@aseembehl
Actually, I'm 100% Gujarati, from Vadodara to be exact, so yeah, I know there are different Indian languages, from Urdu to Telugu, from Hindi to Gujarati. But thanks for answering my question and not trying to make a point about how much you know about Indian culture.

Anyways, I ended up watching the ORiGiNAL version as opposed to this propered AFO version. I just downloaded the subtitles for this one (AFO) and used Jubler to timeshift the subtitles 21.388 frames or seconds or whatever for the second disc and it worked out fine. Also, there are some subtitle files out there that are just the Indian speaking parts (Bengali to be exact) so you don’t have to watch the whole thing while being distracted by text on the bottom. I still have those files if anyone wants them and I would be more than glad to share them. Or I guess I could post them here and you could save them as a .srt file.

lemur:

Hollywood/Bollywood, American Born Confused Desis, Bend it like Beckham, Monsoon Wedding, American Desi, Bride and Prejudice, American Chai, Banana Brothers, Ramji Londonwale...

The list goes on and on and on. Ask any Indian (who follows bollywood) on how many such flicks have been released so far.

That said, I still stick to my earlier views that

a) There's nothing original about the movie
b) The ending is unfinished

I was surprised. This movie is amazing. For all you dumb ignorant faggots who like movies like john tucker must die and soul plane you should be able to see how amazing this is. With amazing acting, a fairly good story, amazing cinematography, art direction, and direction from mira nair this shit is one of the best movies of 2006.
Yes the music in this movie is bad but it's not an indian movie it's a fox searchlight picture.
and yea hindi music is actually alot better than the trash on bet and mtv because of the use of real instruments beautiful melodies, actually intelligent lyrics no shakira bullshit, and great singers.

but what will you dumbfucks know? u'll keep buying 50 cent and watching hot rod every night.

Crap movie. Watched it in the theaters, what a piece of trash.

There’s no proper story line at all, its more like a documentary. Hell, a documentary would have been more watchable. And wth, yet another indo-american flick? This “movie” is supposed to explore the lives of Indians who settle in the US, but what’s so new/great about that? Haven't there been some 5-10 similar flicks already? What’s so new/great about this movie?

The ending was quite unfinished. You know like how when you eat an ordinary meal but you look forward to the wonderful dessert at the end? Well, the dessert never came.

Avoid. Not worth watching if you've seen similar indo-american flicks before.

PS: Never, I repeat, *never* make the mistake of watching a Mira Nair movie with your family like I did.

"Are the Indian speaking parts like on the Simpsons when the Spanish Bumblebee is talking in Spanish and there are no subtitles but you still get what is going on?"

@Seth
There is no language called "Indian". India has about 17 official languages, "Hindi" being the primary one.

Anyways I am a big fan of Mira Nair(Namesake's director), if you like this movie, don't forget to watch her Oscar nominated "Salaam Bombay!" and Golden Globe winner "Monsoon Wedding".
