The Patriot Act Under Fire PDTV XViD-Ballerina

First of all, I highly doubt that this is a PDTV TV-rip and should be nuked for mislabled. It is most likely a DVDRip, and an expensive one at that. The group must of gotten the DVD from here or borrowed it from the library. The group mentions this program is rather old, and it is at 2003. It deals with the controversial US patriot act, which restricts normal citizens’ rights in order to fight ‘the war on errorism’. Avoid this download if you are not interested in politics, but for those who are, it has a critical view of the act which is surprising for an American media corporation like ABC. But it is, however Nightline which is a good show in general.

The Patriot Act Under Fire: To many, worrying about constitutional rights seemed like an archaic luxury while Ground Zero was still smoking. The need for tighter homeland security made civil liberties take a back seat to urgent measures such as the USA PATRIOT Act designed to defend America from terrorists. But two years later, that piece of legislation came under fire from both the left and the right. In this ABC News program, Ted Koppel takes a hard look at the law with representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice, the ACLU, and others. (23 minutes)

Regardless of how people feel about it, the Act has helped keep the U.S. from being attacked again by those who are trying.

Are you shitting me, man? The patriot act allows the U.S. Government to basically invade anyones privacy as long as they suspect something. I have nothing to hide, but damn that makes me feel like moving back to Europe, or Canada. Sorry for swearing, you guys who saw my posts before know that I never cursed on this site before, but..

FUCK THE PATRIOT ACT AND ALL IT’S SUPPORTERS

oh and regarding the high price:

    Prices include public performance rights.

Thats normal for dvds like that. Its sad, because that way no normal person will ever purchase these… but its normal.

Detainment without arrest, loopholes to taint or manufacture evidence, etc. Boyfriends and Husbands have been living under similar threats for decades.

The right will always be the lesser of two evils and thank God it’s almost over (after 2 decades of lies and repression, I’m going to enjoy this, it is the only way).

From what I gather, ABC is not an American media corporation but rather an American broadcast network that is owned by The Walt Disney Company. If its objectivity surprises you, that, no offense, only speaks of your lack of literacy on the subject. I’m as anti-PATRIOT Act as a reasonable person who doesn’t know any of its provisional details can be (please don’t pretend that you do), but I wonder whether you can find enough sense of reason in yourself to start posting documentaries that feature, let’s say, less negative views on the U.S and American people. Not often but at least… well, at least once or twice. This constant bigotry gets somewhat annoying if you ask me.

    #1 S-T-F-U please.

Have you ever read the constitution of the USA? If no, then i will direct you to my original statement. If yes then you should be able to PLAINLY see that the “Patriot Act” (don’t even get me started about the name because support for it is about as un-patriotic as you can possibly get) blatantly destroys one of the most sacred freedoms that we have: the Fourth Ammendment (the right against unreasonable search and seizure, this is the one that gives us the little privacy that we still have).

The basic premise of American law, the premise that made it the most fair and free country for so many years (before the current neo nazi regime SEVERELY tarnished it) is that ANY law enforcement agency (yes even the Federal Government) MUST get permission (a warrant)from an impartial judge that will require a burden of proof to be met before permission (a warrant) be granted. Not only that but you MUST be notified of any search or seizure of your property. The un-Patriot Act eliminates this and the Federal Government can simply declare you a “national threat” and search and seize your property with NO warrant, NO review by an impartial body, NO notice to you what-so-ever. THIS CLEARLY GOES DIRECTLY AGAINST THE 4th AMENDMENT GUARANTEES AND PROTECTIONS, THIS IS U-N-C-O-N-S-T-I-T-U-T-I-O-N-A-L PERIOD DOT END OF SENTENCE.

Not only that but it also gives the Federal Government the right to suspend HABEAS CORPUS (Latin “(so we) have (a) corpse”). The reason it is called HABEAS CORPUS is because in old Europe a monarchy would normally just throw all of their enemies in prison, then 30 years later when they got around to giving them a trial the would find out…. oh wow they died of old age before we could give them a trial….whoops!. ALL Americans have the CONSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEE that charges must be declared against them and they have audience with a judge with substantive evidence of their guilt presented against them; supreme court decisions have essentially established that this MUST MUST MUST happen within 14 days of your arrest.

Why would the Federal Government want to suspend the 4th amendment? Why cant they just show proof to a judge and get a warrant? Why don’t they want you to know if they have searched or seized your property? Why would the government need to suspend your rights to a quick and speedy trial and presentation of the evidence against you? Why does the government need the authority to take American citizens and put them in jail with NO CHARGES, NO COURT DATE, and NO ACCESS TO LEGAL REPRESENTATION FOR AS LONG AS THEY PLEASE?

These are SERIOUS questions that MUST be asked. The government is OUR (the people’s) servant not the other way around. The government should be scared of US (the people) not the other way around. The constitution of the United States was written for a simple reason: to protect the people of the United States of America and LIMIT the power of the government against its people. NEVER support ANY law that would put even ONE of your guaranteed rights and freedoms in jeopardy. WAKE UP AND TAKE ACTION, STOP THE PATH TO TYRANNY AND QUESTION EVERYTHING THE GOVERNMENT DOES AND SAYS.

Here are some more torrents for people that want to wake up and get a feel for what the tyrannical regime of the Bush administration and its cronies are all about:

Ted Koppel is the last person I would want discussing the Patriot act. This the same man and show who attacked a black professer because he mention the well documented fact from jewish sources that jew owned and controlled the slave ships that brought the slaves to america. He also attack Guns N Roses because they released a song called One in a Million that put forward a reasonable immagration policy idea.

Oh jdizzle… you had me, I was happy to read such a great and long, yet not “bloated” comment, and than you had to throw in the loose change and Freedom to Facism links…

I’m sorry… but it just makes me sad everytime someone ruins his well thought out arguements with something like that.
This is doing more damage than good.
I wont argue that quite some stuff in there “might” be true, but its faaaar from proven and thus nothing that has to do anything with FACTS we are discussing here.

You are not doing “our” cause any good with this.
If you want to win someone over, if you think you can present him arguements that should convince him that you are right and he should think\read more about the subject, you just ruin your chances for him to do that with jumping the gun or making a step to much or however you wanna call it.
Stuff like this, and rightly so imho, just keeps people back from tacking criticism liek yours seriously.
“Why should I listen to someones arguements, when the guy believes everything he sees in any badly pieced together Documentary?” Thats the only thought you are creating with an approach like that.

…I guess my words dont mean much to you, and I guess I will nevr see the end of this behavior everywhere, especially on the net, but please atleast think about it.
I am not saying “dont belive this or that”, I am just saying: When discussing important things with people of other “belive” or opinion, stick to your arguements and dont scare them of or make yourself seem implausable with unrelated and far from bulletproof theorys.
This benefits you, your discussion partner and everyone else who would be glad to see another mind convinced of whats right and good.

well, I’ll end my plee hear… please do comment if you feel like you have something to say to that.

Just realised I forget to mention something important to me:
I DO appreaciate people thinking and talking about stuff like that. Dont get me wrong there.
I just dont like it when this gets stirred in with a discussion of more down to earth topics, and especially, with people that yet have to be convinced that they might not be on the right track when they belive or even promote right wing propaganda

    “the war on errorism”

…that’s got to be one of the best Freudian slips I’ve seen in a while. Indeed the patriot act actually fights terrorism with error-ism.

    Boo-

There isn’t much that’s NOT negative about the U.S. right now. There may be certain things that seem positive in comparison to what we in the U.S. are used to but I don’t see a lot of documentaries made for “Sure, that’s terribly, ridiculously bad, but what about this?”. Nor should there be.

If we want the content of documentaries about the U.S. to change, we need to change how things are in the U.S.

What I’d like is for people from outside the U.S. to stop harassing us as if we’re all loonies. We’re not ALL loonies… really. We are a huge country and have a lot of different people, quit grouping us together!

wow look at you pussies. you guys screaming about omg they are invading our privacy, do you think the government really fucking cares about what you’re doing on your spare time? in reality, the patriot act has helped get rid of redudant bureaucratic paperwork and have pertained to mostly hardcore highly suspected terrorist activity. in addition, more than half the American people SUPPORT surveillance in their neighborhoods and cities.

#12 I never said that i believed everything in any of the documentaries that i posted. My post was about the unconstitutional un-Patriot Act, and it is clearly unconstitutional. The un-Patriot Act will not be renewed when it expires (one of the only reasons that it got passed), so i am not too worried about it. However i am worried about the gullibility of Americans (and the people that represent them in Congress) to be bullied into submission by FOX, CNN, and half baked intelligence gathering.

Any documentary that you watch or article/comment that you read should not be considered sole truth, but instead used as a jump off point for further questions and research by the viewer. That being said the American government has perpetrated LOTS of bullshit against its citizens over the last 90 years and it needs to be stopped.

Oh and i forgot to post one other link, this one is about the douchebag fuck that created FOX “News” (ROFL), and the jocus hocus pocus bullshit that spews forth from its fetid mouth it is called Outfoxed - Rupert Murdoch’s War On Journalism. And its not really up for debate or calling something a conspiracy theory once it is recorded on video and can be played over and over and over again. Outfoxed will REALLY appall your senses.

  18. August 30th, 2007 | 06:23

#15….. you don’t get it do you? The Bill of Rights was created for a reason: to protect EVERYONE (even the guilty). Not so that some douchebag and his cronies can cut through “bureaucratic paperwork”. Taking evidence to a judge is NOT hard, unless of course……. YOU DONT HAVE ANY.

    Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

    Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

    Amendment VI

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

Hey jackass, the constitution is 100% clear, and the un-Patriot Act DIRECTLY attacks 3 of our most important rights…the ones that protect us from the government. Democracy isn’t easy, but i would rather suffer a major terrorist attack in this country every day for the rest of my life than give up 1 shred of my constitutional rights and protections. Democracy is worth dying for…..tyranny is not.

    Generation ObnoXious…All of you.

Regurgitating conspiracy-based crap about GW Bush out to dominate the world, etc, etc, isn’t going to convince anyone who has a strongly-grounded position on the opposing side, so stop trying.

There’s actually a psychological explanation for why people believe in conspiracy theories. Basically, “there is some underlying process in human psychology that assumes that the bigger the effect is, the bigger the cause must have been.” The History Channel’s debunking of the 9/11 myths touches on the work of the psychologist quoted in the Economist article.

It kind of explains why so many otherwise normal people have gone fucking nuts since 9/11.

Yea, its terrible that, in this day and age of disposable cell phones, the U.S. Congress wrote a law that allows the FBI to tap all phones that a suspect uses, not just the phone registered at his home.

Yea, we don’t need any laws that help the police in the U.S. because its so easy for the government to throw anyone in jail. Right OJ?

The patriot act has done nothing but allow the government to spy on US citizens ESPECIALLY journalists - so that potential whistleblowers who were once protected by law now know that as soon as they contact a journalist it will be known.

Fortunately for truth we the people have become journalists ourselves through the use of blogs and the internet to disseminate the truth.

Just goes to show how much those old guys don’t understand the net.

Oh, and I’m sure everyone commenting here has actually read the Patriot Act in its entirety and is sufficiently schooled in American jurisprudence to understand it’s nuances. I’m sure none of you are just talking out your arse with nary a clue as to what the thing actually says, right?

    Re: 19

Maybe you should read up on the reason why people so willfully go along with propoganda as well. Regarding your history channel 9/11 docu here’s a nice rebuttal you’re sure enough to deny (like how some people deny the holocaust ).

    @Mr. X

Its amazing that people such as yourself, with your narrow-minded agenda of bashing the U.S. and President Bush, continue to believe that people other than fundamentalist Muslim radicals are responsible for the attacks on September 11th.

  28. August 31st, 2007 | 02:41

It is amazing that you actually think that, hedgy, with your closed minded agenda of spreading lies propagated by those elements who wish to will you into a life of ignorance and will-full stupidity.

    Repeat this to yourself:
‘I believe that 19 fanatical Muslim terrorists, members of Al Qaeda led by Osama bin Laden, caught all the U.S. intelligence, military and political establishments totally off guard.’

in regards to your take on the events of 9/11 .

Oh yeah, a quick little tidbit - I would stop posting documentaries ‘omg critical’ about all things US - but oh my, how would I ever do that if people don’t stop making documentaries/shows that are exactly that?

  29. hegehog
    August 31st, 2007 | 08:08

    @Mr. X

Why is it so difficult for you to believe that the U.S. was caught off guard by the 19 terrorists who all happened to be suicidal? The entire concept of defending the U.S. from this group of animals that believe in their cause so strongly that they will kill themselves just to take out some of their enemies is incredible. These animals are brainwashed by their religious leaders and give their lives to kill innocent people.

Maybe you could post a few documentaries on how the fundamental Islamic radicals are a peace loving people. Can’t find any of those either, can you??

How nice that I’m now relegated to the same group as holocaust deniers.

The onus is on YOU to prove beyond reasonable doubt that there is a conspiracy involved with 9/11. Thus far, this group of crazed attention-whores have been anything BUT reasonable in their arguments.

Hedgehog, it appears that you and I are the only sane ones on this commenting block.

  31. September 5th, 2007 | 01:27

well you two are going to be thinking that way an awfully long time until you read some books on 9/11 like media cover up of 9/11, synthetic terror, videos like terrorstorm and countless others. learn and ask yourself questions, just don’t be ignorant to what you’ve been conditioned to believe all your life.

  32. Pragmatist
    September 5th, 2007 | 13:13

Mr. X, as the saying goes, sitting behind a computer all day watching videos and reading books does not an expert make.

You’re not thinking critically here, and calling me ignorant, despite helping you to feel better about yourself, doesn’t change the truth. For every conspiracy theory there is about 9/11, there’s a legitimate counterargument. And there has been a history of these conspiracy theorists continually revising their message when one part of it is disproven.

This, Mr. X, is never a good way to win an argument.

I’d be glad to debate you all day, but it’s obvious you’re well beyond reason at this point. Best of luck to you reaching the plane of reality.
