of what US Top Gear is bringing to the airwaves, I’m chucking my television out of the window. The bg music is so benign, there’s no exhaust roars, wheelspin, smoke or even tire squeal! About as entertaining as watching grass grow…

Top Gear isn’t about facts, it’s about entertainment. If you want to watch people dribble about boot space and fuel consumption, watch 5th Gear. If you want to watch people dribble about powerrrrr and do stupid stunts with insane cars, watch Top Gear.

Don’t compare the two, as they are different shows. Don’t like one? Don’t watch it. And don’t try to dissuade others by posting rubbish.

i live in vegas and i saw one about a week ago, it was flying and behind it was one of those new audi’s, they could have been racing, but the audi wasnt even close. my boy works at the palms where jordan has a house and heard he had one, so it could of been him. i could be totally off, but someone told me the new lexus there working on will beat this, maybe not in top overall speed, but in everything else. and to ever said they dont sell many of these, i was at a dealership here in vegas that does all supercars and high end luxery, he told me that they were all pre-ordered by celebrities and basketball players, cause it has more room than most supercars so they fit, and the few that made it to a dealerships were gettin marking up like 30%.

I like most of the ones I have downloaded (last couple of seasons).
They do go overboard, with some of the comments, and while overall the US trip was ok, they went overboard in trying to “rial” the locals actually getting more than they bargained for.

The commentary about N.O was dead on, and really had the guys at a loss, when you think about the time that had passed and what most other countries would have done in that amount of time (IE: torn EVERYTHING down right away so re-building could start)

Kind of sucks this is magazine only, since I do not like paying $15 for one UK magazine

here’s a situation. you’re offered to win a bugatti veyron, but you have to pass a challenge. in front of you is a large-size cigar cutter. you must slice off your penis, and then with a drywall-saw remove your balls. only after this you will be given a bran-new veyron. deal, or no deal ?

  84. SomeoneOrOther
    May 21st, 2008 | 00:45

@69 - Perry McCarthy was The Stig for a while, in fact he was the original Stig. Since then numerous other drivers have been the “Tame racing driver”. IIRC The Stig in black coveralls = Perry; all others have worn white. Chances are you already know this, since you referenced the book; but just passing it along for others who might not.

Looking forwards to new shows when they come out. Just wish BBCA would show CURRENT shows vs. ones that are 6+ months old. Oh well, better than nothing. ;-)

These cars are owned by one person from the royal family. His first Buggati was the full red one and it was in London this summer. Then he bought the full chrome and his last one is the full white and the picture of the three bugatti’s in the garage is actually his personal garage where he has alot of exotics. I always see the cars in the petrol station next to my house.

@80 shreif .. get over the war already dude..
As for the whole oil thing, majority of American oil comes from South America.. Belize.. only about 20% is from Middle East (if I recall correctly).

And we prefer S.A. crude because its much thicker than the M.E oil… we’ve refineries set up to utilize the thick crude and can actually get more bang for our buck with South America’s oil vs the Middle Eastern oil…

stuff it dude, everyones tired of hearing conspiracy thearies and blames…

As for the Bugatti .. beautiful car, but seems much like a trophy wife tbh… High maintanence and a savings account sucker! and the return? not much there to hand back.

They sound sweet, and look nice.. We’ve had them up here in Carmel a few times… but stilll

I am ok with the Corvette Z06… 505hp and a fraction of the cost… Still turns heads, still sounds sweet..(personally been 151mph in it) and you have a bit of cash left over in the savings account to buy your date a movie (not popcorn tho!)

–>but all this is coming from a lil’ chick… so I suppose I’ve too much estrogen to intrude on the chest bashing party here LOL
