The 11th Hour LIMITED DVDRip XviD-iMBT

Well-known group iMBT, who hasn’t been overly active lately, is back with this interesting Documentary. This film, narrated by Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, Takes “A look at the state of the global environment including visionary and practical solutions for restoring the planet’s ecosystems.”. This should be a fascinating watch for some of the more conscientious people around here. Quality is very good, with MP3 audio.

Synopsis: Environmental documentary 11th HOUR resides at the polar opposite of escapist summer fare, its mission to firmly confront viewers about the indelible human footprint that humans have left on this planet, and the catastrophic effects of environmental neglect and abuse. Produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, and ably directed by Nadia Conners and Leila Conners Peterson, the documentary doesn’t get much fancier than talking heads, news footage, and the occasional animated illustration, but its message is potent and delivered effectively.

What the hell do you call the ICE Age(s) that occurred multiple times…#3 was correct in stating that global warming is nothing more than another cycle that has happened before and will happen again. Just because you have climate data for the past 100 years (recorded data, all before is speculation) then it doesn’t mean you can state with fact what happened in the millions of years before, no matter how high and mighty you think you are. Who’s ignorant now!?

    Increases in atmospheric C02 do not perfectly fit an increase in atmospheric temperature - it lags and peaks as temperature falls. Our atmosphere peaked in temperature in 1998 and has been receding ever since. Put that in your pipe, and smoke it.

    just because it’s called global warming doesn’t mean it only pertains to hot weather. Why is that when an idea like this is talked about, right wing, american flag pin wearing, o’reilly lovers forget to read between the lines. Everything becomes literal and they can’t see anything past the obvious. It’s about a climate shift. Sure the earth has recovered from far worse things, but the earth has never faced constant burning of fossil fuels or fumes and gases released from the manufacturing of plastics. It’s childish to compare our usage of natural resources to a volcano erupting. While i may not fully believe the ideas presented here, it goes without saying that no one can fully understand the damage we ARE or AREN’T doing to the planet.

    Just thought I’d state that as a leftist european who’s been actively following the scientific research surrounding global climate change over the last 10 years, I have become ever more convinced that the trend is natural(as most geologists will tell you), and that there are grave issues which are being ignored with the theory of how co2 effects the climate. Much what we are told is based on computer models which do not account for all of the variables, one of the most important of which is solar cycles and their effect on cloudforming. A model is only as good as the data put into it, and in this case the data leaves much to be hoped for. Recent revelations have shown that the IPCC dismissal of the Urban Heat Island effect on measurements of global temperature was not only too hasty but perhaps even blatantly incorrect. If the UHI-effect is indeed not accounted for in surface temperature measurements then our whole scale of global warming may infact be quite incorrect. This seems quite plausible, especially as satellite and weather balloon measurements have been showing a far lesser increase in global temperatures then the surface record.

    No, they don’t fit “perfectly” - whatever that means. But I find it difficult to believe that someone could be that ignorant to not have the minimum common sense to see that there’s a correlation. You may also want to look at the stats again and see that every time, EVERY TIME, there’s a peak in CO2 levels, there’s also a peak in temp or at least a dent in the decrease of it.

    Regarding your other comment on temp peaking in 1998… here’s a clue: according to facts (as opposed to magical elf fairy tails that you might be more familiar with) it took roughly 100000-150000 years for CORELATED CO2 levels and temp to get from a peak to a low.
    Now let’s see… we’re in 2008 (well, most of us, you may as well still think it’s the dark ages) which means 10 years have passed from your peak. Compare that to the scale we’re talking about here and try to realize that temp going down for 10 years means diddley squat when CO2 levels are twice as high as anything the earth has ever seen and going UP.

    @55

    Thanks - I just took my meds.
    The two variable do not correlate! It was even shown in Al Gore’s movie from the ice cores of Antarctica. CO2 increases lags years behind maximal temperatures, and then subsides. In 50 years, we’ll probably be back to the “new ice age” scare.

    It is impossible to truly test the hypothesis that anthropogeni climate change is responsible for meager chances in atmospheric temperature; there is no control world without man. The polar ice caps on Mars appear to be receding too. Unless Martians are driving hummers and barbecuing every night, it draws into serious consideration the role of man and CO2 in climate change.

    Climate is dynamic and CHANGES! I have no clue why the global warming crowd thinks it’s static and that normal temperatures should be the same from decade to decade and so forth. Ice melts and grows - please familiarize yourself with the concept that arctic ice sheet was nearly gone in 1922. What were the CO2 levels then? Not as high as now - what say you about this conundrum?

    http://wattsupwiththat.wordpress.com/2008/03/16/you-ask-i-provide-november-2nd-1922-arctic-ocean-getting-warm-seals-vanish-and-icebergs-melt/

    It is possible that we don’t really have a clue what is driving climate change, or that it’s a complex cycle of solar, man, sea and other factors.

    You might want to speak to the Carnegie Institute in Washington D.C. about that, since back in 2003 they were using a method of testing fossils which gave them an accurate analysis (include CO2 levels) of the atmosphere over a billion years ago. Keep up on your science? :) ::chuckle::

    I said 100,000-150,000 - you may want to pay more attention if you wanna keep up with the discussions. Regarding the scientists knowing stuff, you may be surprised: for example CO2 levels are measured from air bubbles trapped in ice caps for thousands on years, look it up.

    @61

    I think everyone understands now that climate is dynamic, prone to change and depends on several factors - thanks for enlightening us.
    CO2 is one of the factors since it traps heat from whatever the solar cycle is, that heat in turn goes into the sea which is no longer able to retain CO2, which further heats things up, which leads to ice caps melting, and so on. Seems these events would be aggravated by the extra CO2, wouldn’t you agree? … I guess you wouldn’t :)

    CO2 is one of a cohort of “greenhouse” gasses. Water vapor traps considerable more heat than C02. We just don’t know what CO2 is doing because we can’t control for it in experiments. If warming is caused by an increase in atmospheric C02, wouldn’t more CO2 cause the world’s trees and vegetation to flourish. The result might end up in scavenge C02 from the are and producing more O2?

    Don’t forget that other planets of our solar system are currently undergoing ‘global warming’; (Mars’ ice caps are melting at a record rate, Jupiter, Neptune’s moon Triton, even Pluto etc.) Do are carbon emissions somehow correspond to the temperatures of other planets? Studies have shown that the sun has in fact gotten brighter, emitting more radiation, in the last 100 years.
    Just about all the info you need on this subject and more can be found here:

    But what about the children, won’t please someone think about the children?

    Please if I’m against the whole neoliberal special-interest environmental trend label me ignorant. It’s probably cyclical (last time I checked we were on the way out of an ice age) but there’s no doubt the world CO2 amounts are being increased by the booming markets of China and India.

    One solution is the development of reliable/ useful (average-priced) products that we energy reduction. Those sh!!tty lightbulbs aren’t the alternative. You think middle america is going to dispose of them properly? Not a chance. they end up in the trash and millions will end up in lanfills and our drinking water.

    Hey, who said this is about climate change? “… the catastrophic effects of environmental neglect and abuse.”

    Would you dump toxic waste in your back yard or garden?

    Just forget about which side of the debate you are on for a moment. There is a simple equation and logic to decide what we should do about our back garden/our planet:

    1. Do nothing and see what happens = we could all die or nothing happens = 50% chance of survival

    2. Do something to reduce pollution = we survive or nothing happens = almost 100% chance of survival.

    No it doesn’t take into account other variables like viruses or giant meteors, but you get the point I hope.

    Many of you people are so freaking stupid it hurts my head to wonder how you even manage to survive, feed yourselves, bathe yourselves, etc. I can’t believe the ignorance that exists among you “free thinkers” who could actually buy into the crap notion that humans are not the cause of Global Climate Change and that there is nothing we can do to effect it.

    YES, the Earth does have natural cooling and warming cycles, BUT humans, plants and animals have survived on Earth for thousands of years together without destroying it- without the CRAZY extreme weather we have been having due to climate change. (Look at the Tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, Massive floods, Earthquakes, Snow tornadoes- I mean WTF, this freak weather is becoming the norm and will get worse, surely that is enough to wake you people up and open your eyes?)

    Think about the tonnes of carbon we are putting into the atmosphere every day that only started happening about a hundred years ago with the industrial revolution, we are speeding up these natural cycles by filling the Earth with crap and ruining the delicate balance that exists.

    The reason animal gas is having an effect is because farts produce methane and stupid Fast food companies like McDonald’s are clearing out rain forest (which we NEED to filter the carbon OUT of the air) and filling them with cows further than the eye can see because people won’t give up their 99 cent fatso hamburgers.

    Why would you want to risk it for yourselves and your children? I hope you are happy when the largest mass extinction of animal life happens in about 4 years, the seasons no longer exist, your kids are dead because the BOXES they are living in on the street aren’t warm enough to protect them from the crazy weather because you were too dumb to stop driving your car ten feet to the store and too mindless to give up your junk food.
