The Devils Advocate 1997 WS DVDRiP DivX AC3-HLS

Staff picks logo

The year is 1997. Al Pacino still makes great movies, Keanu Reeves is at his prime, Charlize Theron is hotter than ever. This quality Crime/Thriller brings them all together for an exciting ride. If you’re a fan of the genre, or any of these excellent actors, then you will thoroughly enjoy this one.

Note: HLS released this on 2 CDs, including AC3 sound. Subtitles are also added in the torrent. Since this is a DivX release, some of you may be reluctant to try it. I’ve added samples to show you that quality is indeed very sharp, despite the inferior codec used.

Synopsis: Promising young lawyer Kevin Lomax (Keanu Reeves) has never lost a case–even when his client is guilty. When Kevin is seduced away from his sleepy hometown in Florida to work for a flashy, charming lawyer (Al Pacino, in a role he seems born to play), his mother (Judith Ivey) has reservations. But as he works his way up the corporate ladder, Kevin manages to put them aside, along with his wife’s (Charlize Theron) needs and the stirrings of his conscience over knowingly defending the guilty. However, his vanity won’t let him start losing now. As Kevin’s career skyrockets, his neglected wife Mary Ann begins to see evil, violent visions. Hoping a visit from his mother will help, instead Kevin finds himself confronted with a secret his mother has never told him.

    DivX per se isn’t an inferior codec, in fact its output is darn near close to that of XviD. I think it’s generally agreed that x264 does produce higher quality output than either DivX or XviD, at the expense of longer encoding times and high CPU usage when decoding the output. Assuming this is actually a very old release, dredged up in RLSLOG, it may well be encoded with the very old Divx 3.11 alpha codec, which can produce inferior output. Having said that, if you give enough bitrate to the movie, there’ll be very little in it.

    This film was released in the same year as one of the worst films of all time and the film that nearly brought the most corrupt ceremony in the film industry crashing down: Titanic.

    This was the best film of 1997 and one of the best films of all time, its critique of religion is fantastic and very well filmed. Al Pacino is his genius self and Keanu Reeves acts so much better than he did in the Matrix.

    Anyone who hasn’t as yet seen this, believe me you’ll want it in your collection. Like it or not, you won’t forget this flick in a hurry.

    @ /b/Lover: James Cameron’s “Titanic”, one of the worst films of all time? Tell that to the bankers. To date, and adjusted for inflation, it has grossed 2.3 BILLION dollars. No other film in the history of cinema even comes close.

    For lovers of seafaring vessels, the high seas and Cameron’s manic desire for detail, the following ranks among the best documentaries ever made and makes the likes of Michael Moore look like a neophyte: “James Cameron’s Expedition - Bismarck.”

    As too the Statement made by our Moderator ( I’ve added samples to show you that quality is indeed very sharp, despite the inferior codec used.)..This is UNTRUE ! Actually DivX is a SUPERIOR Codec, giving just a TAD better Quality then Xvid, When Encoding..The basic difference is DivX is PATENTED & U are supposed to Buy it, Xvid is open Source, & FREE..Therefor Xvid is more widely used. I’ve used both in certain Applications, and found DivX to deliver just a little better Quality.
    I would like to know where U got your info on DivX being inferior codec. Have U done any in depth investigation as to your Statement, or are U just using HEARSAY. Myself I’ve done quite a bit of research into this. Both are catorgized as AVI, Both Play fine in Your Players…Why do U think they call them DivX DVD Players [DivX Compliant ]. There not called AVI Players

    A great movie and Al pacino gives one of his finest preformances as the Devil. Not to mention the redhead is delicious as well! Yum…..

    Lets just hope that this is not another of the crappy mkv files. I downloaded the T2 and used the ConvertXtoDVD and it tossed the audio 30 seconds behind the picture. I tried mkv to avi and it did the exact same thing. Sad as this is one heck of a movie and the video was crisp and sharp. Hope this one has the same video makeup in an avi format or even an mp4 or divx…ANYTHING but this crappy mkv. Why anyone would use a poorly coded russian program is beyond rational sense.

    @28: LOL

    DivX is blurry crap. xvid is soooooooooo much nicer (x264 is even better). Check some codec shootouts or such (if you like it better, it’s because you like soft video, like a lot of n00bs). The only thing ppl like about DivX is that it’s easier to understand seemingly (n00bs like it), and brand recognition.

    It was removed due to a suit. Luckily I have the original movie
    “The National Cathedral in Washington and the artist who created a sculpture of the Bible’s creation story on its main entrance have sued the Warner Brothers movie studio, asserting that its film ”The Devil’s Advocate” displays a copy of the sculpture that distorts its religious meaning by making it appear demonic”
