Releaselog

Think before you post a comment!

I’d like to make this small announcement following recent events here at Releaselog. I received a whole bunch of emails from people complaining about crappy comments on our posts. I’m talking mostly about the Live Free Die Hard post, which went totally out of hands and transformed into the political and national arguement on the lowest level. Consider this as the last warning: we are going to delete every single offtopic, rude and intolerant comment from now on. The author of this comment will be banned forever from accessing this site. This also applies on people posting “first!” comment. There won’t be a single exception from this rule and we won’t reply to your email begging of allowing you to access the site again. Zero tolerance. Comments are here for people asking and informing about the quality and not saying that certain country is better/worse than some other country or expressing your racism concerns. So please, use your brain before you write your next comment – you will be the only one responsible for possible consequences.

Comments (150)

Feel free to post your Think before you post a comment! torrent, subtitles, samples, free download, quality, NFO, rapidshare, megashares, sendspace, filesonic, filefactory, netload, crack, serial, keygen, requirements or whatever-related comments here. Don't be rude (permban), use only English, don't go offtopic and read FAQ before asking a question. Owners of this website aren't responsible for content of comments.

Good job Martin(and whoever else thats involved in this decision), I always look through comments for actual comments concerning the quality of the release and intellectual discussions, but Im always rampaged with messages on how we don’t care about history, how a country is better than others, thanks to this announcement, the comments on rlslog will be of quality and not of ignorance :)

    July 2nd, 2007 | 22:13

Totally agree, i was just wondering why didn’t you done this before?! Also, i would like to ask, if we’re requesting for crack only of the game in comments, is it ban or not?
Also, posting some links to torrent sites or rapidshare’s ?
It will be good if you be more precise or specific with the rules.
Thanx in advance (hope i won’t get banned for this…) ;)

    I agree. Well said.
This should be a site for all to enjoy.

    July 2nd, 2007 | 22:17

@ YoKo, I think what you said are allowed, this rule here I believe is only for those morons who wish to discuss about politics and nationalities instead of what they are actually posting a comment to.

Ive felt this site has needed this for a long time, Ive all but stopped reading comments because theres nothing informative there anymore, its mostly full of people leaving irrelevent comments and people who start arguing about the most ridiculous things sometimes, and I support the descision to implement this fully. If you wanna debate the current political climate or what country is the “best”, go find a forum somewhere and keep it out of here.

  6. July 2nd, 2007 | 22:21

This is why forums have moderators.

  7. July 2nd, 2007 | 22:23

One more thing, can’t you implent something like digg has? Like that you can burrow posts, so they are automatically hidden?

  8. July 2nd, 2007 | 22:23

well said folks .. quailty and nothing but !

    July 2nd, 2007 | 22:24

Sounds like a great idea. Btw. this sentence of the grey text above the first comments seems a bit wierd: “Feel free to post your Think before you post a comment!” :D Just wanted to point that out since it’s very easy to miss.

  10. July 2nd, 2007 | 22:26

Well said Martin. Although I am no fan of censorship…in rare cases some comments are just asking to be deleted.

    rock on rlslog!
thanks for improving the site and making it EVEN BETTER! for those of us that love it so much!

    two thumbs up!

    July 2nd, 2007 | 22:32

I’d personally prefer it if you had to have an account and log in to comment. (with the hopes that morons would be banned)

The “first” comments piss me off as they are pointless.

To be honest this site isn’t what it used to be i used to love coming on here and reading comments and the days posts, now i rarely come on just to see if a decent movie release has come out and then i leave, but i guess that’s what happens when something becomes a bit more popular.

  14. July 2nd, 2007 | 22:34

    Censorship

Which is exactly the same as the MPAA. If a couple of jerk-offs wanna have a debate, let them. Did you see the “Sicko” Thread ? Double Standard ?

By the way, I haven’t seen the “Die Hard” thread. It’s hard to believe release log a site about posting illegal software, Would start threating Censorship. Its mind blowing.

If this gets me banned, So be it. I don’t support Internet Censorship

  15. July 2nd, 2007 | 22:35

product, things need to be regulated…
everything in life needs regulation, after all we are just animals…
im sorry you feel that way about rlslog, i hope that you do not get banned, simply because you presented your argument maturely and seem like a great person, but i do believe that it is a good thing to do this for the greater majority of us (majority is supposed to rule right? =P).

  18. July 2nd, 2007 | 22:46

i was just wondering how are you going to stop people from accessing this site the only way i can see is an IP ban but it is very easy to get past those, just use a proxy server and you can get on the site easy. so were you going to use IP bans or were you going to use something eles?

Hello, I’m a new reader here ( only 1 month at here )and loving the site..

And i like to read comments, because i like to know what people say about the quality, torrent’s links, etc..

But my god, so many ” Like to flame ” type of people post things that have nothing to have with the topic..

So yes, I’m not a guy who like to see censorship in comments, but i think in this case, i have to agree with them..

A big thanks to the people who run this site, because it’s a good one :)

    July 2nd, 2007 | 22:51

I don’t know how you do it, I used to run a blog with way less activity than this one, about 7 or 8 comments a post and those comments drove me nuts, people insulting each other, complaining about everything and nothing at the same time, insulting my editors, after a while I simple moved on, and god ridden. So a big URRA for your patience, specially Martin.

I believe everyone in on the right track. Comments UNDER a category item should be about the item. ALL OTHER comments should be SENT somewhere else. There, apparently, is a burning desire among THIS SITES VISITORS to make comments and to be heard. Create something for them! Man, it feels as if you have something here, something big ! Take advantage of it…

and in reply to Nick trust me, everyone knows about proxies and other ways to avoid ip bans, but if youve been around awhile if you repeatedly ban ips, all the good ones will eventually run out unless those people start buying them, in which case rlslog will have technicly won, and besides like I said, everyone here already knows it, everyone is already thinking about it, theres no need for you to state the obvious, besides that i will retire for the evening gents and keep up the good work at rlslog

    July 2nd, 2007 | 23:17

Thank you so much Martin! In this case Censorship is needed because of some people that turned this site into a flame war including one person who admitted he started the Live Free Die Hard flame war on purpose. I love this site and am happy for all the free things that have come my way and I used to always look to the Comment section to see about the quality, but lately everytime I’d check out the Comments all I would see is vicious name calling about members of a certain race or cruel comment against different countries, it was getting way out of hand. I’m not one for Censorship either, but everyone needs to follow some kind of rules or then it would be ok to steal and kill. Almost every site I’ve been on as certain rules to follow…..now at least we can get back to the real issues : Downloads!!

  31. Mabs
    July 2nd, 2007 | 23:19

I agree with the necessity of rules. I don’t like censorship, but society must have some rules, some code of action. I like democracy, not anarchy. My freedom to speak must not restrict other people’s rights.
Some people need to learn some manners and respect others.
Nice to see this kind of rules in RLSLOG.net.

    July 2nd, 2007 | 23:31

Don’t you realize how stupid ip banning is? Some might have fixed ips, but most isps rotate the ips to their customers either at intervals or at router cold boots. And what’s stopping some banned guy from accessing rlslog from a different ip or pc. But what IS gonna happen is that the more ips you ban, the bigger the chance is that honest rlslog users might end up being banned. And the plan will backfire.

    July 2nd, 2007 | 23:42

  37. Joel Rifkin
    July 2nd, 2007 | 23:49

Martin, you might want to consider policing your own staff…namely Mr.X…who likes to start these political arguments in the first place.

  38. nayab9
    July 2nd, 2007 | 23:54

    @ Joel Rifkin

IMO Mr.X does nothing of that sense.

Its the people who misinterpret and go looking for something to @#$# about that cause arguments to take place.

I read Mr. X’s posts and i see nothing wrong with them, next thing i see people commenting and rambling on about useless nonsense just because they want to argue about something.

@ Mabs 100% agreed, democracy chooses, the ones who dont like it, can leave, nobody is forced to be here!

  39. July 2nd, 2007 | 23:57

Yes, Martin I agree with this step wholeheartedly as it will keep the more ‘immature’ element at bay (racists, flamers, trolls, imposters and spoilers).

Although, on the subject of immaturity you should also keep your own contributors (namely Mr.X) from causing problems. See the post referenced below and my comment #57 therein.

    http://www.rlslog.net/history-channel-dead-mens-secrets-hitlers-special-force-pdtv-xvid-sometv/

BTW, I hope you still allow swearing and humourous banter, etc. in the comments as this is just part of normal conversational interaction and not meant to insult.

Anyway, good luck as I presume there will be a fair bit of work involved initially!

“I agree with the necessity of rules. I don’t like censorship, but society must have some rules, some code of action. I like democracy, not anarchy. My freedom to speak must not restrict other people’s rights.”

So, you will be buying your DVDs from now on will you?
You are part of this scene and this scene is all about not doing what you are told to do by society.

You have decided to ignore that rule that society has given you yet you and others now want to define what I may do because you know best? Make my rules? That is a tall soapbox right there.
I am not one of the posters who pushed the staff into this new rule, I have behaved myself but not because of any rules but because the service is a good one.

These comments that must be cursed from this land are nothing more than an industry hazard, don’t panic.
The place is full of free thinking individuals, not mindless drones, buying what we are told to buy, would you really want it any other way?
The odd bad text will slip out of people like that, shit happens. Let it go and spend your time doing what this site does best rather than spending it reading comments by people and checking their views against your masters acceptable text scale.
You can never get rid of the trolls, never happened in an open system, so why let them get to you?

    Only my two coins.

    July 3rd, 2007 | 00:10

censorship is not what we are talking about. as the sign says “management reserves the right to refuse service to anyone at anytime.” it is entirely reasonable to limit discussion to that which benefits site visitors.

kicking someone out of a news studio for screaming into the mic is not censorship, it’s good business. good business does not translate into a discussion about the RIAA.

there is a certain energy about the internet that leaves people thinking they have the right to be ripe bastards because they are typing on a keyboard at a distance- never would they treat someone like that in public (well, maybe while they are in their car). it is time that the citizens of the net take a stand and treat this energy the same way we treat spam. eliminating spam is not censorship- it rids my inbox of filth. this is the same goal i believe that rslog is trying to achieve. focus, positive energy, and why you’re at it, scraping the shit off your shoe that tends to show up at certain moments is perfectly reasonable and is in no way censorship.

These so-called unrelated comments appeared because of the Pro-American propaganda IN THE MOVIE. Comments about the movie are unwelcome…wtf?

Mr X, may your chosen idol of protection rain down good fortune on your clever head.

Nothing wrong with having an opinion, it is the way some choose to express said opinion that gets some peoples knickers well and truly twisted.
Would we honestly though as an answer to that decide to remove the opinion from people?
I find a simpler solution is not to feed them, a hungry cat soon moves house.

Glad to see you “get it” Mr X, I see a chilled and educated life in your future ;)

what might be smarter, would be to use registration, you have to have been registered for 1 month before you can post comments or some crap like that, but still that goes against my “I hate registering for anything” way of life, still whatever the guys at rlslog decides goes, so stop criticizing their choice to ban ip’s, I mean seriously people everyone knows how easy it is to change ips or how dynamic and fixed ips work drop the subject please,

otherwise you guys might end up sparking another stupid topic, this is the second and last time ill post about it, talking about ip’s doesnt make you smart so ssssh

martin…”we are going to delete every single offtopic, rude and intolerant comment from now on.” Does this also go for staff who post comments that instigate this problem u speak of ? I am all for free speech but if zero tolerance means zero tolerance than should it also go fo the staff who also post comments saying that certain country is better/worse than some other country . please email me with your reply or beter yet post it here :) .

    @ gravy

who decides, and against what set of rules or guidelines do they decide what constitutes as ’shit on the shoe’?

the Internet is one of the last true free speech outlets available in the world…that means taking the good with the bad…an opinion is an opinion, weather grossly wrong or blatantly right…

    July 3rd, 2007 | 01:11

any chance of only posting movies, games & shows etc. that are of some-artistic merit? lately there are tons and tons of “crappy” movies and shows being posted. i,e posted movies with ultra-low ratings or porn shows or train games doesn’t seem the “fare” most viewers come here to find. i also miss foreign [i.e not Hollywood] films.

that being said, great job on the site. much appreciated in advance.

    July 3rd, 2007 | 01:49

    Quite amusing.

About time!!! Well said,I don’t know how many times I’ve had to question the intelect of some individuals on here..This site is all about advising each other on what’s good as in quality wise etc,but then I always used see other people getting be-littled by the so called computer “savvy”…What’s funny is,that particular person started off the same way as the new person and surely there’s no reason to feel superior or more knowledgable that the other person…Have always considered the rlslog staff to be of high standard, and definately with these kind of decisions, they’re only a few inches from GREATNESS!!!

  56. Fango
    July 3rd, 2007 | 02:07

  59. pingspike
    July 3rd, 2007 | 02:38

Agree to it all, provided your consistant. Making exceptions for staff mouthing off is equally not cool (infact often, worse).

  60. July 3rd, 2007 | 02:38

    @me

They can ban static IP’s like most broadband providers use. Yours is obviously dynamic, so you can go crazy! Unless they ban a range of IP’s that includes your area.

  61. ZV
    July 3rd, 2007 | 03:18

This site was waaay cooler in the beginning. And Martin, if your going to do this then you need to start with the root of this problem, and that is the blatant Anti-American, Pro-European Racist on your staff. Since this guy started here, the majority of the stuff he posts is Anti-American drivel mixed in with his unique brand of blatant Racism. (”Yet another Black is arrested”) It’s not fair to threaten the people that don’t agree with your contributors crap, and that’s what this Ban seems like. Your a smart guy and I’m sure you know what is wrong, fix the REAL problem, not the guys responding to it.

  62. July 3rd, 2007 | 03:25

While good in theory, the problem is when you do start IP banning folks (those with static IPs atleast) they will start using proxy servers and tor to harass and spam rlslog. The number of static IP addresses you’ll find these days are very low compared to what they used to be. You’ll end up blocking users who happen upon someone else’s Non-Static IP when their IP changes every few days/hours. So basically it’s not going to really be enforceable until you require registration. Once you do that the site becomes half of what it used to be. I’m not saying I will cause any issues myself, I just wanted to point out the issues involved in this decision.

  63. bbster
    July 3rd, 2007 | 03:26

I also have a hard time with censoring commments. The original comment that started the “Die Hard 4″ fire was quite legitimate, regarding propaganda. It was the various obvious juvenile comments later that really fanned the flames. Namecalling, stereotyping, ect… I’m guilty of getting sucked in because of the stereotyping… are the trolls really trolls or are they just young, opinionated.?? who knows… but if a dicussion about a movie turns political, who cares… as long as those involved can be mature… this site is unique that it brings together movie lovers at all ages from all over the world… learn from eachother, show respect and give it… just my opinion… late (from Cali), cheers (to UK), abayo (to Nihon), hasta (to Espain), take off hoser (to canada), Au revoir (to france) Arrivederci (to Italy) that’s all i know off the top of my head… teach me more friends… bbster

  64. Steve
    July 3rd, 2007 | 03:44

Censorship or not, the comment section is for Q&A about the torrent contents and availability only and not about the subject matter in the torrent. There are hundreds of websites and forums for lame “I know it all” discussions so whomever does’nt like the fact that they can no longer de-rail what is being posted then tough.

    Go cry elsewhere.

Kudo’s for putting a foot down on spam comments. Nothing worse than funneling through crap to find out why a file is not downloading right because some jackass wants to talk about political bs.

    Hi,

There are some very creative individuals on the comments pages of this site, stopping them from writing here would do nothing to benefit the quality of the site.
At the same time i would believe that barring personal insult, people should be able to say whatever they want anywhere, we can always CHOOSE to ignore them if we must.

I did not notice anything! it is because I really don’t have any time being online anymore. But I think it’s time for those to stop posting “stupid” comments and people to begin to show some respect for the job you guys are doing.

I’m all for this decision. I’ve seen a lot idiot comments here lately, and general douchebaggery.

My only concern is that you might be banning to vividly, at least if I interpret the meaning of your zero tolerance policy.
With certain posts here in rlslog gaining high amounts of comments. There ought be false positives. For instance people with bad grammar, or posts containing subtle irony.

  72. July 3rd, 2007 | 05:43

You could perhaps also integrate a “digg” like feature for comments, like some other blogs have done. Good comments will be rated up, and bad comments hidden.

The comments (wel OK, and the releases) are the best thing on releaslog. I most certainly don’t come here for the ‘neutral’ posts of those ‘great’ moderators like Martin an Mr. X.

I would say it’s only fair that we can also take action against idiotic and off-topic log entries like the “weekend-update” section Martin did a while back. The update had NOTHING to do with new releases of scene but it’s here anyway.

Furthermore, there is of course no control on your IP bans. You can ban everybody that even dares to make a comment on your posts (it happened to me already a while back, don’t deny it), without us knowing the real reasons for it. You are providing a service, if you can’t handle it and have to start playing police, don’t do it!

With this step you are making a big mistake. Censorship is never good, and IP banning is idiotic. Simply delete posts you don’t like, that way you ‘moderators’ can actually earn the buck. You most certainly don’t do that with your release description!

Was this ‘on-topic’ enough for ya???

C’mon people… Internet censorship is harsh but a necessary evil… I’d be interested to see the response when these people’s kids start watching Al Q’aeda recruitment videos on Youtube…

At the end of the day, this site is here to inform about releases and their quality… When users of the site cannot do that (without skipping through hundreds of off-topic posts) then traffic to the site is lowered…

Do people think this is the first site to delete off-topic posts?

And as for the ‘you can’t ban me attitude’, there are many, many techniques for blocking access to a website – IP blocking is just one – there are tracking cookies, profiling and many more… Just because a few people know how to get a new lease from their ISPs DHCP server doesn’t mean they can do ‘anything’…

Get a book… Understand the OSI 7 model, understand the difference between layer 2 & 3 comms blah blah blah…

Rant over – sorry to the 99% of people on here who are taking this maturely – RLSLOG is an awesome site and the peeps here give a valuable service to the scene – I hate to see that value taken away by the minority…

registering just for commenting would be an answer?
or giving users ID’s manually (by e-mail / chat server / others ) with credits used for commenting. ID’s could be stored in cookies.

Comments will be approved, and if someone comments something useful, or at least not comments likean idiot, recieves extra credit

THE PROBLEM WITH THE RIGHT TO FREE SPEACH IS THAT SOME PEOPLE INSIST IN ABUSING IT !

I STRONGLY beleive in your right to do and say what the hell you want, but we have to draw the line somewhere!

I personally am glad that the guys who run this site are taking a stand against all the shit. This stuff is ruining Pirate Bay as we speak.

Although the comments and pissy fights can get very funny, please keep your comments to the point : is the film any good and is the quality of the post worth downloading.

Not true. They provide no service to the scene, valuable or otherwise. Remember, the scene is about sharing, not about providing copyrighted content for everyone freely.

I’m really happy to hear about this new policy, I stopped reading the comments along time ago on this site. For a while now they have been extreme, rude, abusive or lacking decorum, whatever you want to call it, something I wouldn’t wish to participate in.

Hearing that you will start moderating them makes me feel much more inclined to start reading them again.

I’m glad you’re going to start putting your foot down, it should’ve come earlier. You shouldn’t go too strict though, if a discussion about the movie evolves into a discussion on politics and is done calmly (as hard as it is to do) then they may as well, but if things start getting out of hand as bad as they did on the Die Hard post, you should just lock the comments on the post. I’d never seen such an out of control blog post. If people can’t respect the others they are talking to, then I don’t really believe they have the right to criticize anyone else. This is a good site and shouldn’t be torn down by things like this.

You would need to ban a hell of a lot of proxy services in order to stop people posting comments here.
If you wanted to ban access to releases that simply isn’t possible with the setup you have here.

    > Get a book… Understand the OSI 7 model,
    > understand the difference between layer 2 & 3
    > comms blah blah blah…

Blah blah blah indeed. You’re posting on a blog. Get a web browser and have a look at some others. You couldn’t go 5mins without getting a referral to a proxy reader that circumvents any network blocking you think is possible.

  89. Futtbucker
    July 3rd, 2007 | 11:10

First off kids, the threat of a ban is utterly useless. The prevelance and accessibility of free proxies makes it pointless.

Second, “right to free speech” and “censorship” is completely irrelevant. This is a privately ‘owned’ space, making the owner the only person who can decide whether they will allow such speech to be censored/monitored. YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHTS HERE. If you don’t like it, leave, that is your ONLY recourse (aside from the obvious bitching and whining you’re guaranteed to do).

Third, everyone get a fucking clue. The sheer volume of ignorance and utter lack of intellect everywhere on rlslog is staggering and a perfect example of why the internet requires a minimum intelligence test before being allowed to access it. This is simply unavoidable on sites that pander those with interests in the related content, so get used to it. Any attempt to somehow retard this behaviour is going to be utterly fruitless and simply an exercise in futility. Perfect example: 4chan. It simply cannot be done.

Lastly, “the scene” is nothing more than children screaming and yelling about their e-penis. Nothing more. Any claims otherwise are laughable.

On a blog that line is generally switching off comments. Either you do that or you don’t.

    > Although the comments and pissy fights can get
    > very funny, please keep your comments to the
    > point : is the film any good and is the quality of

When you provide more authoritive ratings and samples for releases such comments would appear to be redundant. There doesn’t appear to be a reason to keep them.

  92. lol
    July 3rd, 2007 | 11:26

This whole thing is moronic. It’s a fight RLSLOG can only lose, no matter what they do. They ban IPs? They risk banning fair users or new users that end up getting a banned IP, and as the ban-list grows the only thing RLSLOG ultimately does is limit their user potential. They demand registration? You’ll definitively lose out on fair comments because not everyone bothers signing up. You enforce strict moderating? It’ll be a mess with some of the already trigger happy moderators on this site (some of my friends got banned for just disagreeing with this site for Pete’s sake! Some of the people on RLSLOG are huge ego-trips that gets pissed off for nothing).

The best solution has already been posted above. Remove the comments sections all together. And make a forum or something elsewhere, if you wish to have some sort of RLSLOG “community”.

No, there are not many efficient ones. Tracking cookies – i bet you mean just normal cookies. They are just cookies, and yes – you can get rid of em with click of a button.

No you dont have to get new ip from dhcp, you can just use other ips to connect this site.

“Get a book… Understand the OSI 7 model, understand the difference between layer 2 & 3 comms blah blah blah…”

This is what i dont understand. It didnt help you to think about 2 minutes before posting. And wouldnt tcp/ip-model with 5 layers be more suitable examble ?

But as for the decision to remove and ban posts here is something i can understand, but i would advice to reconsider that.

“Comments are here for people asking and informing about the quality”

But in many earlier posts, you have stated to “see the quality for yourself” and i totally agree with that. But i think there cant be made any good conversation about that.

There are though some important posts about concering the release, but i think you have a pretty massive task to delete posts now here ? Wild guess, but this might even feed some trolls even more.

Futtbucker, get your definitions straight kid. Censorship can exist in a privately owned space. This is a publicly accessed site, but the public’s ability to share information is being restricted – that’s censorship. And everyone has rights, regardless whether they’re in a private space or not. Personally I don’t mind reading comments that I don’t agree with. I can handle that. Seems like censorship is just for over-sensitive people.

For rls reviews I use vcdquality – rlslog doesn’t compare and improving the comments section won’t change that fact. Rlslog is just a warez site with some quality control. So I don’t see the problem with people having arguments or discussions in the comments section. People that don’t like to read all that can skip it. Choice is a good thing.

RSLOG, proving daily that one does indeed reap what one sows.

You think it’s an accident the comments section of this site is a cross between a cesspool and an in-progress train wreck? Puhlease, the comments section reflects the site and its posters perfectly.

Oh… And banning people? You are kidding, I hope? First, if you think you can ban a determined individual from accessing the site, you’re either massively ignorant or truly delusional — or both. Second, who in the world would really care if you could and did? Granted, this place can be mildly entertaining for its ability to delve into hitherto unsuspected depths of idiocy on an almost daily basis, but do you really think anyone would shed a tear if you really could and did ban them? Yeah, right. A disincentive that everyone knows won’t work and no one would really care about if it did work is not much of a disincentive at all.

The only thing an attempt at banning commenters will accomplish is — much as, ironically enough, with DRM — to tempt some to find ways around your attempts just so they can mess with you.

Frankly the whole idea is nearly as amusing and twice as ironic as the copyright notice at the bottom of each of your plagiarism-filled pages.

The only reason I ever read the comments is because sometimes in the Software downloads it gives me really good info about some other application that might be better or someone might give an interesting link, but it’s been hard to wade thru all the racial insults to get to the info.

Hello mate. Point well made. I think it’s time to adjust the way the site is structured to simply giving only the relevant movie plot, ripping group, IMD and rip quality info and having a link below the sample picture to goto a comments page regarding that post if you want to do so.

Perhaps it’s time for EVERYBODY to just GROW A BRAIN.

In the mean time, Martin and the boys – keep up the site, as I check it daily for new posts and will continue doing so – no matter how much the intellectually challenged attempt to hijack it with their intollerance and hate.

ROFL now this post has become a flaming cess pit. RLSLOG should realise this site is not some kind of prestigious website. Its a dump site that posts information on illegal file sharing.

Its also a promotional (or traffic catching) site for their main torrent site http://www.newtorrents.info – which I may add is slow as anything and full of fake torrents and spyware.

I think places like this are still considered no-mans land, and should not be censored. Nobody forces anybody to read the comments, and most of the time comments on torrent sites are conflicting and misguiding anyway.

The operators of this site have got to be kidding if they think they can enforce censorship on a website the promotes illegal filesharing.

OK for all the little morons out there who think they know it all because they managed to install linux (lol) – yes you can be banned from a site if the admins know what they are doing… There are lots of ways that aren’t publicised so joe-q-numnuts cant google a workaround…

A good admin will have his own tricks, not just use some already broken technique like IP blocking….

Eg – one that actually worked for quite a while was some script that dropped an entry in your local lmhosts file with a fake ip for a particular websites dns entry… Worked well until people found out what was happening and used dns proxies as well…

Point is – the best security is obscurity – things like ip blocking are known by all and of course its easy to get around – my point is if you’re smart enough you can make it enough of a hassle that MOST people either aren’t good enough to figure out whats up or can’t be bothered…

Whilst I agree (to a degree) about some of the above regarding “Freedom of Speach” and all that there has to be a line. People just sprouting random racist shite shouldn’t be allowed full stop, and where they’re posting it is irrelevant.

IMO Releaselog should become a member only site because the amount of completely pointless random shit that’s posted is becoming too much…this thread is a point in itself.

It’ll take the muppets 5 mins to sign up and it’ll take you 2 seconds to ban them.

Keep doing what you’re doing though releaselog and don’t let the minority idiots spoil it…let the banning commence I say. :)

First and foremost, there is no way what so ever to block some one from the site. The only way that works is IP blocking, and that has it’s own problems. Any other way does not work. It just doesn’t, trust me. I challenge any one, ban me! You can’t! The host file trick only works on completely unprotected system, and only for few days at most. The cookie trick works as long as you don’t empty your cookies or switch browsers. No other way works, you can even (some how, though it’s not possible at the moment) grab MAC numbers, but even those are easily faked. Plus, you will incur the raff of some one who actually knows what they are doing, and then this site will have problems. Remember, after all, the community that you are fucking with.

That said, I do not believe in Censorship, however, you can fix the problem rather easy. After all, what we mostly looking for is opinion on the sound, video, and quality of the movies. So, why not have a survey that will ask you to rate those things on a scale of 1-10 and add a short, 50 char comment to each rating. Then, after that, you can also add a full comment like this, but the users to the site would have an option to see only the survay.

I think this is a good idea. Oh, and Fuck You Mr. X, you are a bad human being. That’s how low my opinion is of you, you not even worth the insults. You just a bad person.

  131. July 5th, 2007 | 01:22

The only thing I wanna say after reading all this is that people behave on the internet as they do at home. Therefore I believe the best way of eliminating these offensive timewasters would be creating individual logins and passwords so that you would be able to control who is posting. Whenever you decide to ban a user you would be able to delete not only his account but also all his comments.
    Hope it helps somehow.
    Cheers

The admins on here need to grow a pair, and wake da fuck up! THIS IS AN ILLEGAL WEBSITE!

How can you ban us????? If anyone’s gonna get banned it’s this website. The Jewish run organization called the MPAA has already put this site on its shit list.

Mr. X seems to like to start Europe/Canada vs. USA arguments in the comments of his nationalistic posts. I like his posts, but I seriously tire of the “dumb Americans” shit he likes to spout. Considering the torrents he likes to post are entirely *American* content, he should put his money where his mouth is and only post Canadian content suitable for a 16 year old such as Mr. X.

I think Mr.X seems ok, I don’t see any evidence of him saying things just to make an pointless argument or insult people. He seems to stay on-topic, which is the important thing. I think some people just don’t like his opinions.

one of the reasons I like to post these brain-food TV shows, is that we get lots of dumb americans visiting here who need to learn the history in order to realize and make the connections between their current NWO-run government and hitler’s rise of his police state.

While this comment does not personally bother me, it really does show how immature Mr.X is… Statements like this, “Start shit” and if the staff here on New Torrents want us to “Think before you post a comment” Maybe they should tell their staff to do the same.

  137. July 5th, 2007 | 12:29

You could just completely disable comments, that would swiftly solve all the problems.

    July 5th, 2007 | 13:38

bbster, it’s a statement of fact – there are dumb americans visiting the site. :)

…along with dumb brits, australians, french, etc etc…

I think you need a better example.

Besides that I don’t think censoring comments or posts is a good idea. I like opinions, regardless whether I agree with them. And I have the ability to not read things that are posted, but don’t have the ability to read things which have been deleted. It’s about choice. Just choose not to read posts by Mr.X if you don’t like him.

fghf, I don’t disagree that there are dumb americans visiting the site. I don’t want censorship either. I just think that comments like that set certain vocal people off and then it turns the thread into something ugly. Like this Focker guy who posted before us who writes “Nigger” over and over again. I don’t know man, i just really enjoy this site and I also enjoy many of the crazy or over the top comments as well. But when people start name calling or get racist it kinda bums me out… I hear what you’re saying about choice and i’m with you on that. I will keep reading Mr.X though, maybe i just got him pegged wrong. We shall see. Much respect… bbster peace out

Could make people pay to have a username and password on here to be able to post. 25c for a week(s) or something like that.

Must admit all the kiddies thats posted here have made me somewhat giggle. No matter what happens, the internet is allways gonna have these kids, just gotta filter the little fuckas and get on with things.

Chin up Martin and co. Your doing a cracking job. Kids have said you should get some balls. Well I think your balls must be pretty fecking big to host a site which takes so much organisation to run and more importantly; hold a community.

    bbster,
“comments like that set certain vocal people off”

Agreed, I see your point. And having thought about it I think you’re right that Mr.X uses inflammatory language in many posts. Personally I like that because it’s his opinion, and I prefer that to a lifeless review full of platitudes – or just a copy and paste.

I agree that it’s hypocritical for rlslog to ban people while their own staff stir up people’s emotions about certain subjects.

Having reread Martin’s original post, “offtopic, rude and intolerant” is perfectly reasonable grounds for deleting a comment. I think the phrase “banned forever” hits a nerve with a lot of people, and adds an element of competition for some. All things considered, it seems like simply deleting rude off-topic comments is enough.

    :)

this is a website about movies, music, apps, and games and comments should be about these topics and nothing else.I unstand people get upset sometimes and say silly things but take a breath and think about what your going to say before saying it.And for those people out their the best way to get rid of these people is to not make a comment on what they say in the first place.

Congratulations,Martin, and all at RLSLOG for the stance on Zero Tolerance. The vast majority of serious users regard the site as a valuable research tool and are sick and tired of mindless, banal and racist comments in Our Community. Keep up the good work!

‘ Consider this as the last warning: we are going to delete every single offtopic, rude and intolerant comment from now on. The author of this comment will be banned forever from accessing this site…There won’t be a single exception from this rule and we won’t reply to your email begging of allowing you to access the site again. Zero tolerance. ‘

So management, will this zero tolerance policy apply to your admins who post anti-american nonsense like this:

    http://www.rlslog.net/aliens-in-america-s01e01-preair-dvdrip-xvid-wslr/

and in so doing resort to name calling and insulting your page viewers iq ?

zero tolerance right ? banned forever ? waiting

  148. July 28th, 2007 | 00:10

    Its simple IMHO.
(and yes i agree there is far to much site posted here thats completly off topic).

IMHO the only way to resolve this is to have a registration policy to allow posting. Limit posts to a certian amount with a rating system for Video Quality/ Audio Quality/ for films. Audio quality for music. Games could be along the lines of, ease to get running (as diff games require diff amounts of knowladge and time to get working) Dose it work ect ect. If this was done in the same way you vote using the current star system it would take all of 1 min for users to input valuable info relating to game/film/music ect and would also be very easy for users wanting to find info out about a certian title.

Please input something streamlined like this for ease of use. This would cut out on many flame wars ect and every time someone rates a certian title it would be informative and not the dribble that many users seem to enjoy inputting.

Last but not least. Thanks to RLSLOG for the job they have been doing till now. I appreciate being able to come here and use the RSS feeds to keep tabs on the current situation relating to multimedia.

Make Money Fast by Transforming 6 Dollars into Thousands of Dollars

Here’s a legal way to supplement your income by earning thousands of dollars using the standard mail delivery service.
IT WAS PROVEN on Oprah and is COMPLETELY LEGAL!

You Can Laugh at Money Worries if You Follow This Simple Plan!
This is an opportunity for people who would like to work at home, and is an opportunity for them to invest time to get the lifestyle they have been wanting!

READ ON: Read this entire message carefully! (Print it out or download it.)
I found this on a bulletin board, and decided to try it.

Step 1: Get 6 separate one dollar bills, get 6 pieces of paper and write the following on the paper PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST. Wrap each dollar bill in each note, and include your name and address. Next mail the envelopes to the six people on the list.
Step 2: Now take the number 1 name off the list below, and move the other names up (6 becomes 5, 5 becomes 4, 2 becomes 1, etc.) Make sure to add your name as number 6 on the list.
Step 3: Now post your article to at least 200 newsgroups and message boards. The more you post the more responses you’ll get, and the more money you’ll make!
DIRECTIONS TO POST: (1)=open a blank word processor file(MS Word, Notepad, etc.), and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the edit menu select paste. Past a copy of this letter onto the word processor document so you can add your name to the list. (2)=save your new word processor file as text file. (3)=Log on to search engines like yahoo.com, google.com, altavista.com, excite.com, etc. then you search with the subject “money making message board”, “millionaire message board” or “money making forum” etc. (4)=Visit these message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the text of the letter and selecting paste from the edit menu, paste it. Fill in the subject, this will be the header that everyone will see as they scroll through the list of the posted groups. Click the post button, submit button, etc. You are done with the first one! Just copy and paste the same letter to the other groups. It will take about 30 seconds for each group. Remember the more newsgroups or message boards you post the more money you will make! You have to post a minimum of 200. That’s it! You will be soon be receiving money from all over the world, you may eventually need to rent a P.O. Box due to the large amount of mail you will be receiving. If you want to stay anonymous, you can make up a name to use, as long as the postman will deliver it. Just make sure all addresses are correct. When your money begins to come in, give it the first 10 percent to charity with spirit and share a good fortune!
