When you try and copy a show, you will always end up being compared to the original, and more often than not, you’ll fall short. There’s no way anyone could compare to Clarkson, May and Hammond.. so honestly, this show shouldn’t even be here.

I actually think it’s quite good – an Aussie spin on a Pommy show. Once all the presenters stop trying too much and relax, and the show has a chance to develop it’s own ‘character’, it will improve. I’ll be very disappointed if it doesn’t go to a second season.

A lot of Aussie petrolheads are watching it.

I’m looking forward to seeing the HSV W427 getting flogged too!

The guides say the UK version started in 2002 – partly true, the current series started in 2002. I’ve seen its predecessor (1989/91 shows) and that was really dire. Actually it was kinda good coz it was the sort of programme which people allegedly want the present one to be – one that deals with the problems of the real motorist not the monied elite and boofheads like Clarkson. However it was pretty boring – like 5th Gear.
All of the above comments are true, cloning the UK series is OK but the presenters try too hard, they just don’t interact. It always sounds like their banter is read off a tele-prompter (which it probably is) – the UK version sounds like the comments are off the cuff (possibly not so but they sound that way).
The idea is good, Aust cars and conditions are different from UK or Europe, but it needs work. Hopefully it will survive to a second series; if it doesn’t lift its game in the break it is cactus.
Incidentally I heard that the UK team were thinking of doing ‘Stadium Spectaculars’ round the world – now that would be worth watching.

Atleast it better than Mythbusters.The US version is coming compete with Stig too. It’s a franchise guys.

VenGeanCe I don’t know what you’re on about. Top Gear has been going for years! There were a hell of a lot of ‘random’ people before James May, he was on the show before Hammond. You may even notice that half of ‘Fifth Gear’ comprises of ex-Top Gear presenters. Really there should never be a knock off Top Gear, try make your own or something and not call it Top Gear, I can’t see how the aussies would do it properly as it relies heavily on the chemistry between the presenters. There’s only one Top Gear. And if you’re referring to Top Gear starting crap I assume you’re talking about back in 1978? Or are you referring to the re-vamped season?

This is not a copy or a clone. It is made by the SAME people for starters! Only difference is it has different hosts and is made for australians. End of story.

Can anyone reccomend any GOOD car show’s…? I have watched Overhaulin’ – Ride’s – Top Gear – 5th Gear etc… I’m looking for new ones like this, I will give this one a try but it looks like us Poms are not liking it…

For anyone outthere a post of the Rides DVD set would be nice…

Calling Top Gear Australia a rip off is more that stupid.

it is intended to be a copy of the UK, so therefor it looks the same, it feels the same but yet it’s not the same because its the australian version.

get that straight in your head

besides that I kinda like the main presenter. just this young driving instructor is VERY annoying. he is nervous, talks to loud and doesn’t really know what to say at times.

if they’d exchange him for a cool young bloke, like hammond once was (well now he is 38 so might still be cool but not young anymore) the show would improve immediatly.

If they were asked to clone the show, fine. But to go as far as clone the presenter’s personalities as well? Do they not have their own? They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so thanks, Aussies, but there is also a fine line between imitation and desperation.

Well Said AussieTGFan, Top Gear BBC started off crap aswell i doubt most of u eva watched the 1st season with that unknow bloke before J.May. And dont forget that Top Gear Aus is a replica of the UK version so there is a need for the Stig. Btw the Uk tean is comin to Sydney in Feb i think

great show and HELLLLLLLLLLOOOOOO it is exactly a knock off from UK Top Gear. thats the point!!!!! thats what they were asked to do. i went to the live recording of the show last week and i will be on tv next week. it was awesome. cant wait to see myself.
