VoMiT with the DVDRip of a great looking doco called “The Betrayal” (AKA Nerakhoon). The documentary was shot over the course of 23 years, Thavi narrates his own story as a child surviving the Vietnam war and loss of his father and then as a young man struggling to overcome the hardships of immigrant life, an experience shared with his mother in war. This doco has received very good reviews from most review sites so looks like it could be worth checking out.

THE BETRAYAL (NERAKHOON) is the epic story of a family forced to emigrate from Laos after the chaos of the secret air war waged by the U.S. during the Vietnam War. Kuras has spent the last 23 years chronicling the family’s extraordinary journey in this deeply personal, poetic, and emotional film.

During the Vietnam War, the United States government clandestinely operated in the neighboring country of Laos recruiting Laotians for CIA-backed missions. When the U.S. withdrew, the new Communist regime sought vengeance. Thousands were imprisoned or killed. One family, the Phrasavaths, made the courageous decision to escape to America.

    You can't betray a traitor.
    This family sold out the community that nurtured them to the amerikan empire for a few measly dollars and it was that small minority of Laotians that caused the society to tear apart.
    Laos is one of the most amazing countries I have ever visited. I mis-spent a good part of my youth there in the 60's and 70's and witnessed up close exactly how evil the amerikan empire is when it decides to help itself to something it wants.
