Tiny eeePC now available in 8GB version

I’m pretty sure you heard about eeePC from Asus - this super small notebook has been an instant hit. Even though the 4GB version of Asus’ elfin Eee PC isn’t exactly easy to get hold of, some system sellers have started taking advance orders for the as-yet-unreleased 8GB model. Set be available in both white and black versions, the 8GB solid-state disk Eee PC comes with 1GB of DDR 2 memory - double that installed in the 4GB model.

Asus Eee PC 701

Like that machine, the 8GB incarnation has 802.11b/g Wi-Fi; three USB ports; a 10/100Mb/s Ethernet port; a 7in, 800 x 480 display; and a 900MHz Intel Celeron M ULV processor underclocked to 630MHz. The sub-sub-notebook comes pre-installed with Linux and a basic user interface, though it’s easy to tweak to gain a full Linux desktop, to install Windows XP or even Mac OS X Leopard. The word mobility gets redefined and with 1 gig of memory and more storage capacity, this really becomes an interesting offer.

WOW the 4gig version is 300 to 400 bucks and you can get an underpowered laptop on sale for 500 to 600 and it will do alot of things. This computer is just for e-mail and web porn, I guess thats what most users use computers for anyways right….

could do with more power under the hood considering that the ultra compact pcs have the specs of a basic home pc and their half the size

    @1
By asking if she is better than Halo you answer the biggest question of them all.
Is gaming good for you? Or in this case is Halo any good for you?
When I see that babe in the pic all I want to know who she is.
    Where she lives?
Does my head lying on her lap have shade or not?
When reading some of these comments, especially #8 and #16, I end up with a few other questions…
How much does it cost me to get to Czech republic.
How much does the average restaurant cost for some fine dining?
How much a bottle of wine cost?
How much does it cost to rent a room?
    Do Czech girl/women love Dutchies?
What area in the Czech republic is the best place to pick up those babes?
Would you be able to use that tiny piece of hardware when such a babe is lying next to you?
Is live porn better than watching it?
For those of you that need to ask that last question…Eeeeuhhhh…You are in serious trouble if you have to ask it. :P
Good… In any case if you need to ask the question if she is better than Halo you’ve got some serious human interaction problems and you should stop playing Halo right away.
Right…Time to search some travel agencies and found out how much a ticket cost to the Czech republic.
One final question…Does anyone have a postersize pic of that babe?
And this one is one me but very off topic…:P

It’s easy to clock it back up to 900mhz and use nlite to install a sub 600mb fully patched XP sp2. My friend is running this config on his 4g EEE and it’s super fast. I was impressed by what he could run on it. Don’t knock it until you try it. It really is quite an amazing little machine.

yeah this is a nice little machine, less than a kilo small to fit in regular bag, not need to worry that hard drive is going to corrupt due to the handeling, you can use it almost 4 hours, has 3 usb port, so if you realy want to use big storage you can plug some usb-hdd, so for me this machine is a very good offer

    December 3rd, 2007 | 21:05

Modded xandros is the distro used, and i have 2gb ram upgrade (you need to recompile the kernel to get the 2 gig to work :P) and an 8gb sdhc card in it for extra storage. Its the mote swesome laptop yuou can get, a TRUE portable computer, only just larger than a DVD case.

  33. ryan
    December 3rd, 2007 | 21:06

    lol @ 25

Why would you want a 8GB SolidState HDD when Toshiba’s Portege R500 already has a 64GB one out, and is in the process of releasing a 128GB SSHDD next year.. Granted they are pricey machine, but have a DVD Writer in them.

  34. yeah ok

7 inches is way too small for a screen and storage isnt big enough lol, but for the price what do you expect.

  39. Halo 3
    December 4th, 2007 | 00:00

If we spam enough HALO 3 in rlslog this will be the next big thing they will find when ppl google halo.

Btw just to clarify and answer all the question.

YES she is better than halo 3 BUT , yes unfortunately theres a but. Bang for buck, Halo 3 wins hands down. That chick however would cost you all your live savings =\

  40. ExaPro
    December 4th, 2007 | 00:03

4GB HD… wow, welcome to the 21st century then ;-) my first iPod had more! After the OS installed you get 3GB remaining or what? Just not enough for anything… not for some pics nor for some small movies. Just can’t see the purpose of that thing… crappy screen and still thicker than my MacBook… and does it come with sandprotection to use it on the beach… like the add suggests… don’t think so.
Buttomline: just another badly implemented marketingstrategy-luckypunch to push into some possible niche-market!

Let’s see, cost $399 at best buy, cost of 1 T hard drive cost $399 or a little more. Not bad really but the girl will cost you an arm and leg but I will have smile on my face after she gets’ done eating me.

@ all the horny nerds that can’t keep their saliva in when seeing a blonde chick in a bikini:
Get your fat ass off your chairs, get out, get to know the real world, get a life!
Then you’d someday maybe get to know a woman you don’t have to pay for ;-) Poor devils!

@44 Tucker: “last time i was in Macau, i did a blonde like her for $100USD..:)”

Your only way of getting sex with a reasonable attractive woman is to go to a foreign country and pay for a hooker?

    Dell recently ran a promotion for a Vostro: Athlon X2, 1GB DDR2 and a 120GB hard disk. $399.

What is the point of this again, other than being a fashion accessory?

  52. john
    December 5th, 2007 | 09:24

    re : Thom (post 52)

The point of this device is that is less than 1kg and can fit in any bag, be taken anywhere (on the train, overseas, cafe) to do basic things. These things include email, mp3s, movies and doing work on the move.

Yes there are alternatives out there slighly more expensive an d more powerful, but why would I want to carry around a 3kg 15inch notebook if I can do the same things with the eeepc? You see where I am getting at? Not all users in this world reside on rlslog and have the same needs and uses as we do.
