Thief 1981 WS DVDRip XviD-AXIAL

Another oldie came online by AXIAL a few hours ago. “Thief” with James Caan. For me the isunknown but maybe for some of you it’s really known. I would like to hear some suggestions of you about this film so we can help out our fellow readers that haven’t seen this film, me included. Enjoy!

In Thief, James Caan plays Frank, a professional jewel thief who wants to marry Jessie (Tuesday Weld) and settle down into a normal life. In order to achieve his dream of a family, Frank–who is used to working solo–has to align himself with a crime boss named Leo (Robert Prosky), who will help him gain the money he needs to begin his domestic life. Frank plans to retire after the heist, yet he finds himself indebted to Leo and he struggles to break free. Thief is the first feature film from director Michael Mann and it seethes with his stylish, atmospheric direction. Though his cool approach may put off some viewers, it’s a distinctive and effective story-telling approach, and Caan’s performance ranks among his very best, making Thief a crime movie like few others.

Awesome, awesome movie from Michael Mann. If you haven’t seen this flick yet, it’s definitely worth a download.

James Caan is his usual badass self and Willie Nelson of all people has a really strong cameo appearance. I remember when this movie originally came out, a lot of cops were pissed because of the way the heist scenes were done. This film at certain times can pretty much be viewed as a text book on how to break into a safes.

Treat this movie, as a prequel to his crime epics Heat and Collateral. You’ll notice a few similar themes and plot devices as well.

This is one of my all time favorites. Thief is such a great movie and the soundtrack is amazing, in fact I have had the record for many years. Tangerine Dream have done some fine work, if you ever get a chance to purchase the record do it!
The movie is great; the American Dream is really just a dream for most people even in America.
This poor bastard (James Cann) tries his best to do the right thing and ends up spending a great deal of time in jail where he meets up with his mentor (Willie Nelson) who teaches him how to achieve the American Dream. While making his dream come true thieving diamonds, James Cann runs into a fellow who wants to make James into an employee, your typical master slave relationship. You know hire the fellow who has a reason to come to work and pay him just enough so that he will have to come to work tomorrow.
This movie goes into great detail showing not just how James Cann and James Belushi try and get their share of the American Dream, it also shows how all the institutions are design to make you pay for the privilege of living, that in fact the reason for these institutions are not to serve you, but rather the other way around. I could go on and on, but I suggest you watch for yourself.
I’ve had this movie on VHS for a long time, and now I’ll have it on DVD, sweet!

Great movie, intense well acted and directed and tangerine dream did the score. The Keep is also by Michael Mann with tangerine dream also doing the score but this is one of the first sci fi / horror movies and I recommend the director’s cut.

According to IMDB & Amazon this DVD has 5.1 audio, why did they use the Stereo AC3 track? Still it was on my ‘to watch’ list, thanks.

@ trudodyr, I did find a download of The Keep but for some reason it did not convert to DVD file…. I’ve keep it in it’s original format… I do hope the keep will be released in DVD or HDDVD.

As for the Party, just when and were.

    Mike, party at your house?

Can anyone explain why the music played at the very end and over the credits at the end is NOT on any Tangerine Dream album that I can find?

Someone please tell me it is!
