Here is another episode of Australia’s Top Gear. This is not the original, its the clone (last time i said “inspired” but many disagreed) of it, sound pretty interesting ay? I watched the first one and got sick of it, i missed the original. There is only eight episodes, 4 more to go.

Our fearless hosts step into a world of scones, walking sticks, and shoes with zippers. There is little margin for error, or bright colours for that matter, in this age old sport. Yet rolling an Astra down a steel ramp and steering from the passenger seat is not as easy as it looks. By the end of the day there is a special sub-committee established by Warren to investigate the stolen over-sized novelty jack. From the grassy flats of lawn bowls to the open plains of the outback, the lads pit satellite navigation against Aboriginal tracking skills. Warren will have to rely on his tracker, Diesel with trusty steed Ned, while Steve guides a Toyota HiLux TRD fitted with Follow Me GPS through the picturesque Home Valley Station in remote Western Australia. Who will become champion of the outback and conquer the land before nightfall? Steve Pizzati takes the HSV W427 for a raging spin around Holden’s mysterious ‘Proving Ground’ in Lang Lang, Victoria. Track limit: 250kph. Heart rate limit: unrestricted! And, iconic Australian actor Jack Thompson (the soon to be released Australia, Breaker Morant, Sum of Us) is our weekly “Celebrity in a Bog Standard Car”.

I couldnt last more then 5 minutes of the first episode.
It’s a terrible show, but that’s my justification.

It is indeed a terrible knock-off of the brilliant UK version. I can’t believe they went as far as to copy the STIG, and the three host guys even try to act like the UK presenters. For shame Australia.

great show and HELLLLLLLLLLOOOOOO it is exactly a knock off from UK Top Gear. thats the point!!!!! thats what they were asked to do. i went to the live recording of the show last week and i will be on tv next week. it was awesome. cant wait to see myself. You guys if you don’t like that’s OK. I like it and its great to fill the time before TG UK airs. some people will never be happy. if you don’t like it DON’T WATCH…. simple

If they were asked to clone the show, fine. But to go as far as clone the presenter’s personalities as well? Do they not have their own? They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so thanks, Aussies, but there is also a fine line between imitation and desperation.
Calling Top Gear Australia a rip off is more that stupid.
it is intended to be a copy of the UK, so therefor it looks the same, it feels the same but yet it’s not the same because its the australian version.

besides that I kinda like the main presenter. just this young driving instructor is VERY annoying. he is nervous, talks to loud and doesn’t really know what to say at times.
if they’d exchange him for a cool young bloke, like hammond once was (well now he is 38 so might still be cool but not young anymore) the show would improve immediatly.
i wonder if comment #8 classifies as “off-topic” or “useless” to the discussion? Well if not i must say that, despite being bottom of your karma chart, i have no complaints whatsoever for being born a portuguese besides the fact that we haven’t got a cold enough winter to produce snow. In fact, and i know this is a bit far-stretched, i even think we are overall better off than AIDS or the US these days, who frankly have been in decline the last few years for different reasons. I won’t argue with Turd and Australia though, those still go from strength to strength and are currently kings of fly/people emigration which surely suggests some qualities.
Can anyone reccomend any GOOD car show’s…? I have watched Overhaulin’ – Ride’s – Top Gear – 5th Gear etc… I’m looking for new ones like this, I will give this one a try but it looks like us Poms are not liking it…
For anyone outthere a post of the Rides DVD set would be nice…

I’m sure this show would actually be half decent if they got rid of the other enthusiastic young guy. The other 2 are reasonably good presenters.
VenGeanCe I don’t know what you’re on about. Top Gear has been going for years! There were a hell of a lot of ‘random’ people before James May, he was on the show before Hammond. You may even notice that half of ‘Fifth Gear’ comprises of ex-Top Gear presenters. Really there should never be a knock off Top Gear, try make your own or something and not call it Top Gear, I can’t see how the aussies would do it properly as it relies heavily on the chemistry between the presenters. There’s only one Top Gear. And if you’re referring to Top Gear starting crap I assume you’re talking about back in 1978? Or are you referring to the re-vamped season?

Atleast it better than Mythbusters.The US version is coming compete with Stig too. It’s a franchise guys.

The guides say the UK version started in 2002 – partly true, the current series started in 2002. I’ve seen its predecessor (1989/91 shows) and that was really dire. Actually it was kinda good coz it was the sort of programme which people allegedly want the present one to be – one that deals with the problems of the real motorist not the monied elite and boofheads like Clarkson. However it was pretty boring – like 5th Gear.
All of the above comments are true, cloning the UK series is OK but the presenters try too hard, they just don’t interact. It always sounds like their banter is read off a tele-prompter (which it probably is) – the UK version sounds like the comments are off the cuff (possibly not so but they sound that way).
The idea is good, Aust cars and conditions are different from UK or Europe, but it needs work. Hopefully it will survive to a second series; if it doesn’t lift its game in the break it is cactus.
Incidentally I heard that the UK team were thinking of doing ‘Stadium Spectaculars’ round the world – now that would be worth watching.
I actually think it’s quite good – an Aussie spin on a Pommy show. Once all the presenters stop trying too much and relax, and the show has a chance to develop it’s own ‘character’, it will improve. I’ll be very disappointed if it doesn’t go to a second season.
A lot of Aussie petrolheads are watching it.
I’m looking forward to seeing the HSV W427 getting flogged too!
When you try and copy a show, you will always end up being compared to the original, and more often than not, you’ll fall short. There’s no way anyone could compare to Clarkson, May and Hammond.. so honestly, this show shouldn’t even be here.
