The Fountain TS XViD – DaNGeRoUs

This is one of those great movies that are disliked by most people simply because they didn’t get it. The reason why this is such a great movie is because it’s filmed like art. Of course movies ARE art ever since the ’30s but there are only a few modern movies that were filmed in this way. You could make a screenshot of a few key scenes and it’d look like a masterpiece painting. What people don’t get is the confusing way in which repeating scenes are placed through different times, which in my opinion is the whole reason why this movie’s got such a high rating on IMDB but it’s that same reason that makes most people who saw it dislike it simply because they weren’t able to piece all the pieces of the puzzle together. More a case of mass-stupidity then a too complex storyline. Did anyone get The Matrix the first time they saw it? I didn’t, I had to piece it together in my head after watching it but did people mind that? No because it had cool special effects and martial arts fighting scenes. Do not expect this in The Fountain!

Spanning over one thousand years, and three parallel stories, The Fountain is a story of love, death, spirituality, and the fragility of our existence in this world.

“Did anyone get The Matrix the first time they saw it?”

Ummm… You’re kidding, right? An excruciatingly simple storyline with some great effects and a lot of regurgitated gnostic babble thrown in. What exactly is there to get?!?

That aside, any movie someone feels compelled to defend with the classic “Everyone but me is too stupid to get it!” should be avoided like the plague. Films are supposed to be entertainment, not classes in advanced quantum mechanics. If indeed the intended audience cannot adequately grasp a film, it is the fault of the filmmaker for being a poor communicator. That is not usually the case, however, almost invariably the “Everyone’s too dumb to get it!” is the call of a fan who is incapable of looking past whatever it is in the work that speaks to them to see the, generally terminally obvious, reasons it does not speak to a wider audience.

it’s not always the film makers fault if someone doesn’t understand that film – they might just be watching the wrong kind of Movie.

“Films are supposed to be entertainment, not classes in advanced quantum mechanics.” Could I get a source for this statement or is this just your opinion, because unless there’s been a new international law passed there is no reason a film cannot be intelligent and not merely entertaining.

Some films are too complex to appeal to a wider audience, this is not necessarily a fault of the film maker – it simply means that the film is too complex for Joe Bloggs to understand. However Jane Bloggs does understand and appreciate it.

There is a definite line between Entertainment and Art in Film. There are also films that bridge Entertainment and Art having routes in both popular culture and intelligent debate.

As unlikely a film as it seems The Matrix is significant for several reasons including it’s discussion of modern theology. If it’s too simple for you then booyah, don’t watch it. However the matrix has proven to be a film that changed the direction of modern cinema and which has been much discussed on many levels. This brings it into the realm of art. Therefore it is not impossible for a film to be pop culture & art.

You also seem to lumping the comments of the blog poster with the intent of the film maker. If a film goer says “I’m the only one who understood this film” it does not mean that the director is party to this comment.

Lastly, why should films be easy to understand? Indeed why should any story be simple? The beauty of cinema for me has always come from the challenge of unravelling the hidden meanings within a film. That does not necessitate making the film completely unintelligible but there is certainly no reason to “dumb down” modern cinema so it can be appreciated by the biggest possible audience.

    @ YeahRight
That makes sense. Even NOVA episodes are geared so the normal person can understand them, even though the content is still usually higher IQ .

  5. December 7th, 2006 | 16:39

@YeahRight: What a load of bull! Nowhere did I state that I was the only person in the world that understood the movie. And yes, movies are there to entertain and when looking at the IMDB rating it would seem it entertained a lot of people. It entertained me by being so complex. And the fact that you think The Matrix consists out of a lot of talking and some fighting already indicates that you couldn’t even get your dimwitted head around that movie.

Why should script writers limit their talents just because 80% of the people that will see his script in action are too stupid to get it. In that case we’d better make school tests and finals REALLY easy just to be sure everyone gets it so no one feels like they were too stupid to get all the questions. Dumb ass…

    December 7th, 2006 | 20:39

@YeahRight: You must keep in mind that everyone has a bit of reason in their remarks, Kevin never said that he was the only one who got this movie, he was just revolted at people always seeming to prefer simpler, even dumb, movies. However movies do appeal to different people at different times, most importantly people must be prepared to the kind of movie they’re watching. Sometimes people are happy to see lots of things explode or to watch a nice romantic comedy not unlike every other one (I know I do). Other times they prefer to feel fulfilled by a movie that makes them question their values or believes. Also Kevin was very young when he saw The Matrix for the first time which was one of the reasons for him not to get at first, and you probably never stopped to see the how that story sets a dark shadow over the possible future of mankind, and that is one of yours.

@Kevin: Try to be more (and this is just an advice) open to comments after all that’s why this feature exists. People are not necessarily stupid for not liking a complex movie, there are a variety of reasons for this, they most probably were mislead to watch that particular movie or they might not know enough of the subject to understand it. Finally that dumb ass line was uncalled for.

Don’t take this too personally, just expressing my opinion, not trying to offend anyone;)

  10. December 7th, 2006 | 22:53

Credits to Vasc for keeping his cool and staying neutral. I was indeed very young when I saw The Matrix but even the guys that were to approve the script (the studio suits) had to read the script 3 or 4 times before it started to make sense. I like movies with a deep philosophy in it and this is one of those. If you prefer to watch Chuck Norris and Steven Segall then what the hell are you doing in the cinema watching this movie when you KNOW there’s not going to be any brainless action with plots as thin as freakin’ paper.

Anyways, I’m easily offended when someone defies my logical explanations when there’s no way it could be the other way around.

aside with the movie and their comments….will you stop spamming your homo forum on this blog? your annoying and spamming threads, which this isn’t the first thread I already seen that damn link. Kevin or some other admin, clear this thread or others of junk. You got a comment bad or good, fine..if it relates to the thread post it. If you are clearly spamming the thread with nothing to do with it, your post should be deleted.

as for this movie? its a beautiful movie, which has some depth to the story, so yes…thinking is involved. Just because you don’t understand something or you don’t like, doesn’t make your opinion correct. I’ve enjoyed watching this movie very much. just some food for thought people.

Although i did watch the cam, so I’m hoping this version has better quality, any chance torrent be up soon, and some screenshots?

i saw this movie in the theater not knowing anything about it and and was surprised on how good it was. 3 stories in 3 different time periods but the futuristic one was cool to me and the end of the conquistador too.. was some trippy shit.. watch it but this is a theater watch or dvd to feel the full affects of the cinematography. chuuch 8 out of 1.0 for me

This situation is very simple; unless you are the person responsible for the various contents of the movie, there is no reason for you to take the nay opinions of other movie-viewers so personally.

And what exactly bends people so out of shape about “someone else’s” opinion of a movie, song, book, etc? How perfect and worry-free is your existence that you can get so wound up over somebody else’s opinion of a movie?

Also, there’s the “art” angle. “Some” of you people need to know something. It’s all art. From “Sleepaway Camp” to “Eraserhead”, from “Chopping Mall” to “El Topo”; it’s ALL art. There’s no expressly outlined list of criteria that, by default, makes something art. You may as well compare Picaso’s work with the macaroni and construction paper projects 5-year-olds lovingly make in tribute to their parents.

I’m sorry, but I opened this page and started reading it because I thought that maybe I’d find out a little more about a movie called “The Fountain”, but instead I walked into yet another battle of who’s more culturally advanced. I like to look up the word of the moviegoer instead of the critic for the same reason most others do, but it seems like every time I do, all I find is lovers of the film calling everyone else an idiot and haters of the film calling everyone else a faggot.

Can’t anyone just talk about the damn movie?

This movie seems to be a very visual experience. The movie clips I’ve seen are stunning. I’ll wait for the dvdimage to show up to get the most out of it.

Films arent just films, i study films at a univeristy, and more of todays movies are more art than “movie”, personally, i both like easy films, but also deep films, that encourage the viewer to think for themself :)

    December 8th, 2006 | 14:46

the matrix 1 to “dontknowjhowmanymoretheymaketomakemore$” was one of the dumbest movies I have ever seen…

if you want to see a film that questions everything and is not to understand, watch “lost highway” it was made to not understand it…lol

haven’t seen it yet. but good or extraordinary cinematography doesn’t make a bad film good and it most certainly make it arty. but you really got me curious about it. it’s a pity that I will never see it in the cinema here. so I will have to watch it on my shitty notebook screen.

keep up the good work. love the blog

plz give me a torrent. I,m really eager to watch this. I certainly hope the quality is ok! ABout the discussion, taste is individual. I know what I like, so I don,t really care about other peoples view.,but still it,s funny to see how worked up some guys get over different views about movies. hehe..but alot of sensible things were also said. I agree that we should discuss the movie the FOuntain, instead of namecalling and the I know more than U attitude.
And I,m not american, thank god!! no offense, but it,s the truth.

Other than that rlslog.net is my one and only homepage. Good work kevin and crew with the site. it rocks!!

If you think this comment thread is bad, you should have a scan of the IMDB boards. What a bunch of whining, petty, anal-retentive twats you’ll find there (now I know how wars start – over movies).
Probably all Americo-limey moron skunk pussies! Ha!

Well I hope this film won’t hurt my brain like that Pooh’s Heffalump Movie. I’m still trying to work out that convoluted plot-line and characterization. :)

I just got back from the cinema and all I can say about “The Fountain” is that it charmed me. It’s very artistic, detailed and hard worked philosophical experience. And yes – I’d agree that this is not the movie for everyone. Some might not catch the drift and bail out or get bored. The storyline seems broken and misleading, but it’s just a first impression. In fact – it’s not a very difficult movie, but it’s definetely beautiful. It makes you think. It makes you wonder. It gives you a dustbit of transcendence.

I’d give 95 pts in 100 pts scale
