I like how the only good thing about Windows is the fact they make games for it. If game developers ported all games to Linux would anyone actually use it?

I have Vista and i always wonder why people are saying its bad the way i see it vista is a brand new OS and for windows to work out all the bugs and fix other problems related to what kind of system you have is an enormus task.
They cant test it on all possible types of computer setup right?
And frankly i have vista premium and iv had it since day one and the only problems iv had is campatability issues with som games and programs but i always manage to fix it you just need basic computer know how and if you cant fix basic problems in vista then you truly need a computer lesson an easier OS to figure out dosent exist.
Vista is a very well planed OS if u ask me they have compatability mode that almost always work of course you can run into problems but like i said it dosent take much effort to fix it

BTW i have tried mac hated it and i have tried Linux so i know what im talking about
Sry for my really bad english should have done my homework in english class ^^

WOW, missed that, I ran a search too and all I got were pages of peeps saying no go....

Well that's me off to install... hope it's not all command line, though I am at least willing and able to learn.

Cheers, bud. :)

@ jdizzle1337 : so u r building pcs professionally? and what makes a pro what he is if he doesnt know how to install macosx on a godamm pc man ? and don't tell me its illegal coz all ppl here are illegal one way or the other lol. i am running macosx 10.4.10 on a 380 bucks machine (asrock mobo/radeon1600/core2 1.86ghz/1gb ram) and it even upgrades smoothly. yes its faster than windows (i have 8 windows machines)but still, its not as customizable as windows both for the simple and the power user.
if u are in need of a cheap machine for internet - pix - music than a cheap pc with macosx is a faster/better choice than windows or linux.there are some limitations as to which hardware your machine must have to meet macosx requirements but these are easily met with even the cheapest of mobos/grfx cards as u can see from my aforementioned macosx machine.
So windows vista - yes it rox - but macos is cool too -so i ll take both plz thnx a lot and cheers
PS: try your hacintosh if u got a spare drive - the kalyway rls of 10.4.10 worked for me , ive tried two other uphuck rls but wouldnt work and although this kalyway rls has ingredients of the uphuck rls it was the only one to work on my asrock/ich7 machine

Planescape Torment runs perfect in Linux using Wine:

Just as easy as playing it on a Windohs box ;)

I'd switch to Linux tommorow because of all the work being done to get contmporary games to work on it.. HOWEVER, the ONE game I keep installed 24/7 is PLANESCAPE:TORMENT and that is STILL unable to run on Linux even after all these years... That's the one thing that stops me from switching. :(.. Windows is still the only viable games platform.. shame. :(

i am bi-curious
so i put feisty fawn on an old desktop a few weeks ago. yesterday it updated to gutsy gibbon and i only had to click a few keys.

pros....
any time i have a problem google gives a fix ...so many so helpful people in the community

the new distro automatically turns on a wired network...i can write to my windows ntfs files from ubuntu

cons....
seems you CAN get a logitech laser mouse with many buttons to work, but looks far too complicated for me
ditto for some other peripherals

i like to play with it, but let's face it. so long as we can steal windows for free, why bother to learn another OS

the day microsoft succeeds in its 'verification' crap will be the day everyone turns to linux

Indeed.
Windohs = a proprietary crippled DRM'd platform for PCs
Mac = a proprietary crippled DRM'd platform for crippled DRM'd PCs

Installing mac on a non crippled PC is easy though (it needs a full drive though). It's just not legal and Apple is doing it's best to keep all working howtos ofline.

I'll personally stick with GNU/Linux (Debian and Slackware at home, Red Hat at work).
The only non GNU/Linux system I use is OpenBSD.

for mac users with intel processors, most of us just install xppro on another partition or harddrive.

we just reboot into xp.

for daily stuff that REQUIRES win, vmware fusion rocks. it lets us use that same installation from within the macosx in its own window.

DOH.

Actually Soni Ubuntu attempts to cut through the stereotype that you put forward of the "old" Unix tree. I actually do all of my mission critical business (financial documentation and storage for my business) on my Ubuntu machine. I am looking forward to Gibbon will probably upgrade this weekend. Its a nice respite from the Win environment but WINE doesn't run everything.

As for MAC, yes ICK for now......if Apple decides to loosen its sphincter and release a PC version of OS X (or XI)i think that the OS marketplace could get very exciting. Some VERY nice and revolutionary features in Leopard.

I'm a Vista fan. Why? Not the eye candy, although it's nice. Not the ultimate extras, they are certainly lacking there. It's the finer features such as automatic folder refreshes, larger thumbnail views for pictures, right click on a shortcut and 'open file location' is right there, and all drivers out of the box. Lots little things that make it so much better than XP.

I run mine on a AMD 3500 xp with 1gb ram and no complaints, so as far as people saying it's a resource hog and you need a supercomputer - I say you don't know wtf you're doing.

I've messed around with *nix enough to know that you'll end up spending more time trying to comprehend documentation, figuring out which package you'll need to download, and typing in a console than you do being productive with it.

As for macs - ick.

Decided to see what all the fuss is about. So started to install Ubuntu on my laptop. 3 hrs later... 3rd attempt to install. I get PCI bridge and bios error messages at boot.. and a lovely black screen, with flashing charaters.
I can't see what all the fuss is about.

ok....for the people here who say that pc's are virus magnets, that is soooo wrong. I am a heavy user of the internet (where most of the virus's come from) and I have been attacked *twice*, yes only twice in my whole history of using pc's (10 years). That is because I use something called an ANTIVIRUS soft. surprise. And now you even get awesome free antivirus softs like avast and avg, both of which work great.
