The Painted Veil LiMiTED DVDRip XviD-DiAMOND
It’s really interesting to see how lond does it take to various movies from dvd screener to dvdrip. I remeber cases when these two releases appeared in one week, just after few days. The Painted Veil is the exactly different case: DVDSCR from group ESPiSE appeared already in January, and the final dvdrip is available right now, released by DiAMOND during this night. Although limited, this movie looks superb. And Golden Globe given to The Painted Veil just confirms it. If you like history, this is a must have for you. One small note: I don’t want to somehow moan about Diamond’s releases, they are top notch, but 125 min movie would probably deserve 2 Cds. Video bitrate of 620 kbps seems little low to me, although there are no visible image artefacts…
Based on the novel by W. Somerset Maugham, The Painted Veil is a love story set in the 1920s that tells the story of a young English couple, Walter (Edward Norton), a middle class doctor and Kitty (Naomi Watts), an upper-class woman, who get married for the wrong reasons and relocate to Shanghai, where she falls in love with someone else. When he uncovers her infidelity, in an act of vengeance, he accepts a job in a remote village in China ravaged by a deadly epidemic, and takes her along. Their journey brings meaning to their relationship and gives them purpose in one of the most remote and beautiful places on earth.

This is a pretty good flick. I saw it quite some time ago and both Edward Norton and Naomi Watts put in some pretty good performances. I’d say it’s more around an 8.5/10.

and does norton talk in english accent, or normal like how americans all talk? sounds of english accents is sooooo annoy to me.
It was made in Manderin, French and English language and the Manderin one is on other sites, therefore, the question is, “is this the English copy”?
Ed Norton uses an english accent in this movie. It’s not extremely horrible once you get used to it.
And that dvd screener release was in english, with subtitles for the other languages. I’m not too sure about this one, sorry. It’s probably a safe bet that Diamond has released a similar copy.

best ensemble acting of the year, if you take female lead (naomi watts), male lead (edward norton), female siderole (legendary leather-babe diana rigg at age 68 as the “mother superior” head-nun), and male siderole (toby jones as the neighbor deputy commissioner) ; also nice almost-cameo-appearance by anthony wong as the army colonel !
