The Rise of Leopard and Gutsy Gibbon…
…or should it be rise of the alternate OSes? Computer users never had such a good time. Spoilt for choices we have a array of OS to power our hardware.
Ubuntu 7.10 Gusty Gibbon was released with a lot of hype and marked the beginning of the return of Linux to Desktop PCs. The big one, Apple OS X Leopard is releasing in 7 days.
Unlike Windows, right from 2000 to XP and XP to Vista, the visual effects and eye candy was significant taking the center stage. Not to mention [enter a number] security fixes. Enter alternate OSes like Mac and Linux, where you can note the significant features and innovation making your PC experience better.
Windows Vista was a let down. In my opinion, XP was Microsoft’s best Windows OS. Succeeding a popular and good OS is always difficult. Plus we’re seeing a delay in Vista SP1. All this makes the proceedings interesting with two new exiting OSes launching with much hype, fanfare and hoopla.
Apple OS X v10.5 “Leopard”
Never a better time to sport a Mac. With the 300+ new features, OS X Leopard goes even further arguably as the World’s most advanced OS.
Leopard was architected from the user in, rather than from core technology out. Known for eye for detail, Leopard should be the most impressive Mac OS X version yet.
What makes it exciting?
Calculations in Spotlight. How many times have you performed calculations in Google? Even though we have a fully functional scientific calculator in Windows, we don’t use it often. Calculations in the spotlight, FTW.
New Look Desktop & Stacks. Being a download junkies, the desktop is cluttered with files. Welcome Stacks with 1 click and the stack springs open, revealing items in an elegant arc or an at-a-glance grid. Did I mention elegant, distinctive new look across the entire system?
DVD Player. Improved Full-Screen Interface, Chapter Thumbnails, Auto Zoom, Parental Control and Video Quality Improvements (technology that applies deinterlacing and inverse 3:2 pulldown). Also smoothly play even DVDs that may be damaged.
Front Row – Apple TV. Now in-built with Leopard that works like Apple TV. Enjoy digital media playback like never before.
Multicore Enhanced. Honestly, how does your Dual core processor perform? My Core2Duo laptop does not utilize the full power most of the time. In Leopard, get optimum performance from Mac’s multicore processor.
Hot Corner for Sleep Display. Your torrent client need to run 24/7, that doesn’t mean that your monitor also needs to run. In earlier Macs, you couldn’t switch off the display without letting your Mac sleep.
Mac users, is your machine Mac ready? What features excite you?

Ubuntu Linux v7.10 “Gusty Gibbon”

Ubuntu it an open source, fully functional free operating system. Gusty Gibbon marks the beginning of Linux finding it’s way to desktop PCs, more and more laptops now come preinstalled with Linux, taking the popularity to a new level. My favorite quote: “Linux – superior OS for ordinary people!”
If you’ve been considering making the switch from Windows/Mac, Ubuntu makes the process painless. The ability to get things work out of the box will make you get out of your self imposed barrier. And once you’re in, the learning curve is minimal.
What makes is exciting?
3D interface effects. Why buy Vista for eye candy when you get a similar (or better) effect for free? “Advanced Desktop Effects” and all that jazz!
Flavours/Versions that makes sense. I got no clue as what’s the difference between Vista Home, Business, Ultimate and what not. By the way, what’s the difference between XP Home and Pro? Whereas, we have Xubuntu for old and slower PCs, Edubuntu for educational purpose, and so on.. All these have been improved in v.7.10.
Works “out of the box”. Bluetooth, network drives, wireless, webcam and almost everything might work without pain in you-know-where.
Gnome 2.20. Bugs fixes, more features (like improved drag-and-drop support, 3D desktop special effects, etc) and general desktop environment improvment.
Fully automatic printer installation. Because using Linux should not be a hobby. Printer installation is better, low ink remainder, etc. You can also print files wirelessly.
…and much more.

Sound off in the comments, if you’re a Mac/Linux user. Are you a fanboy of any OS? We can post applications other than Windows if there’s enough audience.

Not a Mac/Linux user, just a spelling nazi…
“What makes is exiting?”
WTF
Will you be releasing Leopard on torrents, when or if it comes out?
the new linux is nice
and apples interface is awesome
but if you are windows user for years, you cant transfer that easy
Adolph –
Hehehe… corrected the error.
Darnit, you got my hopes up, I was expecting a leaked Leopard.
.
I can hardly wait for the final Big Cat. The beta has been running smoothly for some time now on my PowerBook, but I can’t wait to install the final on my working-machine.
“almost everything might work without pain” – Hope springs eternal I suppose….
Kef
no you did not Ashwin.
There’s still one “What makes is exiting?” in the bottom
but by the way… that was a great post.
congrats
a –
Corrected that typo as well.
Thanks a lot.
If Macs are now intel based, can the Big Cat run on intel based PCs ???
C.
In fact it is only 4 days till the release of Leopard
zim –
I know Leopard is out on Oct. 26, but in the Apple site, the countdown was at 7 days reflected the same in my post.
Curious –
It can run. But from what I hear, the performance might be good and there’ll tend to be some glitches. OS X is meant to run in your Apple hardware (irrespective if it’s Intel Proccy or not) only.
I’ve been running Gutsy since the BETA and I have finally made the switch on my main PC. I really can’t see myself going back to windows ever again.
lol @ gusty…. sure it’s Gutsy.
Does anyone spell check your posts Ashwin?
“talking the popularity to a new level.”
“The ability to get things work out of the box”
“I got no clue as what’s the difference Vista Home, Business, Ultimate”
I know I am nitpicking, but I do that with a lot of web pages I visit, It justs sticks out with me, sorry.
Oh yeah, by the way, I love my windows XP.
While im sure both mac os x and nix are good, they are completely useless for gaming machine. that settles it for me. its just that easy.
i use linux for some stuff (especially wifi stuff, hehe), and its cool, but if you cant handle xp home and have it run stable and fast, then you have had a lobotomy.
i would rather prefer liniux since windows has many viruses etc easier to catch when liniux rarely gets hit with a virus.
vista sucks i tried it for about three days and well i did not like it nice the way it works i admit but it kept on crashing my computer
is dsnt mater how we swell doez it relly
Ubuntu all the way! I’ve got gutsy up & running. I still haven’t finished setting it up completely but the hard work’s finished.

Ohhh.. my bad! Wrote this sometime back, but didn’t read it again when posting. Hopefully this should not happen again.
so when microsoft packs features into its products, it’s called bloating. when apple bloats their software, it’s called 300+ features.
Take a look at Windows Server 2008 for a superior operating system. Ubuntu is great, but it’s not finished.
@16
Yeah… I agree. Personally I would switch to Ubuntu right now if it was not for lack of games. Microsoft is the only company that seems to put some effort into getting games to their OS. They might be doing a lot of things wrong but that one thing they get right.
Sure you can use stuff like Wine but using Ubuntu is not that important to me that I would be willing to sacrifice game performance for it.
What use is Ubuntu, is the best people can show us, Browsers at stupid angles on the desktop, what use is that ?
No problem Ashwin.
I am sorry for being nitpicking.
I usually do not post on websites about writing errors, but then again, I am not at any other websites as much as yours.
I guess there is a compliment in there somewhere..lol.
Keep up the great work, I enjoy this website.
@23 check here
http://ubuntusoftware.info/ultimate/
They even have a “Gamers Edition”, with a lot of pre-installed games.
@24 “Browsers at stupid angles”…. hahaha that was funny.
One up for Ubuntu. Hope for more linux posts in future.
How come RSL log is now a soap box for editors personal opinions, i dotn wanna get banned here but i use Vista, XP, and Ubuntu on my laptop. and i think each OS is good. Windows will always be the gamers choice. how many computer games are developed for Linux? or Mac for that matter.
can we have a Lil bit more unbiased reports, but its a good post none the less!
I would like to see more entries on apps for Mac or Linux, as I use XP, OS X and Linux (Suse and Ubuntu).
Keep up your good work here at rlslog!
Its not that, but obviously this is a site for Warez, whether it has links to it or not is another matter. But None of the Apps here will work with Linux/Mac so whats the point of even looking at it. If its not worth over $100 Im not downloading it. The more it costs the more I will download, even though I may never need it…
I have to use mac (OS X) at work every other day. I wouldn’t switch my Vista at home to it even if paid to do it. Mac is restrictive, one size fits all hardware+software package.
If you want Unix based OS, just install whatever linux distro you fancy. Much more freedom.
Why is it that every mac user is a pompous ass that need to praise their choice in every way?
Why has this site become Ashwin’s personal praise mac, dismiss Windows site?
Woho! Give me Leopard. Only four days left.
Woho nothing…I just quickly read down the new 300 Features of Leopard, they are all boring and I would rather have Cancer.
I use my OS X with my Mac Book, works very good. I also have it set to dual boot with Windows XP (for simulation programs that i use for Uni). Did i mention that the Mac Book’s look great and the keyboard is fantastic?.. I find that the Mac does great for everything except gaming. I mean, on the laptop all i do is browse the net and type up the odd word document (using Neo Office), oh and occasionally download the odd tv show. Although the variety of programs available for OS X is not very broad.
But don’t’ get me wrong, I’m not one of those guys who sit there and say how great a Mac is, and how much better it is, blah blah blah. I’m a Microsoft Certified Engineer. I think I’d know my way around an operating system. Sure it’s good, but to me Windows XP is still the superior operating system. I mean, pretty much everything is built for or around windows. That’s why windows is so much better, and that’s why i use Windows XP Pro for my Gaming/Main PC. I feel nothing is better at the moment for general everyday use at home.
With *nix, yeah it’s great. But i don’t think it has REALLY reached the Desktop OS stage yet. As OS X, *nix has it’s limitation in it’s variety of programs. Yes there are alternates but it’s just not the same.
My two cents.
I just started using Ubuntu with the new release of 7.10. I have to say, I’m much more impressed than I thought I was going to be. It does everything windows does – faster. The only thing keeping me from installing it on all of my home PC’s is that I’m not sure if all games I play are playable.
Ubuntu works great @ my new thinkpad… dont need no other OS (u know, right tool for the right job)
Want more leenux warezz!
Go Dr.G! Only 4 days left for Leopard! I hope you be the one who posts the leopard torrent in here
Nice post btw. Now, where did I put that Ubuntu CD… need to remove this Vista crap…
@26
Rofl at those tetris-like games.
for the guys who say xp is slower, more virus etc. learn how to operate it d4mb@sses.
been on xp for 3 years, never blue screen, very fast and only 2 times virus because i downloaded some progs from kazaa, lol.
btw macs are slower, twice the price, no upgrade possible so want a faster one? buy another mac…., dont play most games, etc etc etc.
they are better for you if you are an utter design nerd but for normal people, it sucks balls at a higher price.
i’m a mac user!
I have tried a couple of the new distro’s : Mandriva 2008 wont load the OS, I keep getting kernel panic, so I gave up on the powerpack. I next tried the gutsy gibbon.. It’s a livecd where you can install also if everything seems to be okay. I decideed to install. I formatted my regular C drive and it installed and then after reboot.. it says error loading OS. Well christ on crutches is there a fooking release that actually works?
I was going to get Sabayon distro but if the other releases dont work for me why bother.
@26
Yeah, sure there’s that gamers edition. That’s not what I meant though. I mean games along the lines of Half-life 2, Team Fortress 2, World in Conflict, Crysis.
Of course there is a few good games that comes with that gamers edition, like Warsow and Tremulous. Those are good games… but there’s only so many open source games you want to play.
Vista is a let down?….Do you really even use vista? Everyone keeps complaining that their “old” machines wont run the latest technology. Listen, you have to upgrade eventually. Most mac users will just go out and buy a new Mac when leopard comes out. Also, I dont know if anyone remembers, but XP had tons of bugs when it came out. The only reason its so solid now is because of all the fixed and advancements. Vista has tons of great features you’ll never even realize youre using. But i guess it’s typical for people to complain about an operating system they dont fully understand.
That being said, Mac is awesome and tends to be a little more reliable when it comes to using it to download an iTunes song or something equally as mundane. XP is great, but Vista is what PCs need to step into the future of quad core 64 bit-type technologies. Has everyone forgotten how much of a fuss there was when PCs switched to 32-bit.
Wow…so MacOS just implemented the ability to shut the monitor off, without putting the system into hybernation? I’ve been able to do that since, what, Windows 3.1?
Jeez, that’s almost as pathetic as when Apple was sounding the trumpets and bragging about themselves finally getting 2-button mice, after IBM PCs had been using them for decades.
“Never a better time to sport a Mac. With the 300+ new features, OS X Leopard goes even further arguably as the World’s most advanced OS.”
You wrote that? or did Apple? Sounds plain stupid imho. Anyhow, I think both Leopard and especially Gutsy is very intresting, and the idea with a Mac/Linux section here at rlslog sounds like good idea to me.
The more Linux/Mac OS X warez there is the more users those Operating Systems get. It would be very nice if this site starts to announce Linux/Mac apps. Hooray for alternate OS!
I would love it if you guys would write more articles about alternate os’s. For my part more *nix stuff then os x
.
Great article!!!
Hell yeah! I’m using a Macbook and have been, and still is, a big Linux fan. Bring those mac-programs on!
pleeeease…
And for any of you who cant switch because it just looks different(I know there are many) you can always try http://vixta.sourceforge.net
*nix once had a “decent” selection of commercial games with the help of loki who would port them to linux, though long sense gone something like that need only come back and I’m sure it would work better now.
loki ,wyne ect ect are emulators that make believe the software that he is over
a window platform,or else what he is written for…
if you have xp,just use it,dont go mac or linux and then comes back at xp
by the backdoor,,just cold logic
From the post: “I got no clue as what’s the difference between Vista Home, Business, Ultimate and what not.”
Well… I guess you have never paid too much attention to that.
There are quite a few differences, and they’re well documented. One just has to WISH to see them.
And I don’t think that Vista is the worst OS delivered by Microsoft so far. Millennium is in that place by far.
With a decent dual core CPU and 2 gigs of ram Vista moves like no other OS.
I love this new version, finally a GUI for changing resolutions and decent comp bitz effects on my 4 year old laptop. I swear firefox runs quicker on Ubuntu on my Centrino 1.3ghz than it does on my Vista dualcore 1.6ghz.
I have two mac’s. Both dual boot. I use the Windows side to play games and the Mac side for everything else. Best of both worlds. Does anyone do that on their PC? Just wondering..
Yep…Ubuntu is surely very nice…
I’m going to drop Vista for Ubuntu now….
just requested for the free CD…cant wait to get it up my PC..hehe…
Mac can make any OS they want, it wont stop their computers form being massive wastes of money. You can dress up crap anyway you want and it’s still going to be and smell like crap.
Go Dr. G! I can hardly wait for leopard. It’s more exciting than waiting for christmas when I was 9.
btw, nice post. I hope you get to post the leopard release on rlslog…
Duel(triple/quad/beyond) booting is not needed unless you know you want to use both/more OS’s on the same machine and not in a virtual machine or via a live cd or other means. The only hassle in multi boot machines is the boot loader and your knowledge of how to work it.
I also love how everyone is so easy to say “get new hardware and it works just like its supposed to” Well lets go back in time some shall we?
Win95:
386dx — 486 recommended
4mb ram — 8mb recommended
50mb ~ 85mb HDD storage
vga
Win98:
386dx — Pentium recommended
8mb ram — 32mb recommended
120mb ~ 250mb HDD storage
vga
From this we see that yes you would need an “upgrade” to get windows 98 on an old windows 95 machine BUT if you had the top of the line for the windows 95 machine you could get windows 98 on it easily as I recall alot of machines were something of the like of P1 133mhz 16mb ram and 700mb hdd around the time between both OS’s so it wasnt such a leap, though your saying to yourself now that windows 98 was just a well needed 95 upgrade but isnt that all most “new” OS’s in a line up are?
Win2k
Pentium 133mhz — PII or better recommended
64mb ram — 128mb ram or better recommended
2gig HDD + what you need for storage
vga — svga recommended
Oh my oh my look at those requirements I’d have to upgrade to use that from my windows 95 or 98 machine and you are right you would have to but not the whole set up just parts if you could get away with it and it would run happily on the low end providing you didnt demand much of it like any OS.
WinXP
PII 233mhz — PII 300mhz or better recommended
64mb ram — 128mb or better recommended
2gig hdd + what you need for storage
svga
Woah would you look at that leap off a ledge to go from windows 2000 to XP…oh wait…there isnt that big of one, well maybe computer technology wasnt booming then, eh?
WinVista
PIII 800mhz — 1ghz or better recommended — duel core necessary for best performance
512mb ram — 1gig ram or better + 4gig flash drive for ready boot recommended
15gig hdd + what you need for storage
svga — a dx9 video card with 128mb vram recommended — a dx10 card with 512mb vram necessary to play any games that require vista with medium to high settings
Now there we go thats the leap off the deep end we go, unlike most other OS vista requires near bleeding edge hardware to make the best of it because you cant run it well on a minimum system unlike say ubuntu or even WinXP before it and still have/use all its new features and to many its not worth a new system for vista alone or the new games. If vista had lower system requirements and a little more polish(think they would of learned from XP) it would take off better but it just demands to much with so little in return for its price that unless your buying a store bought pc its not worth it and even then alot of them are wanting to go back to WinXP and not just because its what/all they know.
RS linkz for Leopard plz. thx in adv.
yea i would like to see more linux software. “Sum of 2 + 6″thats so true
Well, normally I’m pretty behind the editors on here, but I’m gonna have to go with previous comments on this one:
It was made pretty clear that this article was written by someone with no real working knowledge of Vista. A lot of the why’s have already been covered by previous posts, so I’ll just add that my 2.4gig processor/512 RAM run Vista ten times better than it ever ran XP. And the differences between XP Home/XP Pro and the differences between the various versions of Vista are numerous.
I am also a big supporter of Linux, but the main problem with linux has always been and remains to be program compatibility. If one can’t run their games or programs without significant pain, there’s a problem. I love the way Linux works, but hate that it won’t run stuff.
Macs are for people who want reliability and speed. PCs are for people who play games and get viruses. Ive been using macs for years ever and Ive never had any problems. Ive been through about 6 PCs; most of which I sold to morons at my college for cigarette change and free beer. I have one PC left (”the almighty falcon northwest”) which sits in my basement playing my MP3 playlist for my home phone hold music system. I say save your money and by a mac next time; unless you play half-life because that game kicks ass. PC

@ashwin
Sorry, didn’t know when you started to write that post. But thanks for your reply.
And, i forgot the first time, good post
i should try out gusty gibbon later, the last time i got compiz & xgl to work it was a pain in the ass.
@ Thraprod
“…I’ll just add that my 2.4gig processor/512 RAM run Vista ten times better than it ever ran XP…”
I have a amd64 3000+ 2ghz with 1gig of pc2700 ram with a geforce 6600 128mb vram and I can say from my experience that WinXP Pro was much better then Vista Ultimate on my machine, I really tried to like it it stayed on my machine for 2months.
I can agree though on the hasstle that is installing things on *nix systems as there not yet just one way to do it like windows and depending on what fork you wish to use depends on how you do it but there are things like click and run and various others that are trying to make it as easy as windows and mac with a one size fits all way of doing it and once the day comes where they all have that as standard and theres better/more support standards for hardware drivers(that would take the hardware vendors assistance)as well theres 2 of the big issues out of the way and desktop linux will be ready for your average joe pc user.
I use Linux at work and I HATE IT. But I gotta admit, the screenshots don’t look like putrid crap, pretty suave actually. By golly I hate my RedHat work system.
In fact, I’m going to try it out.
Ashwin, if you want to become the regular tech-news editor you have my vote. but you’d better improve your spelling and grammar.
I just wonder… How come the torrent iso is 4.23 GB and the direct download from ubuntu site is less than 700 MB.
And no word about other languages…
But i’ll give it a try, i am tired of M$ and its kinda imperialist behavior. Not to mention the bugs. I reinstalled my XP Pro recently and already have corrupted system files that i never heard of, and never messed with.
And my next computer will be a Mac Book, i have friends who have it, and it appears to be amazing. And i can have a XP on it for gaming purposes!
Beware M$!
I actually downloaded the MAC OS X Leopard tour 27min long video and watched all of it. I must say that i am impressed and hands down the technology that MAC has implemented is very nice and clearly a few steps ahead of Windows Vista; it is important to note that i reside in the Vista > XP camp of Win users. The iChat Theater looks sweet, and i am really looking forward to use the “Time Machine” utility to go forward in time to when Counter Strike 2 is released and download it…. woo woo ! Mo, seriously though here is the gripe:
P-R-O-P-R-I-E-T-A-R-Y SUPREME !
Funny how people talk about Microsoft being the evil empire that is trying to take over everything. Apple is like the f*cking matrix, you can only do things their way: wanna build your own comp and use MAC OS X? Tough gotta buy ours. Wanna use Windows software? Tough you have to boot camp (which almost renders MAC OS X useless….what is the point?), want to upgrade your processor or mobo? Tough gotta buy a new one of our computers.
F*ck that i am not some mindless minion of a corporation. I may use Windows software but their domination of what i can do basically stops there. I am free to upgrade my comp at will and build it to my exacting specifications as high or low as they may be. After i have the OS installed i can basically run any program i want to.
I would really really really honestly like to start using MAC OS X Leopard because of its innovative features, but i will be damned if i have to purchase a proprietary computer system to do it. Apple can kiss my ass on that one.
I build computers as a side business and i sell anywhere from 25-40 per month. I currently let customers choose from: no OS, Win Vista Ultimate, or Ubuntu Linux, maybe XP Pro if they beg…. LOL JK
Anyway my point is that i cant offer my customers Leopard because you cant build a Macintosh computer….only Apple can, LOL.
Too bad Apple is so blinded by their greed that they don’t even release the basic components for sys.constructors to help them build their army. Nope you gotta buy it directly from them at their insanely r3tard3d prices for insanely r3tard3d proprietary hardware. I can sell a 1333FSB Quad Core monster for the price that they are offering a 800FSB 2 year old technology piece of garbage. NO THANKS APPLE, you lost a prospective supporter, APPLE FTL
Somebody call me when they release MAC OS for PC, i will be interested then.
You tell him Mr. X
Gusty?
WTF!
ok….for the people here who say that pc’s are virus magnets, that is soooo wrong. I am a heavy user of the internet (where most of the virus’s come from) and I have been attacked *twice*, yes only twice in my whole history of using pc’s (10 years). That is because I use something called an ANTIVIRUS soft. surprise. And now you even get awesome free antivirus softs like avast and avg, both of which work great.
Decided to see what all the fuss is about. So started to install Ubuntu on my laptop. 3 hrs later… 3rd attempt to install. I get PCI bridge and bios error messages at boot.. and a lovely black screen, with flashing charaters.
I can’t see what all the fuss is about.
I’m a Vista fan. Why? Not the eye candy, although it’s nice. Not the ultimate extras, they are certainly lacking there. It’s the finer features such as automatic folder refreshes, larger thumbnail views for pictures, right click on a shortcut and ‘open file location’ is right there, and all drivers out of the box. Lots little things that make it so much better than XP.
I run mine on a AMD 3500 xp with 1gb ram and no complaints, so as far as people saying it’s a resource hog and you need a supercomputer – I say you don’t know wtf you’re doing.
I’ve messed around with *nix enough to know that you’ll end up spending more time trying to comprehend documentation, figuring out which package you’ll need to download, and typing in a console than you do being productive with it.
As for macs – ick.
Actually Soni Ubuntu attempts to cut through the stereotype that you put forward of the “old” Unix tree. I actually do all of my mission critical business (financial documentation and storage for my business) on my Ubuntu machine. I am looking forward to Gibbon will probably upgrade this weekend. Its a nice respite from the Win environment but WINE doesn’t run everything.
As for MAC, yes ICK for now……if Apple decides to loosen its sphincter and release a PC version of OS X (or XI)i think that the OS marketplace could get very exciting. Some VERY nice and revolutionary features in Leopard.
for mac users with intel processors, most of us just install xppro on another partition or harddrive.
we just reboot into xp.
for daily stuff that REQUIRES win, vmware fusion rocks. it lets us use that same installation from within the macosx in its own window.
DOH.

Indeed.
Windohs = a proprietary crippled DRM’d platform for PCs
Mac = a proprietary crippled DRM’d platform for crippled DRM’d PCs
Installing mac on a non crippled PC is easy though (it needs a full drive though). It’s just not legal and Apple is doing it’s best to keep all working howtos ofline.
I’ll personally stick with GNU/Linux (Debian and Slackware at home, Red Hat at work).
The only non GNU/Linux system I use is OpenBSD.
i am bi-curious
so i put feisty fawn on an old desktop a few weeks ago. yesterday it updated to gutsy gibbon and i only had to click a few keys.
pros….
any time i have a problem google gives a fix …so many so helpful people in the community
the new distro automatically turns on a wired network…i can write to my windows ntfs files from ubuntu
cons….
seems you CAN get a logitech laser mouse with many buttons to work, but looks far too complicated for me
ditto for some other peripherals
i like to play with it, but let’s face it. so long as we can steal windows for free, why bother to learn another OS
the day microsoft succeeds in its ‘verification’ crap will be the day everyone turns to linux
I’d switch to Linux tommorow because of all the work being done to get contmporary games to work on it.. HOWEVER, the ONE game I keep installed 24/7 is PLANESCAPE:TORMENT and that is STILL unable to run on Linux even after all these years… That’s the one thing that stops me from switching.
.. Windows is still the only viable games platform.. shame.
@Gotbannedcosofname
Planescape Torment runs perfect in Linux using Wine:
http://frankscorner.org/index.php?p=planescapetorment
Just as easy as playing it on a Windohs box
@ jdizzle1337 : so u r building pcs professionally? and what makes a pro what he is if he doesnt know how to install macosx on a godamm pc man ? and don’t tell me its illegal coz all ppl here are illegal one way or the other lol. i am running macosx 10.4.10 on a 380 bucks machine (asrock mobo/radeon1600/core2 1.86ghz/1gb ram) and it even upgrades smoothly. yes its faster than windows (i have 8 windows machines)but still, its not as customizable as windows both for the simple and the power user.
if u are in need of a cheap machine for internet – pix – music than a cheap pc with macosx is a faster/better choice than windows or linux.there are some limitations as to which hardware your machine must have to meet macosx requirements but these are easily met with even the cheapest of mobos/grfx cards as u can see from my aforementioned macosx machine.
So windows vista – yes it rox – but macos is cool too -so i ll take both plz thnx a lot and cheers
PS: try your hacintosh if u got a spare drive – the kalyway rls of 10.4.10 worked for me , ive tried two other uphuck rls but wouldnt work and although this kalyway rls has ingredients of the uphuck rls it was the only one to work on my asrock/ich7 machine
@ jvb
WOW, missed that, I ran a search too and all I got were pages of peeps saying no go….
Well that’s me off to install… hope it’s not all command line, though I am at least willing and able to learn.
Cheers, bud.
I have Vista and i always wonder why people are saying its bad the way i see it vista is a brand new OS and for windows to work out all the bugs and fix other problems related to what kind of system you have is an enormus task.
They cant test it on all possible types of computer setup right?
And frankly i have vista premium and iv had it since day one and the only problems iv had is campatability issues with som games and programs but i always manage to fix it you just need basic computer know how and if you cant fix basic problems in vista then you truly need a computer lesson an easier OS to figure out dosent exist.
Vista is a very well planed OS if u ask me they have compatability mode that almost always work of course you can run into problems but like i said it dosent take much effort to fix it
BTW i have tried mac hated it and i have tried Linux so i know what im talking about
Sry for my really bad english should have done my homework in english class ^^
Mac receives it’s first Trojan virus, LOL… I never though I’d see the day… Have fun with that. I hope all you Mac users have virus and spyware/Malware scanners!

I like how the only good thing about Windows is the fact they make games for it. If game developers ported all games to Linux would anyone actually use it?
