Here are the veterans from mVs bringing us new DVDSCR release. This movie it’s about the hip-hop culture in New York in 1994. If you like this culture, you will enjoy this film!

Its the summer of 1994, and the streets of New York are pulsing with hip hop and wafting with the sweet aroma of marijuana. The newly-inaugurated mayor, Rudolph Giuliani, is only beginning to implement his anti-fun initiatives against crimes like noisy portable radio, graffiti and public drunkenness.

The Wackness centers upon a troubled high school student named Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck)a teenage pot dealer who forms a friendship with Dr. Jeffrey Squires (Ben Kingsley), a psychiatrist and kindred lost soul. When the doctor proposes Luke trade him weed for therapy sessions, the two begin to explore both New York City and their own depression.

Propelled by an exuberant hip hop score, The Wackness captures the spell of 1994–a time of pagers, not cell phones; a time when Tupac and Biggie were alive but Kurt Cobain had just died. Funny and moving, The Wackness is an offbeat tale of two lost souls stumbling towards maturity.

    warning to anyone that downloads this: this is not the version in theaters now. it’s a completely different cut. it runs quite a bit longer and has placeholder opening credits and visual effects. i noticed tons of footage NOT in the version in theaters now (a lot more famke janssen). and oddly, i noticed some footage in the theater version that are not in this one (ie: a gratuitous josh peck ass shot). it’s kind of cool to see this festival cut, but just know that it’s a different movie than what was eventually finished.

    @68 – yeah. the ass shot is in the shower. but i’m pretty sure there’s an ADDITIONAL ass shot in the theater version. i also think that shower scene was a bit longer in the theatrical version and it definitely did not have that cut to famke janssen smoking a cigarette with ben kingsley on the floor. anyway, it’s definitely awesome that this was released as it seems drastically different.

    @72 – the start is the same (though the theatrical version has a much shorter subway opening credits scene), but the ending is pretty different.

    @78 – It’s the full movie, the screener was just sent out before they finished making the credits. Or even before they finished editing from the looks of it. I’m going to wait for an official DVDRip too though, I wanna see how the other ending was.

    Still a VERY good movie, either way, for anyone that grew up in the 90’s ;)

    @88 – That would be 2 hours and 24 mins and I don’t see that runtime listed anywhere for this movie. The runtimes listed on IMDB, including credits, are 110mins (studio?) and 95mins for US theaters.

    I’m assuming this is the 110min cut, but missing the intro and credits — making it just under 6 minutes shorter.
