It’s because someone had the kindness of releasing this film out so people can have a smaller file to download. 2 CD’s have a better quality compared to 1 CD, but hay the quality with 1 CD aint that bad when your getting something for free.
I say this…if you complain, THEN JUST BUT THE DAMN DVD WHEN IT COMES OUT!

checked both with my headphones (HD25’s) and the mVs release is way clearer, has much less noise and is deff line audio.

another point that asteroids , always used to be 2cds even if its not nesesary ,

It can be put on 1 disc version cause the audio doesn’t have to be coded in high bitrates as the source isn’t high quality anyways (in contrary to 5.1 AC3 rips)
and image quality loss will be negligible (see aXXo: sucky audio + decent image makes 700MB rips).

he’s right about the subtitles…opened it in notepad and they had the timecode for that sub lasting from 8 mins to like 11 or something like that.
Just fix it to last 2 seconds instead of 3 minutes.

aXXo releases are 100% 1in1 scene duplicates or, what is the worst, 2cd to 1cd reencoded versions with vbr to 128 kbs cbr audio… How to prove? Just try any 2cd Diamond release subtitle with the 1 cd aXXo avi, first srt will fit perfectly…
But aXXo avis always have normal or good quality.

No, probably not. Scene rules forbit it and why would you even want it?
An avi with a seperate .srt is as compatible as an avi without .srt
If you want to hardcode yourself, try virtual dub. Best you end up with is a fast recompressed xvid. Wouldn’t recommend it.

PS: Asteroids version is perfect….you just need to turn-off the EQ….I watched it on GOM Player and it sounded perfect….also turn on normalizer and also add audio filters to reduce the hiss sound….

lol. Ok, fixing subs takes 10 minutes, just edit the .srt file in Notepad and fix the spelling mistakes. Speed over quality indeed.

It should last for say 2 seconds (as fixed above), or whatever you think is appropriate to convey the meaning, emotion, dramatic timing and the general cinematic correctness of all things.
Apart from that, there is no great issue with this release. As for the sync issue, you can only discern it if you really look for it. Sync issues bug me, but this didn’t, it’s very very minor. Audio is good and clear, tho I haven’t played it on the HiFi yet, just the PC. Seems fine though.

first how do i hard code the subs into an avi file that works—i use win avi 8.0 but it never recognize the subs

to get the sub to work i threw the subs fix into the same folder as the movie (un rar it) and open ffdshow video decoder configuration check the subtitles press apply. you all welcome
used convertXtoDvD to add the subs but they weren’t added (both were in same folder and same file names),used 184’s advice and the came up in windows media player.any advice on what to do.

r.e my comment at 185 thought subs would be hard encoded did not realise i would have to use subtitle button on my dvd remote(duh!)
I use the xmbc to play back all the movies I’ve dl’d and the subs played fine, I thought. What do I know….

okay, sorry for being so ignorant, but i have been trying for hours to get my subs to work… i d/l the subfix, put them in the folder with my movie, click on my movie, go to 8:37 in the movie, and i don’t get anything.. can someone give me a lamen’s fix for this?? i am playing in windows media player on my puter. is there a button for subs that i am missing? please help.

Have you downloaded and installed vobsub (google search)?
Both the sub file and the movie file need to have exactly the same file name. Then, when you play the movie, vobsub automatically kicks in and display the subs.

Help Help Help having probs inserting subs. Tried winavi and convertxtodvd. Any ideas out there on what convertor to use or should I say the easiest. changed the sub file name to movie name .srt and will not tie in with movie to convert. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks ;(

this is better. video 10/10, audio 9/10. there’s no reason to nuke it. this is not a cam audio from what i can tell. the fixed subtitle works just fine.
FYI… watched without subtitles… didn’t understand the foreigners… didn’t matter, still a darn good movie. 8.0 for me.
Audio was fine, video was fine, too many finicky reviewers here… maybe we should have a normal people scale and a videophile scale, so comments/values are relative!

Does the subs stop working around the middle of the movie. I watched it with mvs subfix and the grammar nazi’s subfix and they both don’t have subs after the 1hr mark
