The King of Kong LIMITED DVDSCR XviD-NEPTUNE

This should interest a large proportion of the rlslog readership, since its about video games. Heh. it follows some old skool gamers as they try to beat each others top scores in classic video games such as Donkey Kong. Good old scene group Neptune are the ones to bring us this little known documentary and because its in DVDSCR form everything looks and sounds great in terms of of quality. Definitely give this a go if your interested in video games or documentaries or both! This release comes on 1 CD with the great addition of AC3 sound, this really makes the difference if you have a decent speaker system. The NFO doesn’t mention any black and white scenes or property messages but from the samples its clean, hopefully it stays that way throughout.

Plot: In 2003, 35 year old family man Steve Wiebe, after losing his job at Boeing, found solace in Donkey Kong. Steve stumbled upon Billy Mitchell’s record online, and set out to break it. He began perfecting his game every night after his wife and kids went to bed, and not only surpassed Billy’s record, but ended up with a thought-to-be-impossible 1,000,000 points. A tidal wave of media coverage followed, and Steve Wiebe quickly became a celebrity in his hometown of Seattle, WA. He also rediscovered his love for teaching, and regained the respect of all who once doubted him. Meanwhile, back in Hollywood, FL, Billy Mitchell hatched a plan to reclaim his fallen Donkey Kong record… In the months that followed, Steve and Billy engaged in a cross-country duel to see who could set the high score that would be included in the 2007 Guinness World Records’ book and become The King of Kong. Along the way, both men learned valuable lessons about what it means to be a father, a husband, and a true champion… discovering that you don’t always need to win to be a winner.

Craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my life, watching this is so depressing, watching people try to be the Record Holders for the Donkey Kong arcade game bloody nuts, it is seriously messed up, but if these guys are this passionate about it, give them a round of applause…

This is yet another version of the “working print” of the film not the real thing. It’s still missing many scenes from the final cut and is edited much different from the version that is currently being shown in theaters.

yeah theres been a copy of this since August, well thats when i got a copy of this.

Comment 25…., how different could it be, 1 nerd trying to break another nerds record! Did they throw in some Matrix style action scenes or some nudity huh?!! Maybe a Cameo by Tom Jones or something? mario himself?

Anyway, the version i got 4 months ago was good and well worth the download if you like to laugh at geeks.

Well it sucks cause Billy Mitchel beated Steve Wiebe back in 6/26/06 with a score of 1,050,200 (Wiebe’S score was 1,049,100)

So.. that douchebag Mitchel is still the best…

The entire movie is completely one sided. If you want the truth about Billy Mitchel and Steve Wiebe:
http://www.digitpress.com/ - go to Forums, Classic Gaming, then the thread called “Billy Mitchell reclaims Donkey Kong world record”

It reveals a lot about how the producers manipulated Steve and Billy’s situation to make Mitchel seem like a douchebag and Wiebe seem like a hero.

I saw the “working print” a few months ago. it was awesome. It makes me mad how hard that guy had to work just to get his high score.

@13 the movie is not from 2003, In the plot outline they mention 2003, the movie itself takes place from 2005 to the end of 2006, you can see the dates as the records are being set.

Mario was a carpenter before he was a plumber and his name was Jumpman i read. How riveting was that bit of info.

Saw these comments at tpb, its there a final retail dvdrip released?

“This is not the final version of the film. It’s a working print and there are several scenes missing as well as many editorial changes. Still good though if you haven’t seen the real thing”

“I’ve now seen the movie and I can confirm that this is a WORKPRINT.
It’s obvious in the end when instead of showing a list of the ppl who made the movie it shows tags like “credit1, credit2, credit crawl”.”
