installed DT pro aswell, i read about the Virtual IDE, but i cant seem to get it to work i mounted like i did with normal DT but it still wants CD, is there a option i might have forgotten in DT pro ? if someone has some good clues we’d love to hear them.

not to be ungrateful, but why release it when 90% downloading it cant get it to work without being a rocket scientist, or a nuclear physicist. guess its good when someone can slap a crack together.
I think I found the source of my problem – http://www.daemonpro-help.com/index.php?id=tools_menu#c151 There are instruction on how to add new virtual device it DT PRO. But in my version (Win x64), there isn’t that choice between SCSI or IDE type of device…I have there only “add virtual drive”, not “Add Virtual IDE Drive” or “Add Virtual SCSI Drive “..So I guess, it’s the difference between 32 and 64bits DT PRO…Since it has to be mounted in IDE drive, we, who are using 64b version of DT can’t solve this, so we’ll have to wait for fixed exe, or something…
Well it also says that Virtual IDE adapter is implemented only in DAEMON Tools Pro Advanced version, i have DT PRO only so i’ll try with advanced and let you know

4 expand the IDE Adapter and select a channel or open the full interface, go to the menu Tools->Add IDE virtual Drive.

also you cannot mount an image on a raid configuration.
Is it recommended to remove any other versions of DT before installing DT pro? I’d prefer not having any kind of virtual driver collisions.
@heresmyname: Well, the first 6 books were published before “Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain” release in late 1997 so I suppose that it is more accurate to say that the setting and the story of “Blood Omen…” remind of the books…

yeah, you need a “spezial” dt pro , where you can choose “scsi or ide disc” to mount. buuut it doesn’t work to install. so we must waiiit until a crack comes or a dt pro that works
DTPro is working for me, so far. It’s installing as we speak.
Make sure you create an IDE drive using DTPro, and mount the image on that one.
Every link to every copy of Daemon Tools Pro, advanced, etc. has led me to a file with at least one, but most often TWO trojan horses embedded.
Anyone have a link to a clean file?
I downloaded DT Pro, mounted the game in IDE drive, played the prolouge, and after the cut scene the game stops accepting the DVD. I mounted it again, loaded the last cutscene and it crashed at the same spot.

Ok i finally found out why DTPro crack didn’t work it did not care about windows language version and created a directory c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ which is fine if you have english windows if not you should move the DAEMON Tools Pro folder inside to proper location which was in my case c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Dane aplikacji\ and it works great afterwards

Just move a file dtpro.dat located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Daemon tools pro\ Theri’s a hidden folder in All Users (dunno what is the name in EN, cause I have CZ WinXP, but it’s something like data application…), create folder \Daemon tools pro\ here and copy the dat file…
But the no-cd mini-image doesn’t work at all…
Succesfully patched, everything mount-able mounted, but it still wants 2 insert original DVD…
Anyone, pls, do you know about some other program, that is able to create virtual IDE drive??Because I have XP x64 and here the DT pro advanced don’t have the IDE drive (it’s greyed and in the release txt, it’s written, that the virtual IDE doesn’t work under XP 64), so I thought maybe some other program exists? I found a working DT Pro Advanced! Just got the game running.
OK, everyone who wants to get the game working, follow these steps:
1. Download Daemon Tools Advanced from this torrent:

3. Then move the file daemon.tools.pro.patch.exe to your The Witcher folder. Open it and click the “patch”-button.
4. Open DT Pro Adv, select the menu Tools -> Add IDE Virtual Drive.
5. Mount The Witcher image on that drive, install and play the game.
Thats what i did. The torrent with Daemon Tools is, for me, spyware-clean. I have AVG 7.5, and it didnt detect anything.
edit: ofcourse move the daemon.tools.pro.patch.exe to your Deamon Tools Pro Advanced folder in step 3, not your The Witcher folder. :]

scanned dtpro file linked by martin, the install seems ok, but the crack came up on two scanners as malware, one of the scanners being f-secure. it was fine on 29 other virus scanners

Interesting, seems like a hit and miss, for me the games works perfectly fine with Daemon Tools 4.10 (regulare free) and mounted with default options, even after the v1.1 patch, my system is not very new, but the game still runs playable at 1024×768, medium detail settings, win XP SP2, AMD2500, nforce2 mobo, Nvidia6800 OC, my DVD drive is behind a sil0680 Raid controller, maybe that helps (i used that for starforce 3.7+ games – so no unplugging was needed back then)
didnt even need yasu or anything else, game just works fine, anyone else able to report? , many of the DT Pro Advanced releases are getting a suspicous warning from http://www.virustotal.com or jotti’s scanner, the story about AVG scanner up to Oct 26 10:00pm AVG was reporting a trojan in the crypto dll’s and patches for DT Pro advances, with an overnight update to the virus definitions that has been removed, possible options are that AVG team reviewed the files that had been submitted and decided it was indeed a false positive, but still nothing is %100, still ALL the DT Pro advanced release have a suspicious file accoring to virustotal, which uses lots of different engines, try it out for yourself, anyways Im going to take it easy now and play the game for a while, enjoy!

Ok, it’s becoming embarassing to ask. But does anyone have the problem that DT Pro Advanced does not offer the option to add a virtual IDE drive? I finally got it installed, splash screen and “about” say its .0218 Advanced Edition, but in DT Pro the option just isn’t there and in the tray bar tool the IDE option is grayed out. Anyone else experiencing that problem?
Discard my last comment. If you don’t have the option to add a virtual IDE drive, in DT Pro go to Tools -> Virtual Device Manager. Start the IDE service there. Et voilà.

i still cant get it to work, mounted with daemon tools advanced on an ide drive, even disabled scsi, no luck.. it still says the drive is empty after mounting
I couldn’t get the image to mount at all on any of my computers. Both daemon tool and alcohol froze xp and vista on mounting. I read that DT and alcohol have problems with ICH8R, chipsets speacially on RAID, ( like my P5B deluxe ). Tried a usb drive – didn’t work. I finally got it to mount by putting the image on a networked drive and mounting that.
Hope this helps some people.

Ok, so I’ve read this thread and a lot of forums on how to get this to work. I’m using Win XP with Danish language and according to the forums I should download DT Pro, patch it, remove the DTPro.dat file found in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data into the folder in which DT Pro has been installed. My problem is that this folder just have not been created! I’ve searched for the file DTPro.dat and it doesn’t exist on my pc. What can I do?
(The folders that do exist in my ‘All Users’ folder are ‘Delte Dokumenter’ (Shared Documents), ‘Foretrukne’ (Preferred), ‘Menuen Start’ (Start Menu), and ‘Skrivebord’ (Desktop).
Any help is appreciated.

At beginning I had the same problem like u.
I also tested different DT Pro Advanced packages and with the following package and exactly following the instructions in the readme it worked! I would uninstall and delete all files from your installed DT Pro’s and then do it like described in the readme in the rar-archive.

When i mount the image (i did everything right.. mounting in IDE Drive, and so on) and i always get the message: The disk might be corrupted, or it could be usining a format that is not compatible with windows… wtf??
How can i open the image?

I get the same error. I never had the problem of not being able to add an IDE drive. I can successfully run several other ISO’s through the vIDE drive in DT Pro.
I only have a problem mounting the ptn-wit.mdf. When mounted nothing auto starts and when i select ‘load’ DT Pro tells me ‘Windows cannot read format his disk..’
For those of you having the same problem I was. There is a .mds file in the ptn-twit.rar file. Make sure to open the ptn-twit.rar file, not the ptn-twit00.rar which is at the top of the folder. This will allow you t extract both the .mds and .mdf files.

everyone that got the game to work fine or has problem, post their CPU (Intel or AMD) and operating system, so we can see if there is a pattern, I have AMD2500, Win XP 32bit, game works FINE with DT basic, mounted on default drive (SCSI), no ide, with 1.1 patch
for those of you that has the problem of mounting, im gettting the english-only version that takes 3.5 gb, if it works ill let you know.
@Cinamon – good idea! I have XP x64 and the game still wants me to insert original DVD..The problem is, that even with DT Pro Advanced, I can’t use virtual IDE drive. It’s even written in the specs of the program, that on the 64bit systems the virtual IDE is NOT supported..So that’s the pattern you tried to find

I’m not sure about your problem, but I heard that changing the hardware and stuff will affect Daemon Tools. Try the official Daemon Tools forum perhaps?

My problem is strange…Alcohol 120% also crashes my system, but only with the mini-images for The Witcher (I got 3 of that). In DT Pro and Alcohol I can mount every other image, but not this one. Strange, isn’t it?
And in the course of changing my hardware i formatted and installed my system new…clearly with new drivers and so on.
And because there’s also no crack I can’t play the game.
@Couple of Questions:
DT Pro is not the only software…there is “Alcohol 120%” (which is usable) and also other programs, but these you can leave out.

Not to worry, I am guessing that you are not the only one having issues with DTPro or the witcher. The game is still wanted by many gamers despite the nasty load times. I am sure someone will produce a proper cracked verison within the next couple of weeks.
I myself have 0xc000005 application errors and cant load DTPro. So, I have given up for now and spend my time pissing around on Hellgate for kicks.

Your system is pretty much the same as mine and yes the graphics are plain, nothing flashy. But its something new seeing that the witcher is damn near impossible to get up and running right.
yep. us 64-bit OSers have to wait for a crack that looks like its never coming. the big ripper groups are busy on other rlses.

Worked with deamontools pro advanced… The game started good after installation… but it will not start after I exited the game and wantd to play agan.

Here is a solution for those who didn’t get this working by mounting;
I used an IDE drive and the mounting didn’t work, it kept saying unknown.
I downloaded the dopeman release. The dopeman release is a release of the witcher with only the english language available, zipped into 3gb while extracted to 7(!) gb.
It is not the installation but its the game itself with all the needed components required for the game I.E directX, vs_redist, etc, that you need to install to run the game.
All you have to do is mount the image over there on an IDE drive and even though it will say unknown, all you need to do is run the game. No installation required, works for me, and its also updated to 1.1.

Looks like the NOCD/NODVD patch above works. However I have the Dopeman ripped release version of The Witcher http://www.mininova.org/tor/969465 this is with the 1.1a
To make this crack work I had to move my files to \Program Files folder (didn’t have to be in C:\Program Files) it worked on one of my partitions in the Program files folder; for example N:\Program Files\The Witcher
Most importantly the game must be started from the launcher.exe file NOT the witcher.exe file

Now that I think of it, is there any other programs that will do the same functions and formats that DT does in order to get the game working?
I’m totally lost as what to do now that I have it downloaded. I thought it was going to be a simpple RAR to unpack and play.
I don’t know if this lite allows screenshots, but could someone put up the steps on how to get this working, with screenshots?
Is there a way to uncompress the files to a folder so that the install and other associated files can be burned to a DVD so I don’t have to run the game off of DT? I’m just trying to save on disc space.

This is driving me crazy. I’ve searched everywhere. Tried everything.
I’m currently using the Witcher-CLONEDVD PLATIN image.
I’ve installed DT Pro (latest), created a vIDE and tried to mount it. With all that it still doesn’t run and gives “Unknown”/”Can’t access”.
I’ve tried all versions of DT Pro, I’ve even got MagicIso to try to burn it on a DL DVD still it can’t access the image.
Seems several ppl have been having this problem. If anyone has a solution please let me know ASAP.
NB: I’m currently running Vista 64bit Ultimate
http://www.gamecopyworld.com has cracks for all versions, just go check there… No need to mount images and stuff. I’m currently using v1.2 of Witcher with the crack, and it runs fine!

I downloaded THIS TORRENT. The one we’re talking on now.
I also downloaded Alcohol 120%, the newest I could find, as I’m using a two-years-old one.
I mounted it to the virtual drive. Installed the program.
I then updated to 1.1a (Must be 1.1a, not 1.1) and d/led the crack.
I couldn’t start it from Alcohol or the desktop, so I went to MY COMPUTER and went straight to the drive and right-clicked “Autorun”
The launcher came up. I played the game.
That’s what I do everytime. No issues.
Does anyone know what the key for registering this game is? I assume the one who made this file also got the manual that came with the game, and it’s on the inside front or back cover. If not, is there a program to create a key?
i was able to mont the image with dameaon pro but wen i click on setup.exe it says microsaoft c++runtime error abnormal program terminiation then i tried to copy files in to my hardisk and running it from there it gave me a message windows xpsp2/IE netscape and some crap does it wont work on windows xp or u need sp2 to work it also can some1 send following files to my email adress pls vcredist_x64.exe,witcher.ico,_setup.dll and following files from system folder,witcher.exe and witcher.ini

Enhanced Edition?
I have Usenet, but a 19 GB version is on pirate bay, I’m not sure about it though, seems really doubtful. It’s always on Usenet first.
Yes, saw the 19GB version, it appears real as it contains the audio and video extras that the Enhanced Edition comes with. You can deselect these of course and just download the game which appears as two .mdf files (~7GB and 3GB). Surprised it’s not up here on Releaselog yet.
What I’m really surprised is that no one has uploaded it to Usenet! I hate using bit torrent. I mean, nothing beats downloading files at 2,000 Kpbs.

The original game doesn’t take that long to load but the enhanced version looks pretty good. Pity it is so large and no one bothered to compress it. Also the system requirements are hardly anything to worry about. If you are still playing games on a PC that won’t run this, it’s about time you should buy another PC and while your at it buy this game as the team deserve your cash.
