The Namesake 2006 LiMiTED DVDRip XviD-ORiGiNAL

The Namesake is a new limited movie released in the nice dvdrip by group ORiGiNAL. This film was filmed in India and also in the USA, so the result is a mixture of Boly and Holywood production. A touching story of American immigrants full of love, courage and hard times earned a lot of respect and positive feedback from critics and although it doesn’t feature any AAA names, it has a lot to say. Introduced at Toronto Film Festival, The Namesake is now available on 2 CDs with few days of advance against the retail DVD date.

Spanning two generations, two clashing cultures and two very different ways of life that crash into each other only to become lovingly intertwined, THE NAMESAKE is ultimately about the imminently relevant question: what does it mean to be an American family? In her most personal film to date, acclaimed director Mira Nair (VANITY FAIR, MONSOON WEDDING) brings to the screen a poignant and transporting version of Jhumpa Lahiri’s best-selling novel, which won reader’s hearts across the world with its exploration of the ties that can both tangle and bind global families as they brave the modern vicissitudes of change, conflict and disaster.

Jumping between the equally colorful and vibrant cities of Calcutta and New York, THE NAMESAKE is a family drama, but it’s about a very different kind of contemporary American family: the Gangulis, who come to the U.S. from India in order to experience a world of limitless opportunities – only to be confronted with the perils and confusion of trying to build a meaningful life in a baffling new society.

I saw this book in the bookstore, and it was interesting. Movies aren’t usually perfect copies of the book, but I will check this out.
and as magikal stated, it is 1.37GB and 2CD, not 1.

Yup, yet another shallow “Mira Nair” movie…

… a hypocrite of a bitch who changed her menu to flapdoodle since “Salaam Bombay!”, till this day it’s a mystery to me how the hell she managed to whip out that mind blowing masterpiece of a gem , yes “Salaam Bombay!” I’m sure it was the team crew from the camp she was working with who deserve all the real credit.

    Movie Synopsis:
oh, that stereotyped western white whore bitch, who doesn’t know how to dress up at her boyfriends dads funeral, (you suck A S S “Mira Nair” bitch!) and a fucking retarded stupid Jackass cunt of a Desi boy who experiences enlightenment jacking off to elephant manure…

Sorry “Mira Nair” but you’ve lowered yourself to “sleaze”.

    The Namesake (book)

The Namesake, her (Jhumpa Lahiri) fifth book and first novel, was published in 2003. An anecdote published in USA Today mentions a schoolteacher who found her given name too long and used her nickname Jhumpa instead.[1] Lahiri adapted this incident in her book, which spans more than thirty years in the life of a fictional family, the Gangulis. The parents, each born in Calcutta, immigrated to the United States as young adults. Their children, Gogol and Sonia, grow up in the United States and much of the tension of the novel is dependent upon the generation and cultural gap between the parents and the children. One of the major themes of the book is the confusion caused by the a misunderstanding which occurred when Gogol is very young: his pet name (Gogol) becomes mistaken for his real name. Thus, Gogol’s unusual name serves as a symbol of his own unclear cultural identity (further complicated by the fact that Gogol is the last name of a noted Russian author).

(* The film, The Namesake was released in March 2007 in the United States and the United Kingdom. It is directed by Mira Nair and a screenplay adapted from Lahiri’s novel by Sooni Taraporevala. The film stars Kal Penn as the young protagonist Gogol, and features Bollywood stars Tabu and Irrfan Khan. Lahiri herself is an extra in the film.)

    Stupid movie.

Firstly, the story isn’t anything original. I know, its based on the book, but as movie its “been there done that”.

Second, there *is* no story. It seems more like a documentary. Hell, I think a documentary is more watchable than this crap. The ending is very abrupt – they don’t even bother to close off the characters’ stories.

Third – don’t ever make the mistake of watching this with your family, like I did! :(

NEVER watch a Mira Nair movie with your family. Period. Or for that matter, never ever bother watching *any* Mira Nair movie at all. What a piece of “artistic” crap.

Stay away from this one, don’t tell me I didn’t warn you.

Apart from constructive comments about the film quality these obnoxious persons who continually abuse different races and use abusive language, should be banned as members, and therefore unable to make comments. The everyday person does not want to continually read this abuse, they are only interested in the movie itself.

you should first take a look at them before you thank… these are just subtitles for the english parts of the movies – and very bad ones at that (my mother tongue isn’t english and even i understand the actors better than the guy who wrote the subtitles).

parts where the used language isn’t english are NOT included in those subtitles!

and i’d be more than happy if someone posted complete ones… i’m dying to see this movie :(

    July 31st, 2007 | 00:49

yea proper subs are nowhere to be found. unwatchable

  34. sh4dow
    July 31st, 2007 | 09:39

yes but actually, there’s another “rip” (the quality makes me wonder) which has hardsubbed english subs. both video and audio suck pretty bad (video looks like vhs, audio sounds almost like that of a telesync) and i’m not even sure if those subs are complete because they only appear sometimes when the actors say something in hindi or so – not always.

the name of that rip is
    The Namesake – PDVDRip – XviD – 1CDRip [KaMaL] – [xDR]-[ExDesi.com].avi

so if you’re really desperate, maybe try to get that one.

    August 2nd, 2007 | 19:02

Crap movie. Watched it in the theaters, what a piece of trash.

There’s no proper story line at all, its more like a documentary. Hell, a documentary would have been more watchable. And wth yet another indo-american flick? This “movie” is supposed to explore the lives of Indians who settle in the US, but what’s so new/great about that? Havent’ there been some 5-10 similar flicks already? What’s so new/great about this movie?

    Avoid.

Wow, can’t we deal without all the racial commentary. If you don’t think you’ll like the movie or for the most part don’t like the race it’s about, then don’t see it. It’s as simple as that. I’m always surprised at the number of people out there that are complete neanderthals (e.g., India and Pakistan are actually 2 separate countries) or can’t manage to put a complete sentence together (e.g., Mira ke Gand pe Laat maro whatever the heck your name is???).
