Well, sometimes a fast/arcade space shooter is just what it takes to keep the kids on their box, and off my gaming beast. I am in.

This game is much better than Space Force Rogue Universe which was crap. I’m enjoying it tremendously.

Last I checked, the requirements for a game were not the deciding factor in how well it was programmed or how fun it is.

Now, back to Wing Commander: Privateer.

Space sims are a hard genre to tie down to a certain level of rating. A game can have so steep a learning curve that it is impossible for the average player to even hope to be competent at it without actual hours practice, but if it is a near-perfect simulation (at least accurate control and performance-wise) then you can not really say it was a bad simulator. The developer could be labeled as careless, but the final product was exactly what it was supposed to be.

Still, this is probably Ace Combat equivalent for space simulators, where inertia is not factored in for any more than a half second after cut throttle and you have something to the effect of a health bar, with no one hit kills versus the player in any but the most extreme of settings. Still might be worth a go, but without multiplayer this will likely fall behind at least X2 and X3, and then games like FreeSpace 2 and Starshatter will just outrun it for multiplayer support and physics build, respectively.

I’ve been waiting for this since playing the Russian demo about 4 months ago.

As said above, so what if it’s not a 6Gb monster with A-spec requirements. It looks nice, combat is fast & furious and allows you to feel a sense of achievement when you get a kill.

I’m not sure about all the features, such as the purported enhanced AI ability of your wingmen and ship development (as all audio, text and HUD icons were in Russian!).

But I will say I’ve not had this much fun since Independence War: Edge of Chaos and I fucking LOVED that game! :D

So try it first, then comment on it’s quality.

Still grabbing this game. Good or bad, there are not enough space sims out there and I would trust this to be at least as entertaining as Starlancer.

Thank the game makers another space game… finally I can stop playing freelancer online and play another space game. The last space game I played was X3 Reunion and that game is beautiful but has alot of bugs and spelling errors that they still need to fix. Its a good game though, I just wish they would slap multiplayer onto it and the game would be better. I am going to try this game.. I really really hope it rocks. We need more wing commander freelancer X3 type games. Come on.. lets kick some alien ass.

The only review I saw gives it 70%:

“Pros: A wide range of customization options; attractive environments.
Cons: Linear objective-based gameplay; a few small bugs; problems in communicating the plot; minor interface issues.

In the end, Tarr Chronicles would be an unremarkable space-shooter, except for the customization – there’s just enough incentive to give it a look. There’s no deep tactics or strategy, nor is there any mechanic that hasn’t been done before elsewhere, but the story is interesting enough to keep playing, and the gameplay is good enough that you’ll find yourself coming back for more. Though it may get frustrating at times and is a little slow paced, if you’re aching for a chance to fly through the galaxy in a personally-customized flying canister of destruction, Tarr Chronicles might be the game to satisfy the urge.”

    Aww mum!

Can’t I just stay up a little longer trolling Releaselog, cos I haven’t any friends or life to speak of and trolling/impersonating others online makes me feel important instead of the whiney little suckass i really am. If you let me stay up I promise to feed, muck out and blow the basement Gimp first thing tomorrow.

Also, when we go to see the tranny doctor, can he check my ass gape, cos I accidentally sat on a Friut Shoot earlier and I think I feel it tickling my right lung.

Can you come upstairs to tuck me in mumsypopsadoodle. The wardrobe monster keeps telling me ’shut the fuck up and grow a pair before someone hunts you down and melts you in an acid bath’ over and over all night. That wardrobe monster is a smart guy and realy knows what he’s talking about for sure! If only I wasn’t such a pathetic egotist with a brain capacity equal to the size of my dick swing, which since I get penis envy when I see a baby’s pinky, isn’t very big.

Well i fixed my initial problem, seemed like running dualscreen was the problem – it tried running the game on my tv

Now when I start it up and get past the looading screen some sounds (music and water running or something) appear for a brief periode and then the game stops responding.

Might be the crack that is fuxxed? anyone can confirm having this running without problem?

dont listen to the strogg man..
reinstall the game and click ok when asking to install/update DirectX (im guesing you clicked no?)

otherwice DX10 will just emulate DX9 and that is very very broken.. i think thats your problem ;)

otherwice its a grafix drivwer issue or a game bug, no game released today without atleast 1 major bug :D

Here’s my summary of playing this a while: It has confusing controls and confusing mission quests. They tell you to hold your position but where exactly? The game is kind of too dark, and I didn’t see any settings in the menu to let you make it lighter. You can do it from your video driver control panel though. The missions dont make sense. You cant really land to re-arm, so you run out of ammo missles quickly and have to stay with guns.

They game does lag some at the highest resolution for me 1440×1950.
