A super popular action flick The Forbidden Kingdom starring Jet Li and Jackie Chan is finally available in a decent quality after the first cam - PUKKA released their traditional R5 rip from Russian video source. The quality is awesome as usually and I really recommend this martial arts fantasy movie to everyone. Unless you need subtitles, there’s no need to wait for anything better!

In “Forbidden Kingdom,” American teenager Jason (Michael Angarano), who is obsessed with Hong Kong cinema and kungfu classics, finds an antique Chinese staff in a pawn shop: the legendary stick weapon of the Chinese sage and warrior, the Monkey King (Jet Li). With the lost relic in hand, Jason unexpectedly finds himself transported back to ancient China. There, he meets the drunken kungfu master, Lu Yan (Jackie Chan); an enigmatic and skillful Silent Monk (Jet Li); and a vengeance-bent kungfu beauty, Golden Sparrow (Crystal Liu Yi Fei), who lead him on his quest to return the staff to its rightful owner, the Monkey King - imprisoned in stone by the evil Jade Warlord (Collin Chou) for five hundred years.

    all people requesting subs -

    does it make sense to you that

    1)this is an R5, not an R1 release, so subtitles obviously didn’t come with the retail DVD
    2)this has been released by pukka less than 24 hours ago, therefore:

    if there will EVER be subs for the mandarin parts, it will be a while, as someone speaking english and mandarin has to download it first, translate and create a .srt, then post it to a subtitle site

    really, you guys are fkn spoiled with this rlslog , ddl links, and not having a clue how this sht works, just jumping on rlslog first thing and rudely requesting/ begging for sh1t

    @13 nice one, matey. :) Sharebase.de is nice and quick, and no 95 minute way between parts for unpaid rapidshare. You can’t download more than one simultaneously but the interchangeable sources takes care of that. Appreciated. :)

    Hey Joe,

    1) I believe people do know that there is a difference.
    2) There are already two (2) .srt files out there. They just kinda suck. However, they may work with some polishing.

    Yes we are spoiled. It has gotten incredibly easy to download movies these days. If you don’t want to read our spoiled little comments, then quit reading them or go somewhere else.

    and anyways, the intelligent comment is still to be found here, though few and far between, so i can wade through the BS…

    I watch a movie….if I like it I BUY it and add it to my collection. I don’t add internet downloads to my collection….what would be the point of that?

    let’s clear this up

    1. Yes this film does require subtitles, because there are no hardcoded subs and there are parts in the film where they are speaking Chinese/Mandarin etc.

    2. All the subs that have been listed so far are not working, for one, because they have errors in the .srt files, but when fixed they still are not in sync with the film whatsoever.

    i just burnt/threw this into the standalone divx player, and
    YES, it does need subtitles…

    all the parts where the kid isn’t present are in mandarin, so basically Jackie and Jet speak english to the white kid, but all the enemies’ dialogue are in mandarin

    all you get are the lame comedy lines in english

    the movie i just reviewed it is mostly english and a few minutes of mandrin. Go download rosetta stone and learn mandrin LOL then it isn’t a problem.

    I don’t know how feasible this would be, but it seems the simplest route to getting subs would be to have to sit through a cam version maybe? Just throwing around ideas…

    re: how much mandarin in movie/need for english subs….

    @ 137 is right…(mandarin only occurs 2-3 times in movies and only for ~1 min each….so you MUST know everything being said…no subs are needed (Story line/dialogue runs great without those few non-english translations.

    BTW…awesome movie!!!!!

    For people who want accurate info,

    A R5 isnt just a “Region 5″ DVD source that is synced to english audio, Scene R5’s are actually legally made TELECINEs released early for the russian market to compete with the illegaly made ones, TELECINE is the movie tranfered straight from the reel before it gets all the digital enhancements that R1/2’s get.

    Usually they only come with russian audio so LINE audio is needed to sync like on a TELESYNC, But sometimes like Forbidden Kingdom they come with English studio 5.1.

    @187 - It means you have to play around with the value for the subs in VLC. The 2600 (minus) means you have to delay the track that much, though for me it was more like 24000 (minus). But the ballpark figure seems correct (20+ thousand).

    Some white boy doing some kung fu bla bla bla and then he becomes the heroes. I found this very disrespectful to the Asian community. next thing you know, they’ll make a movie of jet li acting in some African tribe.
