I totally agree with this survey. I have personally walked into quite a few trash cans and even a park bench once while I was texting. The bench really messed up my knee.

Mobile lanes would be a great idea, and probably wouldn’t cost more than a few million at most. Definitely worth the injuries they would prevent.

And it is easy to say wait until you are in an area that is free from obstacles to text, but sometimes you don’t know when and where you will get a text message.

“Mobile lanes?” How about… stop where you are, write the damn text message, send, then go about your life!

The fact of the matter is, mobile phones and mp3 players DO distract you from your surroundings. I only use mp3 on a train or bus or sitting down or whatever, NEVER when I am crossing streets or railways… people have been run over because of Mobile/mp3 distraction.

I’m sure the americans will make up some illness to justify this type of behaviour like “MDA” (Mobile Device Addiction), which in Europe will just be called “Stupidity” as usual.
