Hi all,
I am the author of Terrorhedron. I quit my job mid 2011 to become an indie game developer and have no other source of income except for the sales from this game.
This isn’t like downloading Modern Warfare 3 or Skyrim where it is a large and secure publisher who is losing out, I am a single person team and won’t be able to carry on making games.
I understand piracy exists but I’d ask all to consider getting a legit copy, it is only $10. http://www.mcro.org
Best wishes,
Dan
Hello Dan,
Im using this site because it serves me perfectly for information purposes about game releases.
Once I like some game here, I go check if it has Demo. If it doesn’t, Im forced to downloaded pirated version, just to see if it’s running on my old computer.
And look, your game actually is not running on my computer. If I just headlessly went and spent 10 dollars to buy it, I would be pissed.
Anyway, I wish you good luck, there is never enough indie developers who let their dreams come true and add a bit of their own personality into the game.
I forgot to add that my computer actually exceeds minimum requirements. Problem with minimum requirements is that MOST software developers, including you, only post frequency of CPU needed. In my case it is Athlon XP 3000+, which is 2.17 Ghz, but it doesn’t support SSE2 instructions. Sure, I can’t blame you, who is using this old CPU these days… But I’m not gamer. I like to play games, but I never needed stunning visuals to be able to enjoy the game. I mostly use Excel, email and Skype for work, and that’s about it.
This is reason why I actually download games first. I bet it is same problem with your game, as it just says that it needs to terminate, without saying any error. I have already encountered this few times. Maybe you just used library that needs SSE2, who knows. Could be similar to my issue with Bordelands. Some guy came with fixed .dll, I downloaded few KBs and bam – it was running nice and smooth so I could spend my money to actually buy it. Same with Photoshop also, later they released fix for non SSE2 CPUs. Note that I never bought Photoshop, only tried trial.
Moral of story: I’m sorry to say, but I will always have to download your games first, from reason above. Hope you understand.
Dan MCRO,
If you are indeed the developer of this game (and all signs seem to indicate such), then I’m quite thrilled with the fact that you are posting on a site that promotes your game and makes it easier for people to play it. You should be commended on your efforts to branch out on your own, but with that I feel the need to offer some advice. As you are well aware, gaming technology and production is a continually growing market; and with that growth comes an ever increasing amount of competition for the money people are willing to pay for quality games.
I don’t know your circumstances or your ultimate goals and designs, but when I download this game and play it, I will be directly aware of what you can produce. Many people are the same way. Quite often, it takes a handful of smaller products that are made available to the public in order to generate a continuing interest; and what generates more interest than the word “free”? Once a continued interest in a manufacturer is obtained, then comes the opportunity to start charging more (or at all) for the goods that are of higher quality and can be appreciated enough so that people are willing to pay first, even before getting a chance to use the product. Remember Freeware? Quite a few large-scale companies found their beginnings in similar situations. Those very same companies also have the beta versions available to users so that the users, themselves, can be the product testers to ensure a much better product.
So, think of this as possibly an investment… a seed that you are planting in order for you to harvest the rewards at the end of the season. Stay strong in your attempts to create bigger and better games, and make them at least slightly available (if anything, with only introduction levels available for free). Also, always be willing to accept criticism from the users. They are, after all, the consumers you are trying to target. And who knows, maybe you’ll come across an opportunity to work with the aid of other large companies that wish to take advantage of your skills and who would also provide you with the autonomy you desire.
anyone know what password sinpriest uses? his link is the only one that works in the US…. odd that this release never really had any valid links!
