how do you make greek subs show correctly with greek alphabet on VLC playback?
They always show as garbled characters on screen, while other foreign language subs including chinese show correctly.

The next week here in Greece is coming out “Diorthosi” by Thanos Anastopoulos probably the best Greek movie of this season, and as it is expected no one is going to watch it, because a)it’s not a comedy b)it’s an Independent production even for a Greek movie. Our government unforunately recognized their mistake after the first screening at Thessaloniki’s Film Festival. This is something that happens all the time.

Just to say as i’m Greek too and “Spirtokouto” is one movie that deserves more recognition and surely a nice rls. “El Greco” too deserves a rls,might have weak directing but the acting is quite good there too.As for the “Kiss Of Life” its ok to watch but totally forgettable except for Zeta Duka’s ass lol.

@77. Agreed many of greek movies are targeted towards a greek speaking/cultured audience. But if by wanting to address a more international audience means turning them into Un-holly-wood rip-offs like this one, it’s better to stay local. Surely careful/flexible writing is needed for a comedy to come across internationally and keep both audiences pleased but the drama movies are fine for export. It’s just that nobody cares to expose them abroad. A pity.
I’d like to believe that Aggelopoulos’ cinema is not the best we have to offer. Outdated? That’s a very mild understatement.
But I think we’re on the same side.

@76. I’ve seen all the movies that you’ve mentioned above and many more, my job also is related to the cinema, i’m an editor and sound engineer. I admit that i forgot “Spirtokouto” and also “Vasillias” by Nikos Grammatikos, both of them were excellent movies. The problem is that many of the Greek movies aren’t for people outside Greece. Nobody foreigner is going to laugh with “5 Lepta akoma” or “Loufa kai parallagi” although they are pretty good movies for us, you must admit that the only known Director outside Greece, at this time, is Aggelopoulos, witch his cinema nowdays is very outdated. Oh! i also forgot CCTV by Vassilis Katsikis but that dosen’t change anything.

Nice way to ditch your country, must be really proud of yourself. If you KNOW nothing and have nothing to say, then say nothing! (aka STFU! )
And start looking for greek movies other than what’s being served to you. Here’s a list to start from:

Spirtokouto (2003) (Σπιρτόκουτο)
Agrypnia (2005) (Αγρύπνια)
5 Lepta akoma (2006) (5 λεπτά ακόμα)
Ores koinis isixias (2007) (Ώρες κοινής ησυχίας)
Women’s Conspiracies (2007) (Γυναικείες συνωμοσίες)

Doubt that you know half of them.
You should consider constructive criticism next time and avoid generalisations.

Bad movie, but the problem is that there aren’t any good movies from Greece. The last one i can remeber was “Dekapentavgoustos” back from 2001. Unfortunately here in Greece our only culture temperament is to send bad songs in Eurovision, when countries like Denmark or even Romania, the last years, gives us excellent movies. If you like Greek islands, though, check this movie.

The movie is not good, but at least there’s Katerina to look at.
It’s the first Greek release on the site, although I remember that there’s a Greek editor here (or was at some point). I hope we see more of them.
