The rotten in Denmark is a reference from "Hamlet" a William Shakespeare book/ play. I think it just highlights the awful things to come in the future of OS as these things become more prevalent.

"Definitely there is a conspiracy going on, and something is rotten in Denmark."

Or would it be considered recieving stolen property?...lol

A non-compete agreement from a lawyer is what im getting (to start with) to protect my project from the greedy paws of the big-wigs. Actually i called to get it 1/2 way threw the artical.

As for the OpenS struggle, i love the base intent for it and i will protect it because it deserves the respect it gives the people who make the inventions the corPIRATE (hehe) world sometimes steals, when they can (sorry its considered good buisness depending on the situation), no matter if its a total conversion like this artical or concept theft (happens alot with games). DONT for a second think this is a new trend!!!!!! Hell, its almost a classic now with special concedes to "grey area" the subject/content to the point of confusion. And you cant hate them for having the $$$ and resources to get it up and at a professional level before the small buisness can take the portion of the market. They in a sense protect themselves from us eventually taking THEM over because our tech is better than the old ideas of the 50's or the 90's, evolution is always going to be a constant and they know it so they buy everything that threatens them (like Zapped or even worse WB!!). Sure WB in a dif. class but the point is made.

I could say alot more about this, i have much more to say but its getting long already and this isnt MY post HEHE

Unfortunately 'common-law' trademarks are no protection.
Australians have been wearing sheepskin boots (long and short) for many yrs - they were known as UggBoots. Pammy Andreson and many other celebs popularised them.
About 10 yrs ago some scumbag in California(?) set up a company to make uggboots (fair enough - he was one of many) BUT then copyrighted the name. Since then he has put many competitors out of business because they advertised 'uggboots' (small generic 'u') not made by "The UggBoot Company" (his company). Many of these companies were small 'ma and pa' businesses run as a profitable sideline to sheep farming - or at least in areas where sheepskin was readily available (such as rural Aust). These people couldn't afford big legal fees - they were sideline businesses - so they complied.

If the a***hole in the Shareaza case gets his copyright then anyone using or selling the Shareaza code (and acknowledging that that is the source code - which is its selling point) will be in breach of that copyright. Bingo.
This must be resisted by all means possible but I am sorry for the Shareaza User Group (the moral 'owners' of the code) I think they have a long and difficult fight ahead of them.

This whole deal smacks of hypocrisy. Infringing rights to a program whose design is to do exactly that; infringe on other rights. Ah the irony. ;-)

I was a Shareaza fan a long time ago, when bittorrent was still in it's infancy. Shareaza may have even helped bittorrent gain some of the popularity that it did back then. G1/G2/Ed2k were all good networks, especially for music and appz. When fakes started to become an issue, sites much like today's torrent sites popped up with MD5 sums of confirmed real releases.

One of the reasons I liked Shareaza was because I managed to figure out how to force it to download without sharing, even though the devs claimed this wasn't possible. This was something that was important to me back then due to the fact that the world was in major legal turmoil at the time, and I certainly didn't want to take any chances with getting sued. Now that the dust has settled some what and the future is a bit clearer, I don't worry quite as much (I only use bittorrent these days, and yes I do seed lol).

Love it or hate it, nobody can deny Shareaza was one more welcome stepping stone on the path to free stuffz, and are part of the history regarding the evolution of file sharing. It will be missed. :-)

Shame I can't donate, no way to transfer money unfortunately but if I could I would have. Now we just need M$ to patent the Linux source code and then demand money from everyone. This company needs to be crushed and hard by a huge movement so that no other company tries this anywhere else in the EU.
