eXtaCY must have woke up from a deep slumber to have decided to PROPER this old release. They’ve allegedly fixed the cropping and traded the AC3 audio for MP3 in order to improve the video bitrate. This is just another chance for you to get this funny documentary if you haven’t already, that’s all.
Synopsis: In 2003, 35 year old family man Steve Wiebe, after losing his job at Boeing, found solace in Donkey Kong. Steve stumbled upon Billy Mitchell’s record online, and set out to break it. He began perfecting his game every night after his wife and kids went to bed, and not only surpassed Billy’s record, but ended up with a thought-to-be-impossible 1,000,000 points. A tidal wave of media coverage followed, and Steve Wiebe quickly became a celebrity in his hometown of Seattle, WA. He also rediscovered his love for teaching, and regained the respect of all who once doubted him. Meanwhile, back in Hollywood, FL, Billy Mitchell hatched a plan to reclaim his fallen Donkey Kong record… In the months that followed, Steve and Billy engaged in a cross-country duel to see who could set the high score that would be included in the 2007 Guinness World Records’ book and become The King of Kong. Along the way, both men learned valuable lessons about what it means to be a father, a husband, and a true champion… discovering that you don’t always need to win to be a winner.

I think If you were playing Kong (and milipede, defender, pacman etc) when they hit the arcades as I was then you’ll probably enjoy this documentary for the nostalgia value – especially in the archive footage – those platform shoes, flared checked pants, the floral, wide collared shirts, and that hair!!! ahh this takes me back….er..what was the movie about?

One of the best documentary i’ve ever seen.
This doc has been around for a while. Should be easy to find on isohunt.com. Very interesting doc on the politics of the “big time nerd” world of gaming. Nice guy nerd schoolteacher Steve Wiebe (rhymes with dweeby : )from Seatle travels east several times to call out the one time big kahunanerd Billy Mitchell who seems to be trying to avoid a Donkey Kong Showdown. Will Billy cowboyup and be man enough to accept Wiebe’ challeng or will squirm his way and instesd try to live on his past glories and (here’s the dark conspiracy angle) if Steve does manage set a new record will it be recognized or will some degree of scrutiny be applied (unfairly?) to deny him the record. Great nerd vid. You will enjoy the ending because you are reading this and therfore nerdy : )))

The problem appears to be from the eXtaCY release, which counts for all the links on this page. Could be wrong… only 1 other person has mentioned sync problems so far.

The general quality seems to be good. It’s just a fraction out of sync, which may be good enough for some but I personally find it really distracting.

Things went down quite a bit differently than the doco implies.
