OK, here's the deal plain and simple. Terry Goodkind was involved in this series (he says so on his site). So to say it "violates the spirit" of his books is silly since it's his creation and his spirit involved.

As for the "major plot points?" OK I assume you're talking about the facts that A) Richard hadn't memorized the book and B) Richard's mother issue.

For A) I will point out that it's later revealed (in the end of the book series) that THAT COPY of the book that was burned was irrelevant. They've made a "Moses" style prophecy to explain the reason for hunting Richard. And lastly there's more than one way to skin that cat.

For B) you need to remember that Zed lies about Richard's geneology for quite some time... so this is nothing new.

They have 22 episodes to get him from the Westlands to D'hara to face Rahl. The original book was NOT chock full of 22 sequences work of evenly spaced action... and this is an ACTION SERIES. Some liberties and changes HAVE to have been made. Deal with it.

It's like people griping about the loss of Tom Bombadil from the first Lord of the Rings movie...

I just watched ep3 and have to say I'm through watching this. It's so different, but made myself get over it. When it took a turn to be cheesy, such as when Kahlan caught up to the carriage Richard was on, on foot, is when I stopped and looked for where I kept the books intending to re-read them.

I pictured Kahlan to be more slender and Richard to be much better built. Kahlan had green eyes I thought too. D'Harans were supposed to blonde with blue eyes and relatively good looking.

Ok, I felt the need to make a post on here in part because I agree with what most of you have said of the Seeker series and also in response to "Wiz". Not only are these episodes loosely based on the Goodkind books but they changed some major not minor changes. Take for example the relationship between Richard & Zed. A major underlying subtext of all of the novels is Richard's ability to maintain his sense of self and they portrayed it as though Richard too thought Zed to be a "crazy old man". Also the book of Counted Shadows...um wasn't that burned and the whole reason that Darken Rahl wanted to get to Richard was because he had memorized it and therefore Rahl needed the info that was in Richards head? Why would he seek Richard out otherwise? Why would he continue his quest of Richard (true seeker or not) if he already had the book? Also, if you remember from the books, Zed may be a wizard of the first order, but a true seeker names himself. In the pilot episode they had Zed naming a reluctant Richard rather than vice versa. In the book Zed didn't want that burden on Richard and was almost moved to tears to hear Richard name himself a seeker of truth. Overall I give the series a resounding 6 out of 10. Great action sequences, ok casting (they could have done better on Zed & Richard) and really sucky screenwriting. I think if they'd stuck to the original story (like so many of us true fans have been hoping for) they would have a more solid fan base. As it is I just Tivo and watch when I get around to it. Sorry, better luck next time!

Okay, watched eps 1 + 2. Differed quite a lot from the original book. No Vanishing manhood for one and correct explanation about how to become a seeker.

If I never read the book however, this makes a series worth the time watching.
The crews did pretty good job with this series compared to Merlin. Cheers.

I read the entire Sword of Truth book.

A little disappointment when the 1st minute already differed from the book itself. Thinking Richard will look a little more buff and Zedd a little more frail. But I guess thats difference between fiction and reality.

A wonderful book. Not sure about the series in overall. I will refrain flaming before i saw the whole thing.

I can see similarities to the book, but it's been changed around for action and suspense rather than be an epic adventure. I wouldn't be surprised if entire books were through in 2-4 episodes.

There's not enough oomph to the action though... wizard's fire was extremely weak. Richard's dance of death (Sword of Truth's true power) looks awful. Kahlan's confessor power doesn't have the same shockwave effect.

I will continue watching it, but I'm not impressed at all at their execution. I'm just in it to see the story.

While I would agree that this SHOW is a mix of some of the aforementioned fantasies, I challenge you to show me the Harry Potter in this.

And the books are original and very engrossing.

If you're bored with an hour, watch this show, if you're bored with a long time, read the books. (Wizard's First Rule and the rest of the Sword of Truth series)
