The Kooks – Konk [Retail] – 2008

New album by british indie hero’s ‘ The Kooks. Some of you might say this album was already released some weeks ago by a group called BnL (The_Kooks-Konk-2008-BnL, pred 18.03. But now we get the real deal from respected grp DV8, tagged as retail. No Loser Stuff from BnL ;>. Anyways i fell in love with this band when they scored a hit with ’she moves in her own way’. Sweet Candy!

The band formed at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music, where they were all students. Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Luke Pritchard got bassist Max Rafferty involved in a college project, which formed the base of the band. After getting lead guitarist Hugh Harris and drummer Paul Garred involved, they chose a band name from a song off the 1971 David Bowie album Hunky Dory, entitled “Kooks”. When Virgin tried to trademark the name, they found that in the late/mid 1990s a Swedish band by the same name released a single in Sweden called “Too Much of Nothing”.

The Kooks released a debut EP and played Brighton’s Free Butt festival, and were instantly signed to Virgin Records. Pritchard wrote The Kooks’ hit song “Naïve” when he was only fifteen years old, which after release catapulted the debut album, Inside In/Inside Out into the UK Top 20 charts for more than half of 2006. The album has sold more than a million copies and has attained triple platinum status. During a promo tour, the band refused to be interviewed on Channel 4’s Popworld after presenter Simon Amstell made repeated references to Pritchard’s ex-girlfriend, Katie Melua.

A horrible band, lacking in any kind of originality, and there is no such genre as indie, especially when they are signed to Virgin.
    I hate the kooks.
    Nice rls! OMGSZ!

@8 I would say I would have to be on drugs to listen to this but usually I just listen to Merzbow and pass out.

@5 I agree. Their music is as generic as apple pie. They are definitely NOT indie, they are on VIRGIN RECORDS. If you want indie, try TILT back in 1989. Those scenester haircuts tell all- just more capitalists that dont care about music, OR poisoning our collective consciousness with mindless dribble

@5 i agree. but we live in a stupid world, with stupid people that want stupid music about stupid topics made by stupid musicians for the sake of stupid stupidness. and for the copyright owneres being able to get them another room full of anal dildos mad of gold and diamonds

Why isn´t “Duffy – Rockferry” posted on RLS yet? She´s very hot now, and I just bought her album and “Mercy” is my favorite song right now (and I am a Metal and Hip Hop head..:D)

This is more like wanna-be-college-radio crap. When you sign a label, you’re no longer “indie” but sold out as the case would be with anyone who signs to the Virgin label. Not only that but being in the business everyone knows that Virgin will bend you over and take your inner Virgin.

i did like their first album but i must admit there is A LOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT of these “indie” bands nowadays. Perhaps too many so a lot of the songs lack originality. Saying that though this album is still nice for a couple of listens :)

and the strokes are just a rip-off of every 70s-90’s indie band.

I like indie, but most of it is just formulaic, generic rich white kids playing the same toss over and over again.

The_Kooks_-_Konk-Special_Limited_Edition-2CD-2008-YSP is the one to get if you really must listen to konk though, dv8 are the most useless “group” ever.
