@31 im going to have to respectfully disagree. to call british comedy more intelligent is quite a bold and untrue statement. and to call american comedy full of fart jokes, people falling over, etc, is quite silly. some comedies contain that content, but so do some british comedies

I live in Scotland UK, and I hate British TV. The only things I watch here are Doctor Who and Top Gear. The rest I download from USA.

I’m not gonna download this because i expect it to be rubbish.

You really have to watch a series called Spaced. It has most of the cast from Shaun of The Dead and has the same humour. Also sketch shows like Little Britain and of course Peep Show are very good.

I think American humour is more slapstick than British Humour. It’s full of Farts, people falling over, getting hit in some way or another and in the case of most Teen comedies…Light Drugs. Americans were brought up on comedies like The Three Stooges and thus find slapstick funny. British People were brought up on Comedies with word play and thus prefer the more intelligent type. Neither is better but more down to Heritage.

I’ve only watched Mind Your Language and Bean.
I’m fan of British comedy,after watching Guy Ritchie’s and Simon Pegg’s movies.

but you have to understand its not a matter of americans being “stupid” its a matter of americans —being in america. when i watch british humor, i understand everything that doesn’t deal with references… or certain words that i am unfamiliar with. both of those things require you to 1. watch lots and lots of british comedy to understand them over time -or- 2. live there.

and since i dont live there, and i havent seen enough of their comedy, i am unable to understand some of the jokes.

i know you didn’t flat out say americans are stupid, but you imply it in a few of your sentences, so i just wanted to address the subject

OK i’ve just been teasing lol..i know i shoulda said in my opinion bla bla lol. anyway on a more serious note…

Nah i do understand american humour..whats not to understand. american humour is so obvious and in your face. with british humour its more to do with the characters, scenarios and irony rather than something funny and tangible happening like in american humour. i just prefer humour when its not so obvious and in your face.

however i’m glad to know that british humour isnt entirely lost on the yanks…they found Shaun of the Dead funny so they must understand it a bit.
