The Border S01E01 HDTV XviD-2HD

A new Canadian-based series starts up as a mid-season replacement. Dubbed The Border, the hard-driving drama series confronts Canada’s toughest border-security issues and centres on the elite Immigration and Customs Security (ICS) Squad. I find the description of the first episode to be a bit ironic, as in 2002 the incompetent CSIS sent incorrect information to US authorites about Maher Arar, a telecommunications engineer. He was then deported to the middle east to be tortured by the CIA against the geneva convention rules. The Canadian government has publicly cleared Arar of any links to terrorism, and gave him a $10.5 million Canadian dollar settlement. The United States government, however, refuses to clear Arar’s name and continues to have both him and his family on a watchlist (for the lulz appearantly).

When CSIS sends a suspect to Syria to be tortured, the ICS Squad must race to prove him innocent.

    Borders do not work! We already seen that in Berlin and in China. We should have open borders!

    CBC has a bunch of new mid-season shows coming out. Some of them look interesting. I will be watching “jPod” first. This one, “The Border”, doesn’t interest me as much.

    Dang, thanks again for all the Canadian stuff. Were totally benefiting from the WGA strike. And I think this is the first time we’ve even mentioned the name CSIS on tv. CSIS being Canada’s CIA.

    ” He was then deported to the middle east to be tortured by the CIA against the geneva convention rules. ”

    I’m pretty sure the Geneva Convention agreements only apply to treatment of captured enemy military combatants, and not to private citizens accused of crimes. So while one could argue that such treatment is unethical, I don’t understand how the geneva convention has anything to do with the situation… or the post for that matter.

    what’s with the comment on politics comparing to a fictional TV show? nice that you recognise arar and his plight, but c’mon, you’re confusing fiction and non-fiction in the description of a tv show. irrelevant.

    great show so far.

    @6 – it’s not propaganda, you’d know this if you watched it. instead you comment on something you admit you haven’t seen. nicely done, kreskin

    First they did the “rendition” to people in other countries.

    Then they did it to people who were in america just passing through.

    Next they will do it(or are doing it) to american citizens, in their american cities.

    Get your sh1t together confused 13

    @15

    I don’t believe my post passed judgement positively or negatively on torturing people. I merely stated that Geneva Convention accords aren’t binding to private citizens. I can see where you’re coming from, and agree it’s a scary situation and trend. That said, the Geneva convention is still irrelevant to the situation.

    hey, the term illegal combatants whas invented by the U.S goverment,.. just a bad excuse to toture people at prison with no reason or trial

    , even state like Israel like to prosecuted Palestinian before sending them to prison… ya know at least som fair reason to call them “terrorist”
