The B-52s - Funplex (2008)
Here’s a new album Funplex from an American rock band B-52s, released by group YSP.
16 years between albums is a gap virtually unprecedented in modern music, so no surprises that the first question you want to know about Funplex is: how does it sound? Going on the opening track “Pump”, you’d be forgiven for thinking not at all: there’s Fred Schneider’s delirious, delightfully unselfconscious shout, there’s Kate and Cindy whooping like dropout cheerleaders, there’s the enjoyably garish mish-mash of early rock’n'roll, B-movie kitsch and surfboard funk that’s been the group’s stock in trade since their emergence in the new-wave boom of the mid-’70s.
Deeper into Funplex, though, there’s evidence of a new electronic edge, which can be owed in part to the input of producer Steve Osbourne, who’s previously worked with New Order and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. At times, the presence of dance beats, echoing effects, and pulsing synthesiser make Funplex feel a little clinically handled, like a B-52s remix. But it’s worth admission just for the glorious title track, a chaotic cops’n'hippies dust-up at the mall, and the mighty “Ultraviolet”. “Keep doing what we’re doing cos we’re doing it right!” shouts Fred. “Four miles to a breakdown!” shout Kate and Cindy. 16 years on, the party’s still going.

erm… come in number 10 your time is up…
Ive just listened to it, and theres nothing ‘fresh’ about it. Bland fits better.
its just a shame that RLSlog cant hire someone that can bring us some real cutting edge music instead of this ‘here today-gone tommorow-’ chart music.
The B-52s -
were sh!t to start with, and only made the smell worse by stepping in it again.

B52 lets rock to the 80’s.
I’m gonna go to the loooove shack…
That red head was hot once upon a time. My word look at that blond she went from ugly to atrocious and I bet she has a penis now too.
could i have the shocked smiley for number 18’s comment pls staff?
Yeah the blonds aged abit, the red head looks good for her age, especcially with the heavy amount of photo manipulation that musta gone into that album cover :P.
FAR OUT!
they look like old farts these days. good goings, still sexier than drugged out, psyched out Britney Spears.
I agree with #5
The blonde’s hit the wall with a crashing thud. The redhead doesn’t look much better. The lead singer still like a decrepit raving queen.
Even ancient they probably produce better music than 90% of all pop music’s losers. They deserve another chance.
@ The Original Geek:
true…but its a poor show when you have to drag out stuff like that though….
what Is up though, theres tons of unsigned artists out there that could blow us all away, yet they Never get the chance…dont they make enough profit? or is it just that like drugs -we cant be trusted to expand our minds a little.
f*ck off and die @ st5eveo and the rest - styless dixx is what u r with absolutely no understanding of what’s song writing, music production ,styling, presentation and the best party band ever : the B52s . This record proves they can still do it better than 90% of the rest of them pop a$sh0les as said. Clean your ears mor0ns
Oh and @ the original geek : tell that to the Rolling Stones lol - and its not “like drugs” . It is drugs .
and perhaps you take to much of those drugs tasc, because your obviously too easily pleased…
i tell you what… i go get u some hannah montanna or high school musical tracks and we can sit out in the sun and play patty-cake
When I seen these photos as amo, I just knew there was gonna be some funny banter going on here. Keep it up guys it’s quite entertaining
i’m quite amused to u u guys i must admit - its so entertaining 4 me as 4 u i guess - err… patty cake,drugz and rock’n'roll ? lol
the looooveee shack is that lil ol place we get to getha!!
hahah yea yea
i’m quite amused to u u guys i must admit - its so entertaining 4 me as 4 u i guess
@oz brute: panter u mean ? hehe - why dont u asses get a life - have some sex lol - yes theyre old but their trax still have it .i ‘m sick and tired of all u mo)ons criticizin who is old ,who is too young, who is ugly, whos fat when its clear most of u (u know who u r ) are all of the above and ur only life is within this f*kin screen ur lookin at now.
Blah blah blah
err… patty cake,drugz and rock’n'roll
and to any1 interested :http://www.theb52s.com/bio.html
im imagining tasc tottering around unsteadily in his mums best high heels, with badly done makeup and the b52’s new steamer Playing in the background….
Im a preddy gurl….lol
no seriously its plain to see that you need to get hold of some acid or something, cos if you carry on hurting your mind with music like this then its a life of transvestisum for you.
It’d be better if they put rock lobster on this album
Yeeaahh! The heroes of my spoilt youth are back!
i have to say i only clicked on the comments because i thought they;d be funny, definatly worth the read. cant say ive ever seen the word “transvestisum”, is it a real word?
i’d almost rather listen to hansen(on?) than this crap
a bunch of m0r0nic kidz lol - blah blah with no excuse - anonymity may letcha say anythin u like and thats where u hide behind … like the steveo nick lol - hey your m8 Jacka$$ forgot to leave a comment too.
Yeah, because nobody would dare say anything disparaging about the B52s if not for the safety of anonymity! Those cowards. And sorry tasc, but the irony of someone trying to call out a moronic kid and spelling the phrase “m0r0nic kidz” is too funny.
anybody have “faith hill - Hits” torrent at 320 or flac?

N.E.R.D. - In Search Of… [2002]
Album Cover:
http://img519.imageshack.us/img519/3698/nerdinsearchofkf4.jpg
N.E.R.D. are nothing if they’re not clever, and they brilliantly constructed a back-story to accompany their debut album, In Search Of… As every rock critic in the Western world has said in his review of the album, they originally released the record in Europe, then decided it was crap, withdrew it, re-recorded it with a live band, and then released it worldwide. Now this story is probably true — as the first album by the band driven by the powerhouse production team the Neptunes (though these are not interchangeable terms, as they went to great lengths to make clear in the promo interviews), there was a lot riding on this record, so it had better be right — but it certainly helped them get valuable press, elevating this record to a near-event level.
So, is In Search Of… worth the hoopla? Well, pretty much. Musically, it’s a lively affair, breaking free of the signature approximated-Prince beats, as they borrow heavily from classic soul, breakbeat aesthetics, and postmodern alt-culture, tying it together with live beats. It pretty much deliberately does everything that most modern rap does not do, and it’s hard not to embrace it for that very fact. Alas, there are flaws, mainly in the raps, which are hardly as nimble as the music; actually, they’re rather clumsy and embarrassing, especially since they attempt to cover “socially relevant” issues (i.e., politicians are equated with strippers).
Choruses that croon that “She needs me/Because I’m the sh*t” are hard to stomach, no matter how supple the music is (or how ironic the delivery), but if you can ignore that, In Search Of… does provide genuine musical thrills. Although, be forewarned — it’s easy to overrate this record simply because it deviates from the norm at a time when nobody deviates from the norm or has deviated from the norm in years. With better lyrics and a little less smirking hipsterism, it could have been the record it was intended to be, but as it stands, it’s still a pretty terrific listen and one of the most adventurous, intriguing hip-hop albums in a long, long time. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

@dave - no offense taken dude - the weird spelling came up because my script would not get accepted 3 times in a row and i couldn’t decide whats wrong with it so i spelled anything that might get banned with alternate spelling and it finally appeared.

Well, why don’t you spend your time informing us of all this “cutting edge music” you say is out there, steveo, instead of spending all of your time whining that everything sucks. At least let us all know what you think is worth listening to, iyo.
