Teenager faces 38 years in jail for school hacks

Graduation time is near for most students at Tesoro High School in Orange County California. However, two students are facing the prospect of beginning a prison term rather than walking across the stage to receive their diplomas. One of the teens faces the possibility of 38 years in prison.The two teens, Omar Khan and Tanvir Singh, have been charged with multiple felony counts. Khan’s chargers are by far the most severe with a total of 69 felony counts pending against him including identity theft, second degree burglary, computer access and fraud, removing and secreting a public record and altering and falsifying a public record.

The charges stem from Khan’s attempt to hack into his teachers computer using a stolen password to change his low grades to A’s and B’s. Khan is also alleged to have tried to install spyware to allow him access to the schools secure network remotely. In addition to attempting to change his own grades, Khan is also accused of trying to change the grades of 12 other students. Khan was found out when he requested a school transcript in order to appeal a denial of admission to the University of California for the coming fall semester. An investigation was started after school administrators noticed discrepancies in Khan’s grades. That investigation resulted in the officials finding Khan had original tests, answers and copies of his altered grades.

    Why, oh why, do the media persist in labelling these moron’s hackers? They do not even understand what a hacker is, or what what hacking involves.

    This kid is a cracker, a phreak, a krypt skiddy… Summed up, a moron. The techniques used where probably mainly physical, eg watching a teacher type in a password. Could you honestly imagine this kid trying anything creative?

    And may I just point out “tried to install spyware”, he tried. Anyone that can’t infect a system they have physical, administrative access too does not deserver the title of krypt skiddy.

    That, gentlemen, is a douche.

    @31 Precisely. They just have human bodies, that’s all.
    Lumps of meat, cattle, sheeple is more of an appropriate
    term to discribe them, look at how the UK is the #1 surveilence state. There’s even cameras implented in garbage
    compactors, and ‘people’ get microchipped on a massive scale.
    I’m not gonna even get into it… Sublimal brainwashing,
    mass-propoganda, physical-mental-spiritual harassment,
    technology available which a brain-dead crack-head can
    operate with ease, less & less manual vehicles being produced (especially RWD, stick & clutch), food & drink & toiletries heavily riddled with poisons and heavy-duty
    cleaning chemicals. The sheeple live on the ’surface’ and
    serve as the ‘experiment’ while ‘below’ & ‘above’ the
    controllers reside, waiting patiently for the climax to
    emerge (which technically, is just around the corner)
    then, the take-over will assimilate. These sheeple don’t
    even deserve to be in human bodies. On all fours, covered
    with fur is far-more appropriate to them, but one thing
    worth remembering is that, they themselves, allowed it,
    instead of utilizing their true-potential and fighting
    back with all they’ve got. The DNA strand degenerated from
    12-strand vine to a single double helix as well in the
    long-ongoing process. And most of these american films
    as well as the brittish gangster cliche’s don’t help
    at all except a mass-bombardment of sex, obsessive violence,
    animalistic interaction between the characters, very negative subliminal messeges (which can be reversed & retimed to reveal their meaning), blood, christian & satanic
    imagery (why won’t this crap just perish once & for all).
    Enough of this… It should be plain-obvious. It helps
    to get away from M$ sh177y software and use Linux & Unix
    once in a while, utilizing the brains…

    How ridiculous. Trying to change your school grades? 38 years in prison. Invade a sovereign country which did nothing to you, killing millions of people - including thousands of your own countrymen - and raping it of resources? Gain millions of dollars in personal wealth. It’s great that justice works so well.

    if the kid was l33t, he wouldn’t have been caught in the first place. Should of deleted logs, used an encrypted connection as well
    as go behind 3+ proxies (which allow 20+ meg. worth of storage capacity no less, for document work) I remember when Half-Life 2
    leaked out. (Their servers were compomised from a guy on a train
    (constantly moving) with a notebook. He leaked the thing (10 GIGS+) out along with CS Condition Zero (the rare single-player one, which was scrapped by Valve) not the online one everyone knows of. But 35+ years for attempting to change records? If I were to spread a pathogen in a school-univercity (indoctrination-zoo & propoganda outlet) I bet that I would get a less severe punishment. And what
    these schools teach isn’t a crime? Maybe only 8% of actual truth.
    The rest is all misinformation & disinformation respectively to create a mental entanglement of lies on the masses and what the history really is of whatever subject they lay their greasy hands on) I’m not surprised with US anymore these days, what I see now,
    is what I foresaw back around late 2002-2003. I know there are
    great beings there that have to suffer because they live within a brainwashed zoo and can’t do much about it because the majority
    of these cattle actually think that Bush is making a wonderful
    choise, and their country is the greatest. etc. etc. Enough now…

    I have gotten away with doing this stuff…back in hs, I had the u/n and p/w for every student, faculty, and administration account on the network. I finished school and got into a good college. The IT Admins left them in 3 unsecured batch files on the mail server…all it takes is some ingenuity and you are in! Remember kiddies…the network is only as strong as its weakest link…..
