The Legend Returns!
We at rlslog don’t usually inform on the happenings of other BitTorrent sites which are not affiliated with us but with SuprNova we take exception. SuprNova.org is a domain name that has a special place in many a BitTorrent users heart. It was a place where young and naive Internet users (me for one) got their first taste of the wonders Peer 2 Peer file sharing could offer. If you are new to BitTorrent than you may not be familiar with SuprNova but when the site was running there was no Mininova, no Pirate Bay, ISOHunt and TorrentSpy were only just starting so at that time SuprNova was the one stop shop for all your torrenting needs. Originally it was started in late 2002 by a Slovenian teenager known as Slonček, soon SuprNova grew into what can only be described as a BitTorrent Lengend, but even Legends are not invulnerable and the site was taken down two years after its birth on December 2004 when legal threats were sent to Slonček and he decided to take the site down before it was forcibly removed. It came as a surprise to many BitTorrent users when the front page of the ‘biggest’ BitTorrent site adorned the ’site down’ message that we all dread to see. A sad and scary time for all P2P users.
Today though after more than two years the legendary site has returned. As explained in my announcement post, Slonček decided to donate the domain name to the people who run The Pirate Bay (no more legal threats!) and they got straight to work on relaunching the site… And today they finished. That’s right if you point your browser towards SuprNova.org you will be once again surfing on one the most important BitTorrent sites ever to have graced this virtual world we call the Internet. The new website went live today at 18:03:27 GMT after a 20 hour countdown was presented on SuprNova’s front page.
If you go to the site now it might not look exactly how it was originally, it might not browse exactly as it did (if the original site had stayed there probably would have been a redesign anyway) but as soon as you see it you will be able to instantly recognise the site your on by its unique yellow skin, the layout the site uses and soon that nostalgic feeling will return. Furthermore the site will include a few new features and improvements over the old design such as a much needed search function and the ability to download torrents without the need for a dedicated BitTorrent client. Even though the initial few weeks of the rebirth of SuprNova is to be considered public BETA testing the website is already tracking an impressive 1,046,851 torrents on 26,871 trackers, making it one of the biggest BitTorrent indexing site available (e.g. tracks more torrents than Mininova and only slightly less than TorrentSpy). Since the website is now under Pirate Bay control, Brokep an admin at TPB has wrote a very nice welcome message along with something that they are (in)famous for, a defiant message to all “non-internet loving companies”:
“This is how it works. Whatever you sink, we build back up. Whomever you sue, ten new pirates are recruited. Wherever you go, we are already ahead of you. You are the past and the forgotten, we are the internet and the future.”
The question though is, can SuprNova re capture the “magic” that made it such a massive website? Times have changed there is a lot more competition for your visits and being a torrent indexing site it offers nothing new over already established indexing sites and it index’s less torrents than some other sites. Maybe it will come out on top just because of its name, the nostalgic feeling of visiting the site or maybe it will bomb and fall into obscurity again (i doubt it) . Only time will tell… However it might not be how you exactly remember it, it might have been down for a long time but at the end of the day Legends never truly die no matter how many legal papers you throw at them! SuprNova.org has adapted, improved and risen from the ashes bigger, badder, stronger. I for one am glad its back!

This is great. The original is back. One difference i noticed that sorta sucks is that the audio section is not divided into genres of music anymore. Makes it harder to pick through all the techno/electronic shit to get to some real music. Oh well, still awesome.
Hmm, i dont know but i started with ShareReactor back in 2000, not with SuprNova. But was ShareReactor was for the ed2k network, suprnova was for BT.

FANTASTIC! What a brilliant and welcome return to internet. Not quite as i remember but….
I think they need at least console & pc catagories in the game section, tv & movie catagories, and perhaps some genres for the music section.
I wonder if Suprnova can still compete with TPB?
IMO TPB is 10x better!
The video section isn’t divided by genres anymore either. There used to be an Asian film section, Sci-fi section, Horror section, etc. Oh well, maybe in the coming months they will return as well.

I get stuck at the point where I have an E-mail sent to my address. When I click on the verification link in the E-mail, it gives an error on the website:
“Unable to complete your registration.
The authentication code that were specified in the address seems to be invalid.”
Pirate Bay is torrent-tracker, Suprnova is torrent-indexer. It’s impossible for them to “compete”

i thought they are going to release the old site’s design and the very original features and all, but they rather launched a whole new thing which doesn’t have too much in common with the real legend. in this state, it’s just another torrent site with nothing extra to offer…

There was just a bust in Toronto where 75000 Pirated DVD’s were confiscated. They have now deemed the posession of Pirated DVD’s a crime. “Posession of stolen property obtained by criminal means” Yet they have no idea where the movie’s came from. Even thou almost every public torrent is being traced. (Really Ridiculous that nobody is looking for these IP’s and leaving it up to us to use PeerGuardian) Wondering if SuprNova will end up the same as TPB by offering you nothing of what u look for when u search, or even worst like IsoHunt were all the torrents are fake and traced. I’m glad to see SuprnNova back up but how long u think we have left with the Torrents????????

Cant say I am all too impressed, too many other sites offer equal or better search options and are categorized a little better, but does bring back some old memories…. hopefully some improvements are on the way. Will give it a miss for a few weeks to a month sticking to my regulars for pub and hopefully by then things will be in order, either way thanks for informing the masses.
They should have left it buried so we would have fond memories of how great it was; this is like a poorly done remake of a classic.
