ESPiSE have just brought us a highly rated (7.9 on IMDB) asian movie called The Children of Huang Shi. The movie features a recognizable cast that includes the likes of Chow Yu-Fat, Jonathan Rhys Meyers(Bend it like beckham) , Radha Mitchell (Silent hill) and Michelle Yeon (Crouching tiger) that should atleast make you click the download button. Additionally, the movie plot should strike some interest to you as it involves saving orphans and is meant to be based on a true story. As for the release, the movie quality is excellent and audio is loud and crisp, although it is a dvdscr, do expect some BW or some logo’s or text during the movie.
Plot: Inspired by true events, THE CHILDREN OF HUANG SHI is a portrayal both sweeping and intimate of people who, thrown into an unexpected and desperate situation, discover their capacity for love and responsibility. BEIJING — Chinese-Australian-German co-production “The Children of Huang Shi” had its premiere in the remote Hunan town in which the pic is set, part of a drive to tubthump the Jonathan Rhys Meyers starrer in the increasingly important China market. The $25 million pic, helmed by Roger Spottiswoode, tells the tale of a British journalist, George Hogg, who helped 60 Chinese orphan boys escape Japanese forces during World War II.
With the Japanese snapping at their heels as they made their western advance across China in 1944, and with the help of Mao Zedong’s Communist guerrillas, Hogg escorted the boys from Huang Shi across 688 miles of treacherous mountainous terrain in northwestern China to a temple town in Shandan. On his trek, Hogg meets Lee (Radha Mitchell), an Australian adventurer turned nurse, and falls in with a Chinese partisan leader, played by Chow Yun-Fat. Michelle Yeoh also cameos as an aristocratic survivor. The inclusion of popular Chinese thesps should help the pic’s local B.O.
Just one year after he arrived in the town, Hogg contracted tetanus after injuring a toe playing basketball with the students. With no medicines to stop lockjaw, he died at age 29. The circumstances of his death were changed slightly for dramatic effect in the film, but the pic remains true to his spirit, says helmer Spottiswoode, whose credits include “Hiroshima,” “Tomorrow Never Dies” and “Under Fire.

“It’s about an Englishman who wasn’t on either side. We are historically accurate. Terrible things happened. We have to look honestly at history,” Spottiswoode says.
The town was bedecked with red flags and film posters for the bow, and locals were excited at the arrival of the celebs. Rhys Meyers and Mitchell, off shooting other projects, were not available for the preem, but Chow laughed and joked with locals and visiting media.
The production piggybacks on co-production agreements between China and both Australia and the European Union. It is the first pic based on the official co-production treaty between China and the EU. Much of the pic was shot in Hengdian studios in eastern China.
Shot in Hubei and Gansu provinces, the pic bowed in Beijing April 3 and will show throughout China. A limited U.S. release is scheduled for May.

Maybe someone can help me here. I never know if a movie is going to have a part in a different language. I burn it, then next thing you know, there’s a five minute dialogue in say, Italian or something, and it throws off the whole movie because I didn’t know there would be subs.
What do you guys do, or how do you know when there will be subs?

I have to say I often wonder how the Chinese and Koreans do manage to see out of their very narrow eyes. I feel sorry for them as they have a natural disability, as well as an ugly disfigurement. At the Olympics we should give the `slit-eyed’ athletes a headstart in the events, because otherwise it will be extremely embarassing for them.

I have converted them using Vobsub 2.23. Though the quality of the original english IDX/SUB subtitle streams is only mediocre at best. Most of the time, the english subs do NOT match the actual spoken english dialogue.
The SRT is verbatim OCR output from the original subs. Except for some chinese signs, these could not get transferred into the ASCII (ansi) SRT files, not even into the unicode version (the SRT for CD2 is available in ansi and in Unicode - both get displayed identically, though).
Of course you have to rename either the AVI or the SRT files to get matching filenames.

What I intended to express with about statement is that the actual english wording is somewhat different from the english subtitles. They are in synch, though.

Movie Download for CD1 and CD2. If Using Convertxdvd After download rename the movie files to match the files in the cohs.rar subtitles file but dont change the file extension. Copy all the files in one directory and load in Convertxdvd. The will load with the movie when you choose the avi files. There are subs in english and chinese and these match the movies. They don’t translate the english as it is spoken in the movie but at least you know what the english is when spoken in Japanese. THese files match the cd1 and cd2 downloaded from the flyupload links.
IE:
Put the files in one directory of thier own before loading the avi files in Convertxdvd

The Subtitles for this file are so funny, the english subs are not even then same as the english parts and the english subs for the foreign parts are sometimes confusing.
You are even more confusing than the subs!…
I hate it when a movie is uploaded in 10-15 parts.. it’s so much better to download it as one whole thing…….. I’d like to see this movie very much, Jonathan is such a hottie
