The Beatles Anthology 1995 DVDRip XviD-TVA

This was released around five days ago, but reached SCC today. This series is a documentary on the life and times of the Beatles. It features clips from many of their songs as well as in-depth descriptions of their songs, tours, and lives. I know many of us here are big Beatles fans. TVA releases all 8 DVDRips for the series! Please read NFO regarding the quality of the DVD.

Initially broadcast as a TV miniseries to go with the series of three Anthology double-CD albums, this set of eight documentary tapes has the heft and scope of one of Ken Burns’s expansive projects. Still, unless you are either a historian or a truly committed fan, you’ll find yourself with way more material–particularly about the Beatles’ early lives as lads in Liverpool–than you’ll want to watch. The documentary material is copious, including early performance films and tapes, at the point before they found their true voices. The actual Beatlemania years–beginning in 1963 and concluding in 1970–feature extensive performance films, as well as home movies and archival material. The best parts, of course, are the interviews with the Beatles themselves, who produced the entire thing. Along with reworking two previously unreleased John Lennon tracks as “new Beatles songs,” the Anthology includes some unseen Lennon interview tapes so that his acerbic voice can be heard as well. This stands as a comprehensive document of that heady period, the second coming of rock & roll, as the Beatles took what Elvis had started and expanded upon it exponentially. The tapes give a solid sense of the historical context and the way these four musicians changed the world around them in the 1960s.

To be honest, this is a really good series of documentaries, if a little geeky. It plays as almost a textbook case of why a band forms, its growth, and the reasons behind its eventual demise. And because the band is The Beatles, you see this cycle of events acted out on the biggest stage possible. Good stuff!

i think its funny when people bash the beatles and then say "trance is better" or "hip hop is better" or whatever — the beatles were playing "hip hop" drum beats and using "trance" like samples WAY before any artist you could mention — Listen to the white album

Don't people realize that the Beatles had more than the 10 songs that you hear in every commercial

    March 27th, 2009 | 16:25

ANYONE who says one form of music is better then another is a blithering idiot and should not be allowed close to a computer for fear of contaminating it with their ignorance.
If you restrict yourself to one form of music you will miss out BIG TIME. I mean you have the classic soul stirring renditions of the 5th of Bethoven as well as Blue Danube-The Nutcracker Suite-Mad Mountain King-Jesu, the joy of Man's awakening for the classics. The mastery of the guitar and a person who is so good that he can STILL play faster and better then any other axe master out there today…Chet Atkins. A person who is based mostly in country. The most outstanding left handed guitar player ever…one Jimi Hendrix. The absloute astounding playing of Keith Moon on the drums for the original "Who" rock band. Even though he only had two arms, he played and sounded like he was using six or eight. The drummer for RUSH from Canada who can do things on a drum that makes your jaw drop. The drummer for Iron Maiden in "Run To The Hills". The soothing and golden tones of Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline, as well as Celine Dion and Whitney Houston-The Runaways-Lita Ford. The cool tones of Bones Thugs and Harmony in "Crossroads" or Coulio in "Gangsters paradise". The amazing energy of Meatloaf or the trance like playing of the music of "ja-make-a mon" music. And dont forget the foot tapping sounds of the big band era. If you restrict yourself to just one form of music, then you are and should be pitied as you are missing out on a whole new world of sounds and music. I personally cannot stand rap, but even in that there are some forms of rap that I will listen to and enjoy very much. Please dont restrict yourself, you really dont know what you may be missing.

Important thing to remember about The Beatles is that they pretty much led the way. Mart said that theres much better out there – maybe – but the thing to remember is that the Beatles were the first real group to hit the heights they did, half their songs that people love now (ie. The Long and Winding Road) weren't even released as singles, they were album tracks.

It is never surprising to find the people that hate on The Beatles can only name the likes of 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' or 'She Loves You'. Whilst those are virtually perfect simple pop songs and undeserving of hate anyway, they clearly don't have a clue why The Beatles are so famous and haven't listened to their seminal records or anything after 'Help'. Get an f'ing clue. They covered and perfected so many genres and set a billion trends inspiring virtually every modern musician and genre on the planet.

    Re: mart,
I don't think you can claim music was awful in the 60s, it was the time of Dylan, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Elvis not to mention the likes of Phil Spector and the Beach Boys.

As for the Stones being better, again your opinion but I thought their Forty Licks album had only about ten decent songs- poor considering the Beatles work is really based over 8 years while the Stones have been touring for about 44 years now.

Finally, as for Thomas the tank engine – Ringo was never the brains of the operation!!!! :)

  33. mart
    March 27th, 2009 | 21:40

bob dylan sucked big time. elvis never wrote a single song for himself as for the eagles now they were good quite like some of the stuff phil spector produced i guess you could say we are all different and like different music and as for the stones ten good songs is better than f**k all them mop haired scouse losers ever did
