The Game Scene Chart Issue #6

The warez scene produces many interesting stuff. The most obvious are releases, which basically appears all over the internet few moments after pre. They are also used for re-encoding by another wanna-be sceners, who don’t have their own sources but try to release something. The ideal example of this would be the latest release from aXXo, which always appears few days after “official” scene dvdrips.

But there are also other releases, which usually don’t appear on public and are harder to get. Good example would be these NFOs informing about massive scene busts, released almost a year ago and published here at Releaselog. Another classic example is NFO informing about some leaker, person who offers access to site for money or any other scene bastard. These are usually intended for relatively close group of people, and it would have no use to put in on public.

Finally, there’s also the last kind of NFO releases, which are informing about news on the scene, defining standards and rules, and also comparing activity of release groups. They are called Scene Chart Issues and I’ll just offer you one copy of it (thx Matej). Out there exist charts for all kind of releases, but I think Game one will be enough for now. It’s actually the sixth issue of this Scene Chart, which was released independent group of sceners purely for informative reasons.

Groups are honoured by points for every kind of their activity:

  • A cracked game release : 8.0 points
  • A clone game release : 6.0 points
  • A unprotected game release : 5.5 points
  • A cracked game update : 4.0 points
  • A trainer for a game release : 2.0 points, plus additional 0.1 point for each trainer option above 1 option, the trainer has.
  • Bonus discs/ Interactive dvds : 2.0 points
  • A online patch for a game release : 2.0 points
  • A savegame generator for a game release : 2.0 points
  • A keygen generator for a game release : 2.0 points
  • Non official game addons for a game release : 2.0 points
  • A NoCD/NoDVD crack for a game release : 1.5 points
  • An unlocker for a game release : 1.5 points
  • A cheat for a game release : 1.0 points
  • Other kinds of game related releases (covers, manuals) : 0.5 points

As you can see, the main focus is aimed on cracking – this is also the hardest technique, so groups receive most points for releasing a cracked game. There are also other rules of course, but I won’t write about all of them here, you can read it on your own. This Chart comes with win32 application in the style of keygen, or just in pure NFO files. Here are few lines commenting the last month:

As predicted, then January was a pretty dull month. It was a month with zero
really quality titles and only a few decent ones. Good new is that the dox
flooded the release sites, like nude jumping titties on a warm summer day at
the beach. Damn, we miss the summer :)

January was a very clear winner for Unleashed, they totally rocked this month,
meaning the took and conquered the first position. The only group which also
showed an fantastic process is the new group called HATRED/HATEDOX, which took
the second position, followed by I_KnoW. A really huge shock this month was to
see RELOADED dropped down to number 13. SACRED did a huge jump with 24 places.

Finally, here are first few groups from the Chart, ranked by earned points. This is overall ranking (well, considering last 6 months, not whole existence of these groups) and I’m happy to see Reloaded on the top, although they aren’t that active lately and had released also some non working cracks lately.

    care line: – (short)

aXXo actually is the best, atleast he doesn’t produce bin/cue files meant for stupid noobs that don’t know how to burn a cd from an avi file and it reduces the quality to a telesync.

I know they were, but in a sense, I don’t think that many new groups will achieve what they created.

    February 26th, 2007 | 00:04

Thanks for this very interesting on how the game scene works.Reloaded drop might be that they rushed their releases to try and hold of the competition, but had to release game fixes as a result. Please keep us informed of the rankings again thanks.

    February 26th, 2007 | 00:12

really interesting. how much of this is public? can I get more nfos and such on usenet or is it all only circulated amongst the groups themselves and higher tiers of the release topology?

aXXo rips ALWAYS work on my standalone, and he never releases fucked-up garbage like most the other scenesters do.

I think y’all should have a points system for movie crews too, but also deduct points everytime they release a total piece of shit and call it a ‘dvdrip’ or when they release something with terribly out-of-sync audio – maybe then, instead of desperately racing each other to release some crap first, someone will actually check (like aXXo) to see if the damn thing works.

the scene died with the start of broadband…

I like Reloaded games and Axxo movies. I previously liked another popular group, but they got busted and have not seen their stuff anymore, but when one dies 2 take their place!

    February 26th, 2007 | 02:36

Yes old stupid question, what exactly pre means..

  33. Kln
    February 26th, 2007 | 02:39

The word ‘Pre’ used in the scene is short for Present. Most gay noobs like the people on this site think it’s the short word for pre-release.

  34. arturo
    February 26th, 2007 | 02:51

You know, some of the best releases are internal, like those of iRO on the music scene. Because they’re actually made after the thing goes retail, so its pristine quality. It kinda beats the purpose of getting it before release, but its way better quality, and always free.

  35. February 26th, 2007 | 03:13

@supplex: god damn you’re 1337. I wish I had the courage to spend all my time writing needlessly optimised graphics tests, and then send them over my 56k modem…
