The Roots - Rising Down (2008)

If you listen hip hop you have to know The Roots, a legendary band from Philly. They’re just about to release a new album Rising Down and you can download it right now thanks to group RACEME which pred it one week before the street date. This is a must have for all lovers of ol’ good hip hop and RnB.

Grammy award winning hip-hop trailblazers The Roots are set to release Rising Down on April 29th via Def Jam Recordings. Known for their prolific lyrics and live instrumentation, the Legendary Philadelphia crew is composed of Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter (vocals), Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson (drums), Kamal Gray (keyboards), Frank Knuckles (percussion), Kirk “Captain Kirk” Douglas (guitar) and Owen Biddle (bass). Garnering critical praise throughout their career, The Roots have firmly established themselves as a band with uncompromised artistic control and integrity. With Rising Down, the band’s 10th album release, The Roots continue to take bolder steps adding new depths and range to their repertoire.

The Roots, a.k.a. The Legendary Roots Crew, are an influential, Grammy Award-winning American band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, famed for a heavily jazzy sound and live instrumentation. They made their debut in 1993 and have gone on to collaborate with artists from a range of genres, such as Roy Ayers and Cody Chesnutt. Inspired by Stetsasonic, The Roots themselves have garnered critical acclaim and influenced later beat and R&B acts.

Love how its ok for Blacks to put images of them crushing whites, but not the way around!

Also of note, black people have enslaved, killed and destroyed more blacks than any white slavery ever did throughout history.

But, to blacks, its all whitey’s fault.
As if we put the malt liquor up to their mouthes.
As if we force them not to go to school.
As if we force them to do drugs.
As if we force them to not father their children.
As if we force them to get gold teeth and live on wellfare.

Ya, blame whitey. All the while asians, latinos, midlle eastern folk all seem to thrive here.

@17 shut up ya racist. Stop trying to justify your RACISM with the “oh poor white me” excuse. Its been refuted, White Males rule the earth, and you are wrong. Off topic. Erase his ignorance.

Also, the Roots (aka. THE SQUARE ROOTS, not “The Legendary Roots Crew” as said in the description) have all but fizzled out as the original crew. Black thought sold out his old crew because he got on some holier-than-thou-anti-drug thing (and instead of stickin’ it out for his homies he just bailed on them) and I’m even suprised that ?love decided to do anything with him anymore. His stuff is all over-produced and with the many complex layers of music. Not to say they aren’t talented, but if you are a fan of Organix, or the Roots come alive, or even things fall apart…you won’t dig their new stuff. PHreneology was the beginning of their (his) end…STOP CALLING IT THE ROOTS and call it something new….

When I saw the album cover, I knew the comments section was gonna be full of long diatribes on racism. To your guys’ credit, at least you managed to hold back until #17.

Great post, by the way. Always nice to hear some new joints from The Roots.

Racism? The most racist people on earth are blacks. And why are blacks the biggest problem in ALL countries not just America?

Keep living your denial. While at it, pick up a book called the Belle Curve.

Your facts are all RIGHT THERE.

Nice try Venomhed. The album cover has nothing to do with “crushing whites”. The cover represents the feeling the Confederate Union has towards blacks - if given power they would reek havoc and chaos on the country.
