I hate talking to the computer. I've already tried out some very advanced speech recognition programs like Dragon Naturally Speaking, which is intelligent enough to remove pauses like "er.." or "uhm.." etc, and it doesn't even require training. But I unistalled it in a week. Why? The novelty wore off, and it was a tad too irritating and tiresome "talking" to my computer. I work on the PC all day long, but I definately can't talk all day long. Maybe its better suited to someone who's into talking, like say commentators or call center guys.

@Piss: How will the Minority Report way of using your entire arm, hand and all individual fingers be better for older people when compared to a simple mouse? :P

yes, i want a new input system with the new os. i'll be like really old by that time. so, keyboard and mouse won't cut it for us old folks. make it like the computer interaction in minority report. you move stuff on the computer with your hands (replacing the mouse) and command with your voice (replacing keyboard). pc gaming would probably controlled with your hands. imagine playing an rts game and selecting the troops with your hands. too cool.

Why even bother with new OS's? The current OS's are more than adequate for anything we need.
Maybe if they invented some new technology like monitors that could project images in midair, or goggles that sense head movement and alter the image accordingly, or some other shit like that then we would have need of a new operating system that would accomidate these things. But as it stands now, new OS's are just a waste of money.

I dunno I can't see Vienna being the next generation of operating systems. Voice Recognition has a very very long way to go before it can be used as a primary form of navigation around an OS.

As for me, Windows 2000 is my stopping point of using windows. I don't play many games but use it because the programs I love use it. After Win2k becomes obsolete I will migrate to Linux, or something else if it's available by then. It will take a lot of getting used to but I can finally rid myself of the M$ demons that live in my box.

Hopefully suitable stand-ins for the programs I use will be available to said OS as well.

Old news I'm afraid. Windows Vienna is the new codename for Blackcomb. Blackcomb has been known about for ages (since February 2000). We were supposed to Blackcomb but instead got an intermediatory operating system called Vista. In January 2006 Blackcomb was renamed Vienna. Blackcomb was supposed to be the revolutionary OS everyone wanted and got put back and put back until the last known release date was 2011. You should expect Vienna in 2011. Have a happy 5 years of Vista.
