A platoon of Americans against. basically, an entire city. I think they did pretty well considering. Of course the operation could have been handled much better from the upper ranks.

#11: They were outnumbered and outplayed. If I remember, the conflict had a ratio of 1 US troop to 1000 Somalis. It was supposed to be a covert operation, but something messed up between the Delta and Rangers.

In spite of the mistakes, the US had a very high kill ratio. They got evacuated because there weren’t enough forces at the time. The US re-inserted with more troops later and regained control. Troop surge strategy has proved effective in Iraq too (from a warfare point of view, but not politically).

Why is this being released as a new game? It came out in Q4 2005! WTF! I don’t get it! Why would anyone want to waste their time on this when COD4, MOH Airborne and a few other good shooters released more recently are out? TiNYiSO disappoints me big time.

    @ 8

wow you are an idiot. There were 160 UN soldiers vs 6000 somali fighters, and we only had 19 killed vs. 1000+ somali deaths. We actually kicked their asses percentage wise. And “running home” is what we were trying to do, get our men who had been shot down and get the hell out was the whole point of the mission you stupid moron.

Thanks for the UploadJockey links, they save me the hassle of disconnecting to get a new IP to keep downloading from RS. And some of the other one-click sites seem decent enough.

Just thought I’d say this, since there have been pointless complaints about it. :)

And regarding this game: yay! I have an average computer, I don’t have tons of GB of RAM and video to play the excessive games. That and my connection is rather slow. So, thanks!

    http://www.city-interactive.com/en/opisy-pelne-en/terrorist-takedown-conflict-in-mogadishu.html

This IS an old game! If you don’t believe the date, then look no further than the sysreq. I have a machine spec’d like that I use as a huge paperweight…about all it’s good for these days.

Releasing this kind of crap reminds of the how the movie scene is regurgitating old classics like Get Smart since no one in Hollywood seems to have an original thought left in their head.

Thank you for sharing, thank you for taking the time, and thank you for providing things like Uploadjockey, and torrents when available.

DJS – well said. I agree with your take. My basic beef is that this site is supposed to be for the lastest and greatest releases – not so much the older stuff like with this one. There are still plenty of games I can’t play and my machine is average at best. It’s an exercise in futility to try and keep up with technology – not to mention quite costly! I wish the game producers would stop forcing us all to upgrade our video cards and such by always staying on the bleeding edge of technology. I just got a DirectX10 compatible video card. How long before I’m yanking that thing out of my PC cursing cause ti won’t run the latest releases?

These guys live in third world countries… Guerilla warfare has never been one of the US military’s high achievements (except on the receiving-end, f.e. Vietnam).

Death from above (the cowardly but smart way) is what America is known for.

Bush always said he would never use diplomacy to deal with terrorists or the “axis of evil”…But when north korea starts dismantlement of its nuclear program due to “discussions with” world powers.

Bush says its a good start..
Iraq never had any WMD’S…North Korea openly admitted they had developed one and would test it, they were both in Bush’s “axis of evil”.

    Who is a bigger threat..

North Korea has no oil….do the math..

    22:

Actually, the main reason the military seems to have gained control is they’re paying both sides to not fight. It’s not the troop surge, or some new military strategy. So what are those people doing with all that money that the US is giving them? Who knows. How do they know that money isn’t going to go back into terrorist hands? It’s unknown too. What we all do know is as soon as the US stops paying them they’ll start fighting again.
This lull was a political measure for Bush and Co so save face.

No, what it really means is at three years old you didn’t really know a damn thing that was happening at the time and being that young you certainly don’t remember it from personal experience. The real truth is that a huge mob of Somali thugs attacked the U.N. troops. Those Somalis who were killed were far from innocent. They had plenty of blood on their hands from dragging the dead U.N. soldiers through the streets.

  74. Dante
    June 28th, 2008 | 18:10

@11, could you be any more uninformed? They were US soliders, not UN. The US went in with it’s own operation after expressing frustration at the UN’s peacekeeping efforts. The Red Cross estimated 200 civilians were killed during that botched operation alone. Somalians turned against the US when they sent gunships to wipe out their clan elders (Somalian equivalent of a cabinet), who ironically were there to discuss ways to achieve peace and resolve the famine.

    June 30th, 2008 | 02:39

Let me guess… You play as the Americans killing Africans, or Muslims or Arabics, as usual? As a counter to this never-ending stream of trash I recommend ignoring this and getting a PC game called ‘JFK Reloaded’ It is only a small dwnld (30 meg. or so), and is way more interesting, since you can actually replicate the real bullet-physics and test alot more things out. (You can actually try to replicate the ‘Magic Bullet’ scenario which caused 7 internal injuries. Yes, it is all there… You breathe slowly as the scope wobbles causing minor iterations, the output & feedback is very similar to a PSG1-silenced with ‘12 shells. I wanna see more games with main roles as other races protecting their homelands from the invading USA or UK troops (quite a disease, aren’t they? Invading, taking over all valuable resources, sabotaging & tainting everything, not much different from the Nazis.)

PS – And Diablo III looks nothing special except a witch-doctor class, a barbarian as usual and minor Warcraft III-improved graphic engine, It also gives a selection of male or female of the class chosen by the user. The storyline is, Deckard Cain went somewhere,
and gone missing, you have to find him. Exciting? Same never-changing
cliche just to reel-in more $… (I ain’t suprised at all, and was expecting much better from someone like Blizzard, but oh well, they took the drop-down like all the other companies.)
