The Andromeda Strain 2008 Part2 READNFO WS PDTV XviD-FoV

Group FoV released a second of part of a sci-fi TV movie The Andromeda Strain, a remake of 1971 Crichton’s original. The first part aired a week ago and was released by the same group. The READNFO tag in the release name points out the fact this release contains several image glitches caused by errors in transmission during the rip, but it’s nothing major (sample).

A U.S. satellite crash-lands near a small town in Utah, unleashing a deadly plague that kills virtually everyone except two survivors, who may provide clues to immunizing the population. As the military attempts to quarantine the area, a team of highly specialized scientists is assembled to find a cure and stop the spread of the alien pathogen, code-named Andromeda.

It’s in 2 parts. Each part is 1 hour 30 mins. And yeah, it’s pretty good, based on the first half. Hopefully the second half is just as good.

I’ve been waiting to check this adaptation out but now I hear it’s that bad that it’s not really worth watching.

@jovanni: It’s offcause entirely up to you, but my usual strategy with remakes is to see the remake first and then the original. The reason is that if I see the original first I am often dissapointed with the new one, where I with the remake first admire the original for the ideas and diffrent ways of showing the same with less ressources.
Starting with the originsl ruined War of the Worlds and Pearl Harbor for me, as the remakes seemed like bad copys.

I’m looking forward to part two, allthough part one had a little to many film clichees for me.

This remake isn’t a patch on the original, unfortunately. The second part in particular is just ludicrously overblown and involves some hilarious nonsense with a thumb and bizarre stuff about wormholes and time-travel, and characters who just wander in and out of the story randomly.

Somehow they managed to completely miss what made the original so gripping. Do yourself a favour and skip this one.

I was a kid when I saw the original for the first time and became one of the few to be indelibly printed in my memory. This was a very different ’sci-fi’ movie from the ones made today that are all about visuals and nothing about story. Back then these guys sure knew how to tell a good story in spite of limited technology. Coincidence or not the director Robert Wise later made my still favorite Star Trek movie, the first one, also with a great story.
