Chaps from LRC bring us a very nice release for Friday’s evening: a dvdscreener of The Golden Compass. Although this movie didn’t meet its expectations, it’s still a nice family flick to watch and this screener means a great progress in quality since the last telesync. The quality is perfect with no visible watermarks and crystal clear AC3 stereo (CBR though).

Based on author Philip Pullman’s bestselling and award-winning novel, The Golden Compass tells the first story in Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy. The Golden Compass is an exciting fantasy adventure, set in an alternative world where people’s souls manifest themselves as animals, talking bears fight wars, and Gyptians and witches co-exist. At the center of the story is Lyra (played by newcomer Dakota Blue Richards), a 12-year-old girl who starts out trying to rescue a friend who’s been kidnapped by a mysterious organization known as the Gobblers - and winds up on an epic quest to save not only her world, but ours as well.

    @Duck Other than a “For Your Consideration” at the bottom once in a while and the movie being cropped to hide the watermark I do not see any B&W scenes or anything else wrong with it.

    just to let you guys know, I have seen only 1 “For Your Consideration” message which was at the very begging of the film and along the bottom of the screen and only lasted a few seconds then faded out. I have yet to see any messages or any b&w scenes/watermarks.

    Going to be honest with you SQrL, I don’t think we care very much. If you want to believe in God, do so. I have no issue with that but please don’t impose your view on others. If people watch this film and decide not to believe in God, then clearly “God” already knew that and those people are going to “hell” anyway :). So no worries. As religious people always say “God is all knowing, and all seeing”. If that is indeed the case, then who cares.

    if #131 (SQrL) had his way this film would probably be banned. who are you to judge what is truth or not? let people write, say and film whatever they want, and let everyone make up their own mind from the books that are written, the words that are spoken, the films that are shot, the pictures that are taken, the art that is painted, rather than telling people what to believe.

    I enjoyed reading the books, but the IMDB rating for this (6.6) looks dissapointing. I hope they make films of the 2nd and 3rd books.

    Thanks Vito and to Lizo for the how to on Yastorage. Now I need a how to for Flyupload. Do they really expect you to trudge through 10 screens of repetitive popus and BS to get to the dl?? That’s a RL SLOG. Anyone know a shortcut through that maze of cr@p?

    As for the movie I’ll give it a 6. It didn’t suck but, it didn’t quite blow my kilt up either and they had no respect for my demon whisky. Any kid who enjoys Harry Potter will enjoy this one too.

    Had to chuckle at the religious thread. Be nice if we could just send all the religious fundies over the edge of their flat earth. I swear if you overlook their outer appearances (suits, robes, turbans, whatever)they all spew the same hate. They be killin in the name of the lord - how nice

    How do i open the files, ive downloaded them all but they are not recognised. Ive tried adding .rar on the ends but no good, ive tried changing the .zip to .rar no good. What do i need to do?

    every time I load this movie - it says there is a disk error and completely disappears as though it was never there.. Am I the only one that this is happening too???
