Releaselog

The Headbang Academy is giving its first lesson today.

Hello long haired fans of the Metal music genre. I always wanted to share bands I like with the masses and now I have the opportunity to do so. This sampler was created with the help of Flawz and Jesse from the RLSLOG forums, Darkje and of course myself. Our goal is to give you some new bands to listen to without having the hassle to browse e.g. MySpace for hours and listen to songs in a shitty quality :P . I can just speak for me in this part, but I do prefer scene when it comes to music, although there are also quite a few good “p2p” releases. So, the actual tracks on the sampler might be

  1. Scene RLS
  2. Self-Ripped
  3. P2P

We still added the release name in the nfo though, so you can grab the scene rls then :)

Alright students, we have 12 tracks to work through, so lets get it on.

We will start with a nice CoB’ish sounding band, Made of Hate and move on to the well known Thrashers Testament. After these two “light” songs we get our first Technical Death Metal song called “Spheres of Madness” from our polish friends Decapitated. To calm down a bit, our forth track is some nice Power/Folk Metal from Elvenking, an Italian band I really enjoy. Now it’s time to create some ear damage, so As I Lay Dying, a famous Metalcore band instigates some harder growls, peaking in The Berzerker’s “Betrayal” – some wicked Industrial Death/Grind.

After that chaotic song we move to more Melodic styles of Metal, but Born of Osiris a Progressive Death/Metalcore group, give us their tunes in track 7 first. Now we switch to some Melodic Death/Power Metal as I said and back to Italy, where Raintime awaits. Moving forward to some more gentle sounds so we slow down to the voice of Kevin James LaBrie, the lead singer of the very famous Progressive Metal band Dream Theater. We still stay with a melodic sound now, but we pick um some speed, Hammerfall a Heavy/Power Metal band enlightens us with their anthem Hammerfall. We are almost at the end, just 2 tracks missing. Some oldskool Norwegian Black Metal by Immortal and our finisher Borthers in Arms by a finnish band: Northern Kings. A Heavy Metal group consisting of very famous musicians like Marco Hietala from Nightwish and Tony Kakko from Sonata Arctica.

Classes are over. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Wicked post, imo death in fire by amon amarth deserves to be up there .

  42. April 13th, 2008 | 15:50

    hey
we are not trying to make *ANY* compilation. our goal is to promote some more unknown stuff, together with known things. so if we would remove 2 of those unknown bands up there and replace them with amon amarth and opeth our intension would be lost. i hope you appreciate that :)

    April 13th, 2008 | 16:34

Though Dream Theater is the greatest band in the universe, you should have maybe put something from the Train of thought album on there for a metal compilation. If you want to hear real metal Dream Theater listen to As I Am, This Dying Soul, or Honor Thy Father, or just listen to all of it. I’m glad you added them to this compilation though, that Brother’s in arms cover was pretty neat.

    Metal for life!

    April 13th, 2008 | 17:22

those aren’t “lesser known” to many true metal fans. They are the pop of the ‘underground’. If you want underground, real, true stuff, check most of the nutso grindcore/brutal metal/Crustcore genre…use soulseek, alotta squatter friends that retired the road life use it now and ahve a good library of stuff they’ve seen at venues the world ’round…

  63. April 13th, 2008 | 17:26

at some point true @ m0.
but tbh. i dont want to promote crappy garage-band metal here aswell :)

    @ 40,

Then it should also include DEATH(Chuck Shuldiner…R.I.P.)!!
Without Mr. Shuldiner the genre of Death Metal would hardly exist!

I suggest the song: “Mentally Blind”

    @Over
What do you think about one metal compilation where bands sing in their native language. I cant find one decent metal band singing for example in spanish or italian. And i really could use another german singing band besides the obvious one :)

    Infected Mushroom – Becoming Insane
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6hL6fkJ1_k

Okay okay, thats more trance than metal but god damn i wanted to hear some hebrew metal after that video :D

Raintime was new to me and their song was great!
Btw, new Disturbed due next month ^^

And my contribution, some less known but still pretty damn good bands.

Scars of Life – Bullet With Your Name
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Djf7Rxwproo

    Scar Symmetry – The Illusionist
