I promised Bram that I wouldn’t post any HD-releases anymore, because it’s his category. But I could not resist to post this release, so he will kick my ass tonight I guess 
. This movie is one of my favorites… The Shining. And I mean the original from 1980 (the remake from 1997 sucks!). Group SiNNERS brings it to us in HD quality. Enjoy!
Opening with spectacular aerial shots of a beautiful, mountainous landscape, Stanley Kubrick’s horror classic THE SHINING sucks the viewer into his frightening tale with quiet, relaxing visuals–but the ominous sound track warns that all is not right at the gorgeous Overlook Hotel. Based on Stephen King’s best-selling novel, the film stars Jack Nicholson at his eyebrow-raising best in his portrayal of Jack Torrance, a Vermont schoolteacher working at the Overlook as a winter caretaker.
The glorious early-20th century resort only operates in warm weather because the snowy roads deny access in the colder months, so Jack brings his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), with him, as well as his young son, Danny (Danny Lloyd), who possesses some unique psychic powers. As the Torrances settle in for the long, lonely months ahead, strange, unexplainable things start occurring in the hotel–and in every scene Jack seems to be growing a little more evil and dangerous….
Cinematographer John Alcott (who also worked on BARRY LYNDON and A CLOCKWORK ORANGE) allows his Steadicam to float eerily through the deserted halls and corridors of the hotel, creating a creepy air of tension as Jack plummets into madness. Kubrick’s obsessive eye for detail is prevalent throughout; the famous scene where Danny rides his toy buggy through the hotel is remarkable for Alcott’s gliding camerawork and the desolate sound of the wheels alternately scraping across the hardwood and carpeted floors. Nicholson and Duvall are outstanding throughout, with both actors running the full gamut of human emotions as the film races towards a thrilling conclusion. Supplemented by an oddball cast of dead twin girls, suicidal ax-murdering ghosts, Scatman Crothers as the hotel cook, and many other weird and wonderful figures, Kubrick’s film is a pulse-racing treat that is among the best in his inimitable body of work.

Saw this over the summer with my gf at home… Great movie!
but I still don’t understand how 70’s and 80’s movies can have HD video and stuff when the technology wasn’t even done back then! Well I guess the video could be cleared up a bit more… haha! Looks good, guys!
@6: The movies were recorded on film, the film frames are then converted into a digital format at a higher resolution. You’re thinking it’s like taking a photo at higher resolution, it’s not. It’s like scanning a photo, you can scan at insane resoltions and it still looks good because the quality is not bound by pixels.
Because the standard in which many movies back then were shot (35mm or 16mm, dunno) can be telecined into 2000xsomething digital video.
Techncally, 35mm film has a higher ‘resolution’ than even the highest quality hi-def video. They’ve just gone back and rescanned the film elements in greater detail. Its no different from most new movies which are shot on film.

How do they HDize old movies like these since they weren’t shot with numeric cameras?
#12 way to totally ask what’s already been answered twice in comments for this same film, and dozens of times in previous HD release comments. Lets hope you have other attributes to make up for reading comprehension skills.
My issue with these releases is that DVD quality is still very competitive on current gen TV and HDTV screens, and that we’re getting HD and Blue Ray shoved down our throats by manufacturers who seem happy with the format stalemate between the two as long as they can convince people they *must* upgrade to one or the other.
We can tell the difference in DVD vs. HD/BR easily on our PC, because the resolution on a PC monitor is still vastly superior to all but the highest end HDTV sets (N x 720, 900, or 1020). However the majority fall short. DVD is still the sweet spot in the technology race because of cost and quality. This remains true and important especially since there is no clear winner between HD and Blue Ray like there was between 8Track/Cassette, VHS/BM, VHS/DVD, CD/DAT, Mp3/Wav (lol).. etc etc etc.
maybe i’m stupid or something, and maybe i should read all the comments, but can you convert an HD/Blu-ray movie in convertxtodvd, burn it on a regular dvd-r, play it on an hd tv or xbox 360, and get the same quality??? I would appreciate any input.

A very unsettling story, the movie was good but the book was better. I read the book when i was in the 4th grade and my teacher took it away from me and called my mom; my mom gave that old hag a lesson in how the Dutch view US censorship and i got my book back

This is a wicked movie, the remake was OK but it’s got nothing on this OG version. It’s definitely a better book than it was a movie, but I love pretty much all Stephen King so I may be biased haha.

dumb question but can anyone explain me the advantages of x264 formats, will a 720p HDDVD x264 rip be better quality than the “normal” orignal dvd9?
can this superior quality (if its the case) be preserved when converting the HD-rip to dvd? what programs do you use or is that non-sense, and the best way to watch these files is still the PC?

converting a HD rip to dvd will result in loosing the HD res and so make it useless -_-
A x264 format is 50% more efficient from the mpeg2 codec that is used in dvd. so a 4gb x264 is like 8gb mpeg2 and 8 gb is like 16gb. if you convert this to dvd-video you will see it as good as on a regular dvd-video.
