Tales of Monkey Island Episode 101 Launch of the Screaming Narwhal v1.0.0.15-TE

Woooooooohooooooo! Ive been waiting for this since it was first announced at E3 since i was a huge fan of the original Monkey Island games, I just hope they dont stuff this up. Tales of Monkey Island is an upcoming adventure game being developed by Telltale Games (Who was founded by a group of ex Lucas Arts employees to focus more on adventure style games) in collaboration with LucasArts. It takes place after an imaginary fifth game in the Monkey Island series. Players take control of Guybrush Threepwood who accidentally releases a voodoo pox that spreads throughout the Caribbean. He must save the Caribbean from this voodoo pox whilst at the same time rescue his love Elaine Marley from his nemesis LeChuck. The game will be episodic, with the adventure being split into 5 parts. From July 7th they will be released on a monthly basis.

Update: Sorry original HOTFILE link was corrupt, have reuploaded. Enjoy!

Aight I broke their chinese puzzle box… Extract the original, then extract ALL of the Rars from the 1000 series then extract the first rar from the 100 series and you are set! You have to extract all of the 1000 so you get all of the 100… Apparently the group wanted to make our brains work for us to play the game…

  34. Telltale suxors
    July 8th, 2009 | 08:11

Telltale turned a funny game in Sam and Max into a formulaic series with laboured attempts at lame humour and rehashed locations. Only some parts of those episodes were funny in the way that the old Lucasarts(Lucasfilm even in those days) games were.

I can't see that an episodic Monkey Island would be any different.

It would be better if they just made a proper coherent long game, not these half-arsed episodes.

How dare you downloading this game. It makes me really sad… TMI isn't made by LucasArts. Telltale gave LucasArts a lot of money, for the licence, and this is what you give in return. Untrustworthy fans.

You are aware that Telltale is a small company, which takes a huge risk by making this? They are dependent on the sales of the game. It doesn't cost much either, so why the f*ck pirate it? (I don't want to hear some lame jokes..) If it recieves poor sales, then there will be no Monkey Island or other adventure games from either LucasArts or Telltale, then YOU'RE to blaim.

If you really don't want this to happen, then order it.. Please. If you like it, please buy it.

    - Die hard Monkey Island fan.

Buy this game, it is classic being brought back to life and that just does not happen these days any more. This sort of thing needs support! I've pre-ordered it a while ago and will also be getting the "new-old" original very first Monkey Island. You should be doing the same.

come on peeps i use this site to download most things but stuff like TOMI should be bought and the publishers supported. hell i'll download any movie from one of the big boys with no qualms at all but stuff like this should be supported and paid for.

its only $35 (£23 ish) for gods sake. hardly breaking the bank and you get ALL 5 episodes and a DVD thrown in at the end of the run.

  60. funkster
    July 8th, 2009 | 11:50

    @ JimmyStewart

I am grateful that Monkey Island is back on the PC. Which is why I pre-ordered as soon as I heard it was coming out, even though I hate the control scheme and how badly Guybrush & Lechuck looks. Not pirating this game and supporting telltale doesn't necessarily mean more Monkey Island games. Perhaps this release in the scene will show to Monkey Island fans that don't know that a new MI game is out, and perhaps make new fans(if the game is good)

I wish people would quit the "piracy is killing games" BS. It is NOT. The people who buy, will buy. Those who won't, won't. It really is as simple as that.

The fact is the big majority of pirates would NOT buy the game the pirate anyway.

So… Here's the maths to make it simple!

Pirate copy = downloader gives $0 to PUBLISHERS*
No pirate copy = downloader wouldn't have bought it anyway so still $0 to publisher.

    Either way $0.

And digital copies cost nothing, except the cost of electricity used by the computer in the process, which is next to nothing. Proof? Copy and paste. Copy and paste. Do it 1000000 times. It costs no more than the first copy and paste.

    * By the way, developers get paid SALARIES by their company and given cash from the PUBLISHERS. So even if their game tanks they STILL walked away from it with money.

  74. Guybrush

Chuck, u are such an idiot.
"No pirate copy = downloader wouldn't have bought it anyway so still $0 to publisher." -> WRONG in just so many ways. maybe for some pple it is like that. But even if there were just a few buying it then, its good fot the company.

"By the way, developers get paid SALARIES by their company and given cash from the PUBLISHERS. So even if their game tanks they STILL walked away from it with money."

This actually shows how dumb u really are. Let me explain:
1.) The company puts money in creating the game
2.) Hires developer and probably has to get credit from a bank
3.) Developing the game costs money over the timer period it is developed
4.) And finally u moron, if the company does not get enough money of the sales they CANT AND WONT hire developer again

Prove me wrong u freak and if u cant, maybe u should just stop trying to think.

Sry for my language, but it had to said

So, people says telltale games are not that good as the lucas arts originals.

Also, if you liked this game (according to the first enunciate, you will not), you should not download it.

So, to give a lesson to telltale we should download AND play the game, and so they will start producing games as good as the originals that we should buy!

    I love my logic :)

It sucks!! Anyone can fork out for a big license, and this is just like all those spin offs of blockbuster movies that rely on the name to make a quick buck.

I was going to buy this if it was good, but I'm glad I saved my money. The graphics are bad…so bad that I can't understand how they did it. With all the shaders and effects available today, it should not look this bad. Most of the characters are based on the same 3d model. If that's not sloppy corner cutting I don't know what is.

The "gameplay" consists of left clicking, listening to lots of dialog and very little else.

On a positive note, the humour is great and very faithful to the original games, Guybrush's voice acting is awesome too, but this series would have been better off as an audiobook.

    @102 shane

you obviously have no idea about the genre known as adventure games. left clicking and listening (reading back in the day) to dialogue is pretty much 90% of 90% of every (true) adventure game ever made.

plus TOMI looks real nice in 1680×1050, dunno what game you're playing mate but TOMI looks fine and is actually much prettier than previous games ie Sam & Max, Strongbad & Wallace & Gromit.

I have to admit guys, this was great. I went in with very low expectations to be honest, Telltale are weak imho, but this is their best product yet! It also isn't as short as I had feared. Thought it would be like 2 hours, but was 4-5, which is decent (I solve adventure games pretty fast).

And talkin about solving, well the puzzles were straight forward. Mostly item based.

    Puzzles-Easy
    Lenght-Enough
Humor-good, not great, but there was one very VERY awesome moment. Make sure you interact with everything, and you too shall whitness it.

I will be buying this first thing tomorrow. They deserve the money, especially if they continue with adventure games.

–I am developing one as well with 3 mates, been 1 year already … Two more, and we can launch! :D

Real noobs. It's better to ignore all noobish and stupid questions and comments. If you guys don't know what you're blabbin' about, you just shut up 'cause it doesn't help you at all. Why don't you just quiet down and figure out how to extract these and other scene release. Kudos to all those involved in releasing these. Long live the scene!!!!

Firstly, Threepwood, it's nuck. Not chuck. But judging by your grammatical and spelling mistakes you probably have a hard time understanding english. For someone who takes Threepwood's name you sure across as a totally unfunny clown who needs to resort to insults in response to a perfectly reasonable insult-free original post of mine.

I stand by the logic. The fact is vast majority of downloaders have no intention of buying and never will, and since digital copies cost NOTHING then there is NO loss.

If you believe every download is a lost sale then you're using false logic and should try copy and pasting 10000 times. According to your logic you just cost 10000 more sales. Aha, right!

Secondly, I do know the relationships between publishers and developers. Since you don't, here's a breakdown

    http://videogames.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Video_Game_Developers_and_Publishers

"The publisher often provides the money for the cost of developing the game and has a larger stake in the profits of the title."

While not always true, it is often the case. The risk is primarily with the PUBLISHER. The developers still get paid. They MAY not get another contract in future if their game tanks but that's not down to piracy. It's down to the fact.. and I'll say this slowly because of your "learnding" disability… downloaders… don't… think… it… is… worth… buying…

    Yes, let it sink in… very… slowly…

Actually in a funny way you just showed that piracy is a GOOD thing. Just in case some of the downloaders DO buy the game after pirating it. That's more sales than they had WITHOUT piracy.

So, yeah, don't give up your day job. Whatever that is.

Well chuck, you are just a weird guy. Maybe i did not spell every word right and maybe my grammatic had some flaws but i really am funny.
I never said every DL is a lost sale, thats just what u interpreted. Just try and read it right. Sure your post was insult free but nevertheless not reasonable. Your next post wasnt either.
So i will just stop arguing with you wether developers should be supoorted or not. Just be who you are, ill bet everyone is fine with that as long as you leave them alone.
And again, i do not want to insult you. It just makes me sad that people knowing so little have to talk so much

I decided I will download and crack the first chapter of this only, a demo is all well and good sure, but I really need to get a good idea of if this will be as good as the orginals. If I like this first chapter I will then purchase this when it goes retail, <3 monkey island

    To nuck:

Telltale is both developer and publisher of this game, so whether you are hurting the publisher or the developer is a non-issue since they are one and the same.

Secondly, it still costs money to produce the game, rendering, paying programmers writers etc. the company still has money it needs to make back. The only difference between a digital release and a hard release is that the distributor (also Telltale) can sell for cheaper since they don't have to print the game on discs (though they do that for free for a lot off their games anyway). Telling people to buy the games is really for the younger crowd on here who might not understand the market mechanics that if they like something they should support it to encourage more of it in the future. they should realize that given the option to get a game for free, and then enjoy said game a lot, it is worth it to go back and purchase that game in order to signal the market to create more of it. The older, hopefully educated, denizens should know that, and can decide whether they will pay for it or not.

"I stand by the logic. The fact is vast majority of downloaders have no intention of buying and never will, and since digital copies cost NOTHING then there is NO loss."

Even by your optimistic logic, you are indeed admitting there is a percentage of players who do have an intention of buying this game and will not after cracking this version. That equates to a loss.

There is no way to calculate the number of people who were going to buy this, but then saw the pirated copy. Or the number of people who want to buy it, can't afford it right now, crack it and then later get the money but decide to spend it on something else because they've already played this for free. There's an infinite number of ways people who "intend" to buy the game might end up "forgetting" to do so after getting it for free. So while not all of the downlaods = losses, a good number of them do.

I think its funny that anti-piracy people post comments here, what purpose could someone who thinks that piracy is bad have to come to this website? what do you think you'll achieve, maybe less people will download it?

Chances are most piracy happens at torrent sites not here so you're wasting your breath go tell someone who cares, maybe the brick wall over there will be more sympathetic to your cause.

In any case, arguing about piracy here is as futile as arguing about fire in a burning building.

Move along people with more useful information rather than trolling for no good reason.

I guess you are right, just wasting my breath and my time. But the brick is not listening. Its not about piracy, it is about common ground rules in economics.

I did not say "don`t download, pirating is bad" neither did anon say that. But just saying "all Downloader would not buy the game anyway" was just wrong and chuck is stupid.

Well i really liked the metaphor of the burning house. Made me at least smile. Still, first read it right, then comment. Would save us both some time

hope there are still some guys reading this thread.
i downloaded the game, overwrote the exe file in the launch of the screaming narwhal folder. but then i can't get past the teltale screen…there no launch game button or sorts.
if i start the game with the original exe (after de and re installing) and plz wait while loading window pops up.
…so is the crack not working or do i need to do something different???
help or maybe a working crack would be awesome
    thx

If you like the game you should buy it. But I see no real issue with downloading the game and playing it. Not all of us want to spend $35 on one episode of an unfinished five part game. They aren't selling the single episodes yet either.

I will download and play the first one and if it's good and I like it I will buy the whole season.

Money is tight right now and $35, while reasonable for a whole season, is too much for the one single episode that I can actually play right now.
