I haven’t had the chance to watch this in cinemas though i heard it is pretty good. This is an Australian movie about Lebanese-Australians in the suburbs of Sydney. Good to see well known group releasing this one. After reading the plot it sounds something like American History X. Enjoy!
Set in the maligned western suburbs of Sydney, Lebanese-Australian John gets out of gaol to discover his younger brother Charlie is caught up with drugs, hookers and crime. Charlie oscillates between the streets and school. Daily clashes between Scott and Charlie’s gang escalate. This feud spills into the streets in a territory and identity battle that turns bloody. The Combination dares to shed light on the racial tension that has often boiled over into incidents like the Cronulla riots. Suburban stereotypes are challenged when John falls for an Australian girl named Sydney. She presents an opportunity for a new start – yet with each step closer to her he is made painfully aware of the choice he will have to make – family or love

Oi BuzzKillington stfu, this movie is a decent australian film, rls log do sometimes post stuff that I would prefer not to hear about but a decent international film is not one of these (im thinking more about apps etc.).

This is a good portrayal of lebs in Australia but the main character's a bit too noble to be one of them, though I suppose that he did just get out of gaol! This is very noticably similar to American History X but it's nice having a native version focused around real problems rather than africans which aren't the main issue in Australia – yet.

BTW this movie is just like American History X though with one of the worst love or romantic scene added to them. The girl couldn’t act as shite. Though they did say some powerful stuff about lebs and thier ways but it didn’t fool me.

I find it quite amusing when people pin point a race as the problem in the society when in actual fact its not as simple as it sounds. Simple answers are from simple minded people which equates to ignorance. Although its noticeable that some minority could cause problems its not their race that causes this but our own nature as humans. To say that a lebanese is a troublemaker is to say that I am ignorant.
I am not aussie nor lebanese for the record.
If you came from a war torn country and are getting shot at when you are under 10 years old, having to dodge bullets on the way home from school. Then go to a new country where you can't relate to anyone except for other people of the same culture. The problem is a closed minded culture. Be it by the Lebs or the racists. Only takes a few bad apples on both sides to spoil the bunch.
So what's the solution then if everyone can understand that these minorities (and majorities) cause friction between each other? Segregation? I think the world would be a lot better off if you had to travel to another country to see "different" people. Everyone admits if the world were one race we would be better off, but that is thousands of years away if ever, until then what do we do? Accept the violence and hate?
Japan has shipped off a lot of non pure japanese to maintain their culture and they have one of the lowest crime rates in the world, why can't other countries?
It doesn't matter what happened 200 years ago, white people are the majority in Australia and personally I hope it stays that way. We make the rules as the majority, at least we should make the rules. Going back to the past when native australians roamed about helps very little with regard to the current reality.
Australia is on the verge of becoming an extremely mixed up nation in regards to cultures, we are 12% asian and about 40-50% non european. Think of it like your wife getting a few extra boyfriends, you went from being the only guy in her life to one of 10. Do you still feel good? It's exactly the same way when you think about what sort of culture you want to see on the street and from your neighbours.
If I want to see people getting stabbed on the street I'll fly to lebanon, if I want to see people cultivating rice paddies I'll fly to china.
And for all you "multicultural" lovers why don't you try living in an all black/other race neighbourhood and see how good you feel. I have and the trouble experienced wasn't all in my head.
