Tale 52 2008 DVDRip XviD-ELiA

EliA brings us a DVDRip of the movie Tale 52. The spoken language in this film is Greek, and it is a Fantasy/Thriller/Drama. That is about all I know, couldn’t find much info on it. The NFO says there are English Subtitles, but looking through the folder, I am not seeing a SUB package, so unless they are hard subbed, not sure about that.

AKA: Istoria 52

Mutual friends bring Penelope (Serafita Grigoriadou) and Iasonas (Giorgos Kakanakis) together at a dinner party he’s hosting. Their relationship heats up by the end of the evening, and within a blink of an eye, she’s moving in. Practically from the start, however, there’s something wrong: Iasonas experiences events one moment and then reimagines them later in a different way. He says he doesn’t take pills, but then he’s seen with his medication; she says she forgot her toothbrush, but there it is in the bathroom. A current of barely suppressed violence runs through Iasonas’ thoughts, as he’s no longer able to distinguish between what’s happening now and what he’s reliving. As things go horribly awry with Penelope, he tries to rectify in the past what he knows will happen in the future, but it becomes impossible to distinguish reality from his crazed imaginings.

    Greece is not normally a place one associates with cutting edge film but there are signs that is beginning to change and Alexis Alexiou’s Tale 52 could very well be the film that leads the charge. Beautifully shot with what looks to be a perfectly cast leading man Alexiou’s film is the story of a man’s descent into a violent love and jealousy fueled madness.

    After meeting at a dinner with friends, Iasonas and Penelope start a relationship. One day when Iasonas wakes up, Penelope has disappeared, but he is unable to reconstruct what has happened…. The disappearance of his recently conquered girlfriend drives rather shy Iasonas to despair and evokes confusing delusions in his already fragile mental makeup. A psychological thriller without redemption, with an outspoken visual language.

    @7 / Proud American

    Have a look at:
    http://www.imdb.com/chart/top

    You may realize that many of the best movies ever are foreign.

    Also, you call yourself American. Are you Indian? Did the Europeans a few hundreds years ago found you there?
    No? You may be an invader then… Go find a history!

    @Proud American
    I guess you’ve never seen City of God or The Host? Just because it’s foreign doesn’t mean it’s bad.

    Please keep the foreign movies flowing! I’m looking forward to this one. Sounds cool.

  13. August 19th, 2008 | 00:29

    Some of the best movies I have ever seen have been Foreign, and I am from America. Actually, the movie Inside(the horror) was one of the goriest movies I have ever seen, and I loved it! lol

    I have seen many American movies that were great and I’m from Europe.
    There is always the good and the bad in everything.
    Good music and bad music, good movies and bad movies, NOT “my country” and foreign.

    Hey, I am greek and I enjoy both american and european movies. I even like asian movies [especially hong kong blood opera].

    However, I have yet to see a greek movie that I like. If somebody asked my for a greek movie to recommend to him, I wouldn’t be able to answer. However I do know of a couple turkish good movies such as G.O.R.A… I wish greeks would make better movies.
